Re: 69 Z28 Stock Flat Hood
I would say they only built around 4-5 thousand Z's with the duct hood, maybe less. Sometime maybe in late December of 68 you could get one, but doubt it. If the car was standard interior, I don't think a flat hood even came with insulation back then. Very few Z/28's had factory installed duct hoods I believe. Sam

Re: 69 Z28 Stock Flat Hood
I agree Sam. If there were a little over 10,000 Camaros with the cowl hood, 3675 were Pace Cars, around 800-1000 were COPOs and then add in some SS cars and that leaves 5000 or less for the Z28's.
|
Re: 69 Z28 Stock Flat Hood
I believe that around 10% of the -69 Z28 cars had the special ducted hood from the factory.
My friend Hans has a nice one that came with a flat hood, but had the hood switched in the seventies. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif Anders |
Re: 69 Z28 Stock Flat Hood
I don't believe the insulation is correct for a 'flat' hood. It's true, very few Z/28s originally had the cold air hood but it seems all of them have one now. When I bought my Z/28 last year it had a GM ZL2 hood on it that was added back in the 80s. I bought a used flat hood, painted and installed it. Now it looks like it did from the factory.
Wow, just noticed that this was my 69th post. My favorite number https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif |
Re: 69 Z28 Stock Flat Hood
Me to. My car came with the works when I got it. But from the factory it was a flat hood no spoilers car.
|
Re: 69 Z28 Stock Flat Hood
My 69-Z came with the flat hood and thats the way I am going to leave it.
|
Re: 69 Z28 Stock Flat Hood
Flat hoods, without the deluxe interior which included sound and noise proofing, didn't come with hood insulation. I am pretty sure. Standard interiors with flat hoodshttps://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gifinsulation. Sam

Re: 69 Z28 Stock Flat Hood
It's hard to tell a lot from the 2 pic's but the smog stuff is missing under the hood and I can't see well enough to see if the manifolds are plumbed and plugged for the smog.
Go over it good I bet they want a lot for it... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif |
Re: 69 Z28 Stock Flat Hood
Looks like wrong manifolds. It is all about adjusting the price to suit the BUYER.

Re: 69 Z28 Stock Flat Hood
That is right 59,000. A little high! On the other hand, Where are all those $30,000 Z's at that people are telling you about. Once you really look at them, there are not really worthy. I have a very nice one myself. R/S with endura bumper Z/28. Sam

Re: 69 Z28 Stock Flat Hood
wanting 59 is different than getting 59 !!! I would go inspect the red one...

Re: 69 Z28 Stock Flat Hood
Pointing out the missing smog and wrong manifolds was not a put down of the car. Knowing what you are looking at is a great help at bargining time. I was also going to point out the seperation in the center of the grill stiffner in the 1st pic. Again not picking the car apart...
Around here the smog equipment is an expensive item and most Z owners are putting it back on or running the correct manifolds (also expensive) with plugged smog tube bungs. Good luck - buyer beware... |
Re: 69 Z28 Stock Flat Hood
Dennis, You got good eyes with the grill stiffner. I feel that all cars are worth something. Like you said we only pick them apart to adjust the cars value. The more points the car has the more it is worth. The less amount of positives the less it is worth. Numbers matching is not as critical to me as a near perfect resto where everything has to look correct. Non matching has to reflect the price. I feel in my area car prices do reflect more the quality of the resto, more than if the motor is original to the car. JMO Sam

Re: 69 Z28 Stock Flat Hood
Why is every car frowned upon because they don't have smog???????? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif Every time a really nice car is posted there someone is saying...wheres the smog?
I can't wait to get that crap off of my Deuce. The only reason it's still on is because I promised Marlin when I blow his doors off it would be a fair fight. After SCR7 it is gettin deep sixed! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif |
Re: 69 Z28 Stock Flat Hood
People love the smog. When I'm at a car show someone always coments on it. That is how insane we are. The first thing that got thrown in the trash is the thing everyone wants now. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif

