Re: Dream Car Garage's: "Muscle Car Shootout"
I agree Mac.
Either the GS 1,or the Hemi. |
Re: Dream Car Garage's: "Muscle Car Shootout"
I vote GS

Re: Dream Car Garage's: "Muscle Car Shootout"
This race will undoubtedly start another Firestorm of Controversy like the original Lasseter vs. Badie (GS vs. Hemi) race in that Muscle Car magazine many years ago https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/crazy.gif

Re: Dream Car Garage's: "Muscle Car Shootout"
Being an E-body Hemi guy, I'm partial to the Hemi. Atleast in 2 of the categories it should represent it self well. However, each car should have their strengths and weaknesses. I'm sure. Re: Dream Car Garage's: "Muscle Car Shootout"
I'll take the Chevelle as the overall winner!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif

Re: Dream Car Garage's: "Muscle Car Shootout"
Speed Channel does not have the cars listed correctly. They should be LS6 Chevelle,AMX,GTO Judge, Hemi Challenger,Hurst Olds,Boss 429 and Stage 1 Buick.
|
Re: Dream Car Garage's: "Muscle Car Shootout"
I should never admit to this but I have a feeling the Buick will come out on top. We shall see. Obviously I would much rather have the LS-6 win overall. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif

Same with the Hemi - acceleration will be a huge factor, but the handling characteristics of the 'Cuda might hold it back. This is all speculation, of course. But let's see what other's here think... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif Mac |

[/ QUOTE ] You're absolutely right. I went to the Dream Car Garage website and it said the following: The Muscle Car Shootout is a one hour special that will put factory stock versions of these legendary cars through a series of tests designed to reveal their strengths and weaknesses. The stars of the special are line up of the muscle car eras heavy hitters: 1969 AMX 390 GO PACKAGE 1970 BUICK GS 455 STAGE 1 1970 HEMI CHALLENGER 1970 CHEVELLE SS 454 LS6 1969 MUSTANG BOSS 429 1969 HURST OLDSMOBILE 1969 PONTIAC GTO JUDGE The shootout will involve five individual tests. Braking and handling will be just as important as straight line acceleration. The test parameters are as follows: 0-60 mph acceleration Standing ¼ mile 60-0 mph braking test Slalom handling test Burn out contest Points will be given for each test, seven points for the fastest time down to one for the slowest. All tests are weighted equally; the winner is the car with the most points. The burn out contest will be the wild card, creating a never before seen test. The shootout will attempt to equalize the variables as much as possible. All cars ran on the same tires, using the same fuel and the same brake materials, so that performance is judged strictly on manufacturer’s differences. The test segments will be interspersed with interviews with owners and industry experts and some cool vintage footage. Peter will be doing the driving and Tom will narrate the special. |
Re: Dream Car Garage's: "Muscle Car Shootout"
Sounds like a neat idea! I'll be sure to catch this one.

Re: Dream Car Garage's: "Muscle Car Shootout"
Don't like the burnout as it is very subjective and saw where a couple of years ago the left tire blew and did quite a bit of damage to the wheel well opening, trim and quarter panel. Don't think I would want to participate in that part of it.
But what do I know. Check attachment. This was early '70's and it was just a 4bbl/at car with 3:90 gears. |
Re: Dream Car Garage's: "Muscle Car Shootout"
Call me silly, but the H/O might have a shot! Looking at the different events, you know that the Hemi is going to suck on the cones and braking. The AMC might shock more than a few people. The Boss 429 has to be in proper tune (as they all do). And of the GM 'A' bodies, who else had a rear stabilizer bar? It will be interesting whose cars they are using for this event. As we all know, if the cars have been trailer queens all of the time, they are not going to like being flogged. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

Sure the H/O has a shot. But I owned a '70 4-4-2, 455 and it was heavier than any Goat or SS I've driven. I'd prefer to see any of the A-bods win! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/headbang.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/headbang.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/headbang.gif Mac |
Re: Dream Car Garage's: "Muscle Car Shootout"
Still partial to the Hemi but I'm also realistic. The braking and slalom results will probably be disapointing. I hope the cars are equipped for a fair comparison. Rears, 4-speed or automatic and I don't know anything about the drivers. Patrick https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif

Re: Dream Car Garage's: "Muscle Car Shootout"
No gto's had a rear sway bar in 69......70 was the first year.

Re: Dream Car Garage's: "Muscle Car Shootout"
Have pure stock versions of the following cars, I run them all in Pure Stock configuration, with electronic (pertronix) ignition being the only changes, and timing,,,,,except for the Chevelle I still own them all.
This is what they have run in the past 2 years. 70' Chevelle LS6 454 best time 13.27@104 4100lbs 69' Pontiac Judge RAIV 13.10@105 3900lbs 70' Buick GSX 455 Stage 1 13.34@104 3950lbs 68' Ford Mustang 428 Cobra Jet 13.06@103 3600lbs Weights are with me in them. As for the show: The Fastest Pontiac would NOT be a 69' Judge, but a 69 Firebird and with a 400 RAIV, this car weighs 300lb less than a Judge and has vastly superior exhaust manifolds, due to the engine being in a different frame. Another Top Contender would be a 73' 455SD Trans AM, these haul as* and are without question one of top 5 fastest pure stockers. There is a HUGE difference in performance between standard GTO D-port heads and round port RAII,RAIV,SD heads. If the Judge on the show doesn't have a RAIV it will have zero chance of competing well. The 68 1/2 428CJ Mustangs weighed 150-200lbs less then the 69' CJ models, and therefore are a couple of tenths quicker. These were probably the fastest Ford muscle cars, other than a razor sharp tuned BOSS 429. Who will win the ET sections??...which ever car happens to respond best to the weather at the time, and is tuned the sharpest, and hooks the best. I think they all are within a few tenths of one another under ideal conditions. (which of course is extremely rare) The Ford BOSS 429 like the Mopar Hemi, either will run fantastic if tuned properly, or will be a dissapointment. But if either one of those Hemi's runs near their potential: Everybody else goes home a loser. |

[/ QUOTE ] https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif I stand corrected, Don. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/blush.gif I remembered that Delorean left in '69, and the first thing the new GM (McDonald)? did to the GTO was sway bars. But it stands to reason that it was probably for the '70 GTO -not the '69. This means the H/O really DOES stand a better chance! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif Mac |
