Bud,
not sure there was a 68 Fairlane GT. The 390 was not necessarily a hipo motor either. Now a 68 Fairlane 427, that would be worth picking up!

Here is a Fairlane 500 Fastback for $800. http://www.collectorcartraderonline....4/77145284.htm

Torino GTs from 1968 are really nothing to tell your friends about unless they have a CJ. 390s are not exactly rare, and they are stones in comparison to other mid-displacement cars of the period. Engine code should be an "S" if a 4bbl. They never made a 427 in that body.

Yes Bud, we need to turn you into a Pontiac man. 62 421 Catalina would be just fine.

Re: Need '68 Fairlane Fastback expert tonight....

In '68 Ford introduced the Torino GT as the top of the line of the Fairlane. Bottom was Fairlane then Fairlane 500 then Torino GT. GT had C stripe as did '69. Fastback model in 500 & GT. Owned '69. Ho boy, it was a January 2 made car. Kevin may remember it if he reads this. Same color as pic above with white stripe.

Re: Need '68 Fairlane Fastback expert tonight....

There also was a regular Torino in the heirarchy. And the '68 had a much different C stripe than the '69. The '68's followed the beltline along the top. This is for the fastback. The coupe and ragtop had the traditional stripe along the rockers.

Re: Need '68 Fairlane Fastback expert tonight....

There never was a SCJ 351, especially in 1972. There was a Gran Torino Sport available with a 351CJ, and I believe the 351HO (low-compression Boss engine) was available too. There was one of the former at the Pure Stock drags this fall.

Re: Need '68 Fairlane Fastback expert tonight....

I searched the net from one end to the other last night..I think you may be right from the very limited hits I made..I think it was like a 260HP 351 CJ for 72...do you have any docs around on decoding the animals????...I found zippo past 71...I am pretty sure it should have a Q code for the motor but guessing as thats a 71 number but I saw some adds for 72's claiming Q code cars...anyway this car as they all are,LOL was owned by old gal from new and the current owner picked it up over 15 yrs ago rebuilt the carb as some dohicky plug had fallen off it and it was dumping gas all over the motor..he drove it home pulled all the chrome and started fixing the door dings.. and did not get very far past that....it has stuff piled all around it I am told...he swears up and down it says Super Cobrajet on the car...anyway until I hook up with a expert on these things..I am a little in the dark on it....

Bud.

Re: Need '68 Fairlane Fastback expert tonight....

Q code means 351CJ. I don't think the cars ever said anything about CJ on them, much less SCJ. We know people can pull yarns, so I expect this is no different. Go to work54.com/Forum/198944 to ask more there.
