Yenko's Dormont Dealership...then & now

As i was sorting through some of my Yenko photo collection this past weekend, I came across this photo taken by Don in 1987, very shortly before his death, showing his Subaru/Used Cars dealer lot in Dormont, PA, which is a suburb of Pittsburgh. My brother Erik (SupercarKid), who lives in Dormont, was helping me inventory the stuff, and thought this particular photo looked strangely familiar... well today he sent me a pic of this exact location, which happens to be less than 1 block from his home... The Dormont location was strictly Subarus and used cars. As far as I know the Turbo Z's were done at the Yenko Chevy dealership in McMurray PA.

I have some pictures of this place and if I remember correctly there is a Suburu pickup parked on the side with the Yenko crest on the door.

Yenko Honda is farther out Rt. 19 South, away from the City of Pittsburgh. On the same road as the old Subaru location, just 10-15 miles apart. Yenko Honda is just a few miles from what is now "Sun Chevrolet" Yenko's old McMurray Chevrolet location, which was built to replace the outdated Canonsburg dealership in '72.

The current Yenko Honda dealership has never been a Chevy dealership. I have some pics of the contruction of the Mcmurray dealership that was erected in 1972 that I will post later if anyone is interested. Its a Yenko Brat with a bra
here are some pics from a box of photos that I think were Frank Yenkos pictures from over the many years he ran the dealership. In the 1940s they sold cars and GE appliances Frank was into antique cars as there are photos of him with a group of cars from 1920s. Frank had a 20s Chevy with a Yenko licence plate frame. There are also pictures of "Yenko" Firetrucks, garabage trucks etc that I guess were trucks purchased through Yenko's |
