Unmolested LT1 Motor with 6000 Miles / CTB Coded

Hello Marlin,

You had asked for some pictures of my buddy's original and untouched 6000 mile LT1 motor and here they are for your review and analogy. I have only posted 2 pictures for now but have an additional 45 photo's I can send you for resto comparison purposes.

http://x33d80.com/images/Misc/LT1.jpg
This shows the complete motor as intact and original.

http://x33d80.com/images/Misc/LT1_CTB.jpg
Here you can clearly see the CTB crayon marks on the side of the block. I have an additional 45 photo's which include a lot of good tight shots of this unrestored and original 6000 mile LT1 motor. It belongs to a good buddy of mine and perhaps he can chime in and tell you how he acquired it. I told him you wanted photo's of the markings for comparison purposes and he was cool with me taking these.

You might also recognize the Yenko Deuce in the background. I believe this is car #122 and it belongs to a local friend who just brought it out to get some resto work done on the car. It just so happened to arrive last night and made an awesome backdrop for this motor to be photographed. (lol)

PM me and include an email address where I can send you the rest of the photo's that detail the original ink stamps, paint markings, pad stamping, and carb stamps.

Enjoy.....Graeme

Re: Unmolested LT1 Motor with 6000 Miles / CTB Coded

Wow!! Excellent pics, I'd love the other 45 too. We have seen this CTB written upside down on only two other engines, good pic.

The deuce in the background was sold new at Kidder Knoefler Chev. in Sioux City Iowa. It was at SCR1 and sold shortly thereafter. The car was the 13th deuce built, stock #YS-122, 4speed, no p/s, and was 'found' on a used car lot in TN after a military guy traded it in on something. Car was sold through Johnny Griffin of G&K Corvettes in Gallatin, TN.

Not to start a flood of picture requests, but I do would like to get copies for my research files. And for no extra charge https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/laugh.gif ....

I would also be willing to host a web page for them provided that:

a) You want published at chevynova.org and
b) Marlin and the SYC comunity feel it would be ok to let this info out.

BTW, Anything sent for the research files is kept safe.

Thanks,
Greg

Ok folks....

I sent the group of Photo's out and I believe that Greg Roberts will be posting them on the Nova Site at http://www.chevynova.org where you can then download them as required. These were cortesy of Mike Thorpe in Calgary and are intended to help anyone research or restore their CTB coded blocks the way they did them in the production line. Enjoy them...and thanks Mike!

Thank you for the pics, they are invaluable for the Yenko Deuce resto efforts. It's nice to see the detail items that coincide with what has been found on various Yenko Deuce engines, specifically the white 'X's on the ends of the heads. These pics will be added to the Yenko Deuce Info Book that is supplied to all Deuce owners, now it's just a little bit longer. I will also incorporate them into the long awaited Yenko Deuce Resto Detail thread.

You are welcome. I am just providing a home for this information. It is the folks who send the pictures, details and stories that make it work. I will continue to post what I get for the benefit of the hobby.

I am slowly building information for the Yenko Deuce Research Site

I was thanking the sender of the pics, but a big thanks to Gregg as well for starting the NRG and for hosting his site.

As of now the Yenko.net site is the place for my Deuce details as we try to keep a common focal point for this stuff. The deuces were all built in 3 consecutive weeks, which has made our research window quite small compared to the larger effort that Gregg has undertaken. Major Kudo's to Gregg and his NRG for taking on such a task, think CRG but for Novas https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Those pics are amazing, the more I look at them, the more I see. For eg; it would appear that the back of the engine was never painted, you can see where it trails off behind the last exhaust port. It also looks like there was a lot more overspray on the front of the intake at one time, including the bottom of the thermo housing, and part of the hi-rise section under the carb. Two different head bolt markings. A white X on the intake in front of the distributor. Funny looking bracket holding the fuel line behind the vac. secondary. The list goes on!! Good pics.

