Re: Copo for sale!!!
And what about the color change?...Olympic gold is a "un-common" color and I think would add value to this car unlike the "re-sale" it was painted during the "correct" 95 grand resto.

Re: Copo for sale!!!
a good friend of mine david triplet, is re-building the 427 for this car. he had told me the price the dealer was going to ask for the car when completed and i thought it was high also, with it having a color change and all.

Re: Copo for sale!!!
NOM and incorrect color. Seems a little high considering those facts. Nice documentation though so that might add value. I still can't believe the COPOs are reaching these levels. Not to nit pick, but those tires look a little big(too tall).

Re: Copo for sale!!!
Those wheels look like 8" Corvette Rally's

Re: Copo for sale!!!
Not that I'm in the market at that price... But that seems very pricey!!!!
For $170K the car really ought to be totally correct in every respect. Maybe these are pictures pre-final restoration, and many of the issues will be corrected? Nevertheless, I'll stick my neck out and say that NONE of the COPO Camaros at BJ later this month will touch mid $100's, much less $170K. JMHO. Blair |
Re: Copo for sale!!!
Resale Red, Baby! But: "AND CARRIES A FRESHLY REBUILT ORIG. '512' 427/425 MOTOR." They state the trans & rear are original, what are they saying about the engine? Orig or not? Appears o have great paper. Then: "IT HAS UNDERGONE A RECENT, FRAME-OFF RESTORATION AND IS COMPLETE W/ NEW RALLY WHEELS , AND X-33 CHROME PACKAGE (IF DESIRED**)." & "MOTOR CURRENTLY IN RESTORATION- EXPECTED COMPLETION JAN. '05." So, is the car done or not? And , I guess, you can still add options! Ok: "HEMMINGS MUSCLE MACHINES" STATES 822 MN-CODE 4-SPEEDS", "CAMARO Z28 AND PERFORMANCE SPECIALS" STATES: 1,015 (822 4-SPEEDS /193 AUTOMATICS)." We know that was the # of engines produced not the # of cars. By the way: "WATCH THESE 'GO TO THE MOON' AT THE BARRATT-JACKSON AUCTION. BUY IT THIS MONTH ONLY..$170,000. RE-PRICED AFTER THE AUCTION." Nothing like " soft sell " to get you to drop 170 large. Not to mention the typos, etc. Love these cars!

Re: Copo for sale!!!
This car has been for sale for some time. If it is from Berger, the wheels are 15x7 because it's a double COPO.
IT IS NOT the "only" single order Berger because my car, according to KurtS, is a single order car. My trim tag has been posted on this site, but the ad for this car does not give any info on that or the VIN. It sould be an X11D80, but what is "X33" Trim? If the car auctions for that much, there's a chance that I will refinance my house to do a complete frame off. I like driving it, but damm, that is a lot of $$$. Is there a chance that there was another batch of COPOs ordered that wasn't picked up on? Seems to be some dispute over whether Berger sold 40 or 50. Andy |
Re: Copo for sale!!!
See the last post on the Berger forum for details on my car.

Re: Copo for sale!!!
Andy, I was wondering why someone would say they can add a X-33 (Z/28) Trim to a COPO car as well. For better understanding of the "X" codes heres a link to CRG's site.

Re: Copo for sale!!!
Andy,
The gold Copo for sale is a base Copo not a 9737 optioned car; 14" wheels, M22, no radio, X44, March built car. It is the only base Copo ordered by Berger that has surfaced. The original owner Ben Wenzel called Berger in July '69 and wanted the cheapest Copo they had. Berger had 27 Copo Camaros on the lot at that time. This car had been ordered by Dick Ahrons/ Wally Booth for racing purposes but didn't come in in time so they built a 396 car instead. Ben said the car was never competative so he parked it with 50 or so miles on the disconnected odometer. The day 2 pictures were on this site a few years ago, red/orange stripes painted down the sides and top. It would have been nice if the car was kept day 2. Mark |

The link to Hemmings says they want $180K. It was only $170 before BJ. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif
If someone offered me $95K for my incorrect, incomplete and no paperwork COPO, I would have to think about it. The grin factor is huge. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif I would love to see what kind of "new" documentation would be discovered after the sale. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif |
Re: Copo for sale!!!
If this was Ben Wenzel's car, that is pretty good proof of what it is. He is still racing his '67Z28, and has been for 34 years. He is only a phone call away. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif

Re: Copo for sale!!!
The original owner did have the protect-o-plate and dealer invoice from Berger. Ed Cuneen told me it was the first Berger invoice he has seen. The car is real. Its just a shame it was painted red. I think the spoilers were also added. Where are those old shots on this website that showed it "as found" at Wenzel's house??? I'd like to see those pictures again. It was priced at $ 75,000, huge money it seemed at the time.

Re: Copo for sale!!!
My apologies if I sounded like I didn't beleive it was a real car. It is, and the history speaks for itself. However, as I told Jeff, I pray every day for stupid money. If I really wanted to sell my car, I know enough guys that want it, and the selling price would be fair, but if someone made me an offer I couldn't refuse, goodby COPO! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif
As a lifelong car guy, there are things that I understand, and things that I don't. Why people offer cars at prices that are beyond beleif I can understand. Why people pay those prices is what I want to know. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif Andy |
