That car is simply awesome. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

I like how you see a lot of cars for sale with the Barrett Jackson plug. Like anyone needs a reminder. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif This car stands well enough on it's own. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif

That's a really cool car. Too bad they couldn't get the JL8 package on there too.

First of all I am not a Camaro guy but this car is absolutely amazing! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif

Rick before I finished reading the thread and saw your response I thought of that picture. I am attaching it again. This picture was actually taken by my father in the spring of 1969. You can see the orange 1969 Illinois plates. I posted it before and people said that they were added. I wonder if it was possiable if the factory did it? What do you guys think?

$100K Reserve Not Met

5 days 21 hours left.

Might be a good time to start poping the popcorn. This is going to be interesting.

Re: Interesting

I would like to see any kind of paperwork that shows the stripes were done like that at the factory. Do they say the car is orig paint ? Do they say the black replacement grill with the Z28 emblem in the wrong place was done at the factory also ? Looks like the top of the firewall is blue instead of white like the stripe color. There are several Camaros out there painted that same color of blue. Might be a neat car but I have a hard time believing all of it.

Re: Interesting

I have seen them same stripes on 67 camaro's also. I really doubt it is factory. I have seen stripes like that on vintage scca race cars. Roger

Would someone like to educate me on this? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif I just returned from a local car show where I saw a very nicely restored RS Z/28. It was hugger orange with white stripes and the top of the cowl beneath the cowl vent panel was painted white. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Salvatore 07-05-2004 03:20 AM

Re: Interesting

As they went down the assembly line, the cars with stripes had the cowl area painted the color of the stripes. Of course the cowl was off. This overspray was not taped off but painted by "a good hand" so the cowl area looked cleaner when the stripes were applied on the cowl itself and hood. When the cowl was put on the car the vents that you see into looked like a better paint job instead of dry overspray. I might of used too many words. Hope you are not more confused. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif Sam

Re: Interesting

"interesting" maybe, but am I the only one who finds this rare color and stripe combo to be hideously ugly? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif I agree with Charley, the grill looks to have been replaced, and is black instead of silver, and unpainted around the outside... installed right out of the box, and the emblem put on it the wrong place... To each his own, but I'd take ANY standard color 69 Z with "normal" sripes on it over smurf blue any day...JMO!

Re: Interesting

The guy states in his ad that the quarters, trunk and floor are original, yet he says the car is only original once. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif Well if the rest of the body has been replaced why would he claim that it's original. That would also mean that the car was repainted, explaining the lack of the stripe and the replacement grill (you would think that with this RARE car that he would take the time to do it right). Maybe the original front clip was taken out in an accident?, but then again that dosent explain the rest of the car, what about the rest of the chassis? WOW 130K, we're approching Yenko/Copo territory with 5 days to go. If this car reaches $150 the buyer must have escaped from a home. Watch it come back on saying the guy was a mooch. He says it is also being advertised locally, i wonder what he expects out of it becouse reserve still is'nt met. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Just out of curiosity i phoned that #, no answer but the answering machine sounded like a kid or a woman. Come to think of it maybe the car belongs to a woman, it would explain the RARE color. Not that men ar'nt into Baby Blue muscle cars, i wonder if it comes with matching fuzzy pink seat covers??? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/blush.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif

Didn't Legendary have an LS-6 Chevelle in this same color a while back? It seems like it took them a very long time to move that car. To me it looks better on the Camaro. I'd like to know if the Baby Blue used on the 70 Oldsmobiles is the same color. I've seen them with bright blue stripes. Very unusual!

Charley Lillard 07-05-2004 05:42 PM

Re: Interesting

Yes I used to own that LS6 Chevelle. It was a Cadillac color. Worldwide Musclecars also had a 69 Camaro SS car that color.

