DANA Chevrolet 1967 Trans Am Camaro
I am looking for any information about the sister car to Dick Guldstrands 1967 DANA Trans Am Camaro. It was built at the same time Dick's car was and both cars went to Sebring.
Tom Lynch was the original owner. I believe Bob West was the second owner. The car raced in the UK in the Tourist Trophy series then went to Belgium and ran the 24 Hr. Race at Spa in 1967 then returned to the States to compete in Trans Am and A Sedan until 1969 or1970. Any photos of the car or owner history is needed. If anyone has any information or knows where Tom Lynch is today please contact me. [email protected] Looking forward to hearing from you. |
Re: DANA Chevrolet 1967 Trans Am Camaro
Aloha on Dick Guldstrands 1967 DANA Trans Am Camaro, would you happen to have the Trim Tag Info if its a LOS car? Or would you happen to know if this car has a Fleet Code listed on the tag?
Also please fill in your profile so others may know who they are talking with in the posts. |
Re: DANA Chevrolet 1967 Trans Am Camaro
Hi Jeff, Both the Guldstrand and Lynch "DANA Trans Am cars" were from the LA plant. They were SS 350's converted to Trans Am specs. Neither car was a Z28.

Mahalo, I was hoping that mabe just maybe they were made from a 396 car that would have a fleet order code on the tag. Again Mahalo for the reply

Do you have any CAN AM ? I was at Mossport when Mike Allen went airborn at the top of the back straight and was killed. I was on the crew and man that was a sad trip home.

Re: DANA Chevrolet 1967 Trans Am Camaro
Thanks for the reply. The car was #28 @ Sebring 1967, #47 @ VIR 1968, #27 @ lime Rock 1969. I have photos in all white with no stripes. There is evidence of Yellow pillers and roof edge with the rear panel in yellow but I don't know when it was painted that way. Any help in tracing this is greatly apprieciated,

Re: DANA Chevrolet 1967 Trans Am Camaro
FWIW, the TransAm website ( http://www.trans-amseries.com/ ) box scores from 1969 show Ed Leslie finishing 27th @ Lime Rock in '69 in a Camaro. (But you probably already knew this.)
Also they show two 67 Camaros running @ Mid-Ohio in 1969. One driven by Robert Barg (31) and another by Levester Lewis (32). Other sources show Barg co-driving with Rick Stevens in his "Camaro" that year. |
Re: DANA Chevrolet 1967 Trans Am Camaro
Thanks Jeff, Any idea what color the Barg or Lewis cars were? This car was out of the Virginia area in '68/'69.

Re: DANA Chevrolet 1967 Trans Am Camaro
Not sure, but Barg and Stevens were out of British Columbia I believe.
The TransAm website has pdf files of the original typed box scores for all the races. You might also try the Historic TransAm Group for help. http://www.historictransam.com/ |
Re: DANA Chevrolet 1967 Trans Am Camaro
Thanks Jeff, I have talked to a number of the Trans Am guys. The car is registered in the "Historic Trans Am Registry" by David Tom as # 089 since it is one of the first 100 Trans Am cars built.

Re: DANA Chevrolet 1967 Trans Am Camaro
Is there any series for later (79) vintage TA cars. I have a 69 vette that ran in the TA in 79 just before I bought it. It still has a TA sticker on it.

Re: DANA Chevrolet 1967 Trans Am Camaro
Yep, I thought I should give it a try. Any more news on the engine block? Bring it by when you can. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: DANA Chevrolet 1967 Trans Am Camaro
We run with HSR West but I believe your car is eligble for HSR. I have the 1969 Corvette that won the SCCA regional at Riverside in 1970 in AP. It is originally an L-89 car. Traco built the motor to L-88 spec's a number of years ago. It still has the original block and heads in it. The engine pad barely shows the end of the serial #. It has a Greenwood phase 1 wide body on it now. I believe it was raced in some local Trans Am and IMSA races on the west coast. Also we run a 1976 DeKon Monza. We are trying to get enough cars from that era to make our own race group in the future, with a few different race clubs. Some place for the later T/A, IMSA, GTO and GTU cars to play. A friend just bought one of the real Greenwood customer cars so we are looking forward to running it soon also.

Re: DANA Chevrolet 1967 Trans Am Camaro
I have taken this car to the Runoffs twice in B/P. It also was there once in A/P with the second owner before I got it.
It was bought new by a Colby Hillman of Ohio and has been a race car all its life. (I still have the original title) It was driven on the street for the first year and that is all. It still has all of its original bodywork and frame. It was a blue car when new but is now Red. I was on the crew of Herb Forrest of Tulsa that ran in the trans am series back in '76 - '80 and I was his body and paint man. I saw this car at The Ponca City Grand Prix and then again at the Trans Am race at Hallett and the then owner Mitch Lambert said he was going to sell it after the race as a roller. I bought it and have had a hell of a good time with the ole gal. I qualified it 2 nd in MW division, for the Runoffs in Atlanta GA. in '81 when there was a huge protest of every car in the class but mine over the hoods. I got away with it because mine was a stock L-88 that came on the car. In the race I got spun out on someones water when they blew a motor in the short straight before the back straight. I still finished but down in class. I also ran it in ASR and was 2 nd in division and got the invite again in '83. Not competive again a Lola on that long track. My logbooks for it show it winning lots of races in A/P. I can turn almost as fast a time with a small block as they were with the BB. Especially on tight short tracks. |
Re: DANA Chevrolet 1967 Trans Am Camaro
Nice documentation. I wish I had the complete history on my DANA/Lynch Camaro. It sounds like you have really enjoyed the car. I hope I get to see it someday and maybe even race against it in the future.