I have been following this thread with much interest. There is an ORIGINAL forum at the 2nd Gen Camaro web site, with many CTB owners. WHAT specific car was this 6000 mile engine removed from ???? ..... a 70 Z-28 or Yenko Duece
Thanks, Chuck Sharin
There is a www.nastyz28.com Michigan member who shared the following pics of his SURVIVOR cleaned only 22K mile 70 Z. Many of us are looking forward to seeing it in person at the 2005 Car Show season

Chuck try saving them as a JPEG instead of BMP. The later makes the file a lot larger than the first. Heres your one pic but saved as a JPEG at photobucket.com

First of all I want to extend "special" holiday greetings to Charley.......The pictures I saved to my Photobucket account were COPIED from the nastyz28 site and PASTED into my Email. I then saved each pic into MY PICTURES (on WinXP)as a BMP as JPEG was not an option......Then at PhotoBucket I uploaded each picture still being a BMP , but I believe P.B. resized them. HOW or WHERE should have I converted them to JPEG. I usually do this with Adobe Printshop, but wanted to avoid that step. I also dont understand why, I couldnt right click the original posted pic and "SAVE AS"
Oh well I tried, which is more than the vast majority of most.......
Regards, Chuck

Re: Unmolested LT1 Motor with 6000 Miles / CTB Cod

Chuck,

You asked where this engine came from. It was out of a low mileage 70 Z/28 that was totalled in 1970. It was taken out as shown (no exhaust on it - the ones pictured are to protect the ports only) and sat in dry storage for a long time before my friend Mike aquired it in recent years. The car reportedly had 6000 miles on it when wrecked and the motor condition would coincide with those facts as it is a fine looking specimen.

Later this week I will be taking a few more shots of it with Yenko user RSZMJT (Mike Thorpe)who owns this LT1. We are going to take shots of the head castings with the covers removed (spotless inside)and of the date coded wires, and various front profile shots in better clarity. These will be sent to Greg Roberts of NRG and Marlin where they can then add them to their respective Yenko Deuce posts. (see link above)

Great job Greg, and thanks for the nice words Marlin. I think Mike and I both enjoy things like this because it betters the info and allows those with a pure interest to restore their projects to a correct level.

Cheers! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Thank you chuck, the pic of the TCS hose routing is very helpful, it shows about how long the 4 hoses need to be.

For years I searched for other deuce pics of the CTB on the sides of the block, only found one guy in CT. Now look at 'em all https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif Good pics.

So there really is a bracket holding the fuel line at the carb. They didn't last long in the old days. Very informative pictures. Thanks, Sam

Re: Unmolested LT1 Motor with 6000 Miles / CTB Cod

I recently purchased a '72 LT1 Corvette and one of the items that I had to clear up on the stamp was the one square "0" and one oval "O" in the build stamp. The same two types of "0"'s appear in the build stamp of the 6,000 mile car. I've been able to document these same two "0" in LT1's built in '70, '71, and '72. I also sent a tracing of my pad to the person that keeps the Corvette master pad library and he verified both "0"'s as typical UAW work.
I just thought I would add that since the same characters appeared in the low mile LT1 stamp.

--------The orange Z really appears to be a very special car. Beautiful, just beautiful. I am surprized by the length of the carb studs. They appear to have at least an inch of thread above the nut. Its like Chevrolet wanted you to put a spacer in there.........Bill S

Re: Unmolested LT1 Motor with 6000 Miles / CTB Cod

I agree Tim, that was another thing that jumped out at me. I will have to check my block tonight to see if the Deuces have the same 'O' & '0', they should since that was stamped at Flint, unlike the vin which was stamped at Norwood/Willow Run.

is that a fuel line bracket or is that the bracket that should mount to front carb stud to hold the PCV hose?

YENKO DEUCE REGISTRY 12-07-2004 11:31 PM

Re: Unmolested LT1 Motor with 6000 Miles / CTB Cod

I don't think it's the PVC hose bracket, that one is straight with a loop at the end. I've never seen that fuel line bracket, nor the shield under the cap, on any of the Deuces. Interesting items though!