I believe that's GM Paint code #20 Light Blue.
Also known as code #80 when applied on some when built in Canada.Applications B-O-P-Cad.
When the car is done & detailed right..I LIKE IT! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif

I really don't understand all the hangups on if a union worker at a gm plant bolted the intake on or the spoiler, or if a nonunion gm dealership worker out in the garage did it, gm or one of their many subcontractors made the parts and they got on the car period, that car is in a well known camaro book so its gonna go for big money and double that in 5-10yrs when its resold and so on..if your a tarheel fan I would buy the car now cuz all special short runs are only gonna push in the future the 68zconvert recent price that had a lot of the same questions as to its crossram, jl8, etc. being orig, or installed 2wks later, or freshened up..buy it drive it and sell it later for double https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Nicely put. It's OK to call out details that aren't correct, but there's no need to question the seller's ethics in absence of any proof to the contrary.

Re: Interesting

It does not appear to be the same one pictured in John R. Hoopers book "The 1969 Camaro Reference Book" However the one pictured in the book has a hand written note that reads, "continued on the following page" So maybe the one pictured in the auction is the second page?

Jeff H 07-06-2004 11:44 PM

Re: Interesting

Interesting car, but does the paperwork show the light blue to be the original color ordered? Also, is the chambered exhaust added, I couldn't see the NC8 on the option sheets? I don't want to beat up on the car, but if you want to get $150K you could at least have some pictures that are big enough to read the paperwork.

Attached is the picture of the order form from the Hooper book. Color is indicated as "Special paint blue with white". No codes.

After looking further yes the one in the auction appears to be the 2nd page. I would have flaunted the documentation.

hvychev 07-07-2004 07:02 AM

Re: Interesting

I would assume that any real serious buyers would not rely on reading the docs from the auction to decide wheather to purchase the car. I know if I was going to spend that type of cake I would be on a plane to see it in person.

Re: Interesting

teamcamaro has light blue as code 80 and a very similiar one under commercial truck for 1969 as code 504, both look like this cars' color, samples of the paint codes are provided at bottom of team camaros paint code page.. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif

A local friend of mine bought a parts car out of Colorado. It is a -- paint code car painted that blue with white stripes like a Z and blue standard gut. A 6 banger that was called a Denver Hugger. The color is "different"..BKH

Re: Interesting

The color on this Z-28 is called "Carolina Blue". We processed quite a few special orders in 1969-70 for cars to be painted this color.

Re: Interesting

I don't have Hooper's book, but does it show on the paperwork the owner trying to order the NC8 chambered exhaust and JL8 4 wheel disc brakes? I'm surprised the car isn't an RS with all the other options that were added. It looks like someone went down the option list and checked every box they could get. That's pretty cool. Too bad it didn't get the JL8.

I agree with Charlie, why? I don't know maybe for some reason I like the guy. Smile Charlie it was great seeing you at Carlisle.

Just to add a little bit to the stripes thing here is a picture of a Z/28 we just sold and it had original paint. The car had been off the road since 1975 and was found in a barn in PA. We believe the stripes are original to the car.

Re: Interesting

Jeff- Really hard to see because the picture is so small. But I think it might say "chambered" on the first line of the order form which is pictured in the auction.

Rick- Can you post more pictures of this car??

Jeff H 07-07-2004 06:24 PM

Re: Interesting

The picture from Hoopers book shows the 4.10 gears being ordered but only the 3.73 shows up on the documentation in the auction. So if somebody did try to order all those options it sure looks like they were too late for some of them and others got overlooked. Very interesting history to this car.

Canucklehead 07-07-2004 07:41 PM

Re: Interesting

When i watch these cars on ebay going for bg dollors, i gotta ask myself "why would somebody pay that kind of money sight unseen and not even talk to the guy", not only that but i would'nt put any money in anybodys account that i don't have some kind of rapor with. These days you never know what or who this guy represents. I've noticed some cars on e-bay that would command a much better price but just can't reach that mark on a small info auction such as e-bay but yet the guy leaves no contact info for anybody that may want to persue the car through another venue. I guess anybody that has a serious car would not normally go to e-bay. It seems to me that if your selling your car on e-bay it seems to be questionable. Anybody thats has cars such as the ones on this board have no problem finding buyers anyways.......................my 2 cents
