1966 Shelby GT 350 drag car
If you guys want to see a rare drag car ask Colin at classic auto to post some pictures of his new one of 4 ever built one of two in existence Shelby GT 350 drag car he just bought.

Re: 1966 Shelby GT 350 drag car
Could this be the red one with a Paxton supercharger that Richard Tisdale of Austin,TX owned in the mid 80's? He was collecting the 50 fastest musclecars built. It was a low mile example with an interesting history.

Re: 1966 Shelby GT 350 drag car

No, it is 6S011 , the first of 4 66 cars. The only one that came as a factory drag unit - the others were dealer prepared. Two were destroyed, one racing and one driving down the freeway - had a minor accident that started a fire, and they let it burn! Then it was bulldozed into a landfill ! The other remaining car has little race history and there are some questions about it.
All of them were white/blue , because they were all "carry over" 65 cars , so basically a 65 GT350 with 66 plexiglass side windows, side scoops, 66 gauges and tach on dash, but with a 65 Ford vin and all 65 GT350 features like over ride traction bars, Cragar wheels, lowered upper a-arms, etc. The drag cars were pretty cool. I'll try to post a pic! Colin |

Here's a '65 back in the day. Gus Zuidema drove this one for Harr Ford in Worcester, Mass.

Re: 1966 Shelby GT 350 drag car
It's either the same car or one like it that I saw at the Saturday car gathering in Laguna Beach(?)

Same car - it just got here from California two days ago.

Re: 1966 Shelby GT 350 drag car
There are those skinny Cragar S/S's again on the Mel Burns car. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: 1966 Shelby GT 350 drag car
I remember reading about those cars years ago and the landfill. I think they traced it to where it was buried and didn't go any farther, right? Not sure if there would be much left than a few crusty and bent frame rails.

Re: 1966 Shelby GT 350 drag car
Just happened to see this post.
I personally re-restored 6S011. I owned the car in the late 90's and did everything except the paint. Currently as of spring of 2005, to the best of my knowledge, the car is owned by Les Moonves, the president of CBS. Les Quam....don't you wish you bought it from me when it was cheap? I begged you to buy it. My current project is the 'Russ Dunmire' 68 Hurst Olds drag car. Yep THAT 68 Hurst olds.... |

Re: 1966 Shelby GT 350 drag car
I no longer own #11 - I intend to bring the 65 Hurst Gee-To Tiger and my 65 (Original) 427 Cobra to SCR8. Charley and the Super Snake won't know what hit him! LOL

Re: 1966 Shelby GT 350 drag car
Against the Cobra? The only thing Charley can hope to do is bring the Silver Arrow, leave the traction control ON and put both feet on the accelerator pedal. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Re: 1966 Shelby GT 350 drag car
Jim Ferron,
It is relatively easy to confuse me but your post has me completly lost. As far as I know we have never met and have only spoke on the phone a couple of times last November regarding 6S011 after I purchased the car from Colin last year for some background on the history of the car. I can't remember ever discussing the car with you while you owned it or you begging me to buy it? I have owned 6S011 since last summer and it has been on display at the Shelby museum in Las Vegas since November of 2004. If the president of CBS owns a 66 GT 350 with the Shelby VIN 6S011 that would be news to both him and myself? |

Re: 1966 Shelby GT 350 drag car
Stop sandbagging, Clill. My dog could break into the 13's in the Super Snake. Want me to bring him? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif

Re: 1966 Shelby GT 350 drag car
But you would have to throw a toy for him all the way down the track.
|
Re: 1966 Shelby GT 350 drag car
I have had to use food now , since he has gone blind he can't find the toy anymore. Hey, what do you want for a 120 year old Lab? My Boxer could drive, but he can't reach the pedals. And he might stop half track to lick himself or fart. Or both. You know how Boxers are , it is all about them.

But in cleaning out my desk a month ago I came across your phone name and phone # from when I had the car for sale..I vaguely remember talking to you about the car then [2000/2001 ish] I was begging EVERYBODY to buy that car at the time...Nobody wanted it. I had it for sale for over two years... Someone told me you sold the car...guess they were wrong and that's why I mentioned to the 'best of my knowledge..' Again, I was just responding to a year old post about a car I use to own..sorry if I got some info mixed up. |

The car was not hurt nearly as bad as it may have looked. When I re-restored 6S011 I have more time on my hands and more employees....Now I've only be able to amass parts for 'Russ'... Hope to get it the shop and get serious on it this winter. Here's a pic for those interested.... |

Mel Burns car in action. Spoke to the driver Don Mccain a while back. He is working for Shelby on a project for Performance Associates. Just like the old days. This 65 was painted blue and raced some more and then supposedly sold and stolen, never to be seen again. Bummer.

The owner of this car before Colin would drive it to the same gym in Irvine I go to. I use to get a kick out of the owner actually driving the car around.
|
I think I saw that car around when I lived in Irvine too!

Fella's! My Father-In-Law found the Shelby GT 350 he worked on when he worked at Harr Ford in a barn, and restored it! The car Gus Zuidema raced.

My friends Dad knew Gus very well they were good friends.
Lots of cool stories he told me . |

Awesome car. I knew Shelby sold drag racing Cobras, but didn't realize there were drag racing versions of the GT350 as well.