[/ QUOTE ] Nobody is frowning on the car, why can't someone point out something that might give another a barganing chip at a dealership where the car is most likely on consignment and the seller is gonna get several thousand less than the asking price? You're not the seller or the dealer listing the car are you? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif From the 3 pic's I've seen the engine looks very clean, tie-raps are cool holding the hood up on a car like the mule but look real tacky in place of wire looms and the grill stiffner is bent, it's little things that make me wonder and suggest it's likely to be a consignment and over priced. I'm sure it's a nice car but if you have to spend $1500 to put smog back on it, replace a possible broken grill and since there are no more shots showing the rest of the car who knows what other little items might add up to another grand or more that could come off the asking price right off the top. Just a small tidbit more on the smog equipment, here in CA there is no manditory smog test for these old cars. The law still says the car has to pass both visual and and be compliant to be operated. So we all run around in a grey area, if you get pulled over and the cop decides to send you to the smog ref and you don't pass visuals what do you do? Everyone use to take their chances, many still do and the cops are fairly cool but we have this group of folks that feel our old cars are gross polluters. They keep introducing bills that if passed would put everything back to 1964 in the loop for smog checks... Funny, was there even any smog equipment on many of the early say, 1964 cars? The bill starters don't care if they are testing and failing cars that have no polution control devices to be repaired, they are just glad to get them gross polluters off the road. So in light of all that, smog pumps and proper exhaust manifolds are in big demand out here. Hobbiests are just being prepared for what could be coming their way in a few years. Imagine what it might be like 5 years from now trying to find a smog pump!! I got a bit long winded but I hope that answered your question! Besides all that, why do you care what others want to talk about or want to do with their cars? Sorry Charlie!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/blush.gif |

Re: 69 Z28 Stock Flat Hood
You're right, but there are big differences in a PCV valve and a smog pump and assoc. plumbing...

Besides all that, why do you care what others want to talk about or want to do with their cars? [/ QUOTE ] That's real funny Dennis......that is what I thought when I saw your comment about the smog. Not every car has to be totally "correct." It seems that every time a car is posted here people look at it and start to list the things that are not factory correct. Some of us couldn't care less if it is correct or not. I for one just want to drive em and have a good time. Every one is entitled to there opinion I guess....that goes for us both. Afterall this is a public forum. I will try to look at it that way more often. It's just that I have been here for a couple of years and some people may have noticed that it is a pet peeve of mine when cars are picked apart weather they are sold by dealers or not. I also have heard the argument about helping potential buyers so they don't get screwed. The flip side to that is that some people like to hide behind that just to show everybody how smart they are. Here is another scenario. My friend and I were at a cruise night yesterday. My friend is relatively new to the show circuit with his car. He spotted a 70 Chevelle with a terrible paint job. He laughed and said how $hitty it looked. I was pissed and had to explain to him car show etiquette. It went something like keep your comments to your self. Or if you have nothing nice to say don't say it at all. I mean if that car were at a car show would you walk up to the owner and point out..."wheres the smog" or "The grill whatever piece is missing". I think not. Most of us hate "that guy" at a car show. Why can't those rules apply here? Not trying to start WWIII with you. This is just a friendly discussion |

This site by nature is all about correct and numbers matching cars, would that explain why correctness comes up so often here? The topic starter asked [ QUOTE ]

Re: 69 Z28 Stock Flat Hood
No need for this to get out of shape, but you guys have to admit to me one thing....in 1968,69,70 etc. how long did the smog, and small 14" (steel) wheels, and little tires, and the 5 pound radiator fan etc really stay on these cars? Your right, about a week. GM only put the minimum on these cars because they didn't want to spend the money on the show room floor when they knew EVERYBODY changed to more performance equipment. The potential from these cars were there, it was up to the owner to get it out of them. Day 2 is more acceptable than all the original junk that came on these cars. We would think that the guy that owned a muscle car in the early days a dork if he didn't change all that stuff right away. I say keep all that original stuff on your shelves, but make the car what it really was intended to do. Go fast and be dependable! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif

Re: 69 Z28 Stock Flat Hood
When people ask for opinions and estimated values on cars, then the car should be picked apart to help the person determine what they would be willing to pay for a car. To replace a smog setup is not cheap so it should be pointed out. But if you have no plans to run stock exhaust then it might not be a factor in buying a particular car.
|
Re: 69 Z28 Stock Flat Hood
When someone asks about a car on here, they get an honest evaluation. That is not picking a car apart. Not everyone on here wants a car that looks like it was brand new yesterday. It is good to know what the car is missing or not correct, but some are just looking for a nice driver. And helping people with there car can save them money and ensure the car is being sold honest. We have to teach, inform, and police our own hobby. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif Roger

Re: 69 Z28 Stock Flat Hood
Try to always bring a car up to show quality and a near perfect resto., and then you can back it down. Franks car is probably to that caliber what I can see. He would definetly, in my opinion not harm its value buy making it into Day 2. I don't think Frank is going to throw his parts out, so in maybe 1 weekend he could put it back to original, https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smirk.gifthe way the car looked for about 3 days. Still a very, very nice car in any fashion! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif Sam
