I am no Dick Harrell expert by any strech, I do know a little about engraving if you look at the tag he has a picture of, It appears to be a new one, as it does not have holes in it, and the way the text was laid out it will not match the existing holes on the firewall, and the text is off, looks like he hit is local Trophy shop for a new plate to me. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif

Re: Dick Harrell Nova???

Maybe yes, maybe no. Why do people place ads like this?? My mother might be the queen of England, but she's not. But then again, she is still my mother. If I had a car to sell and I thought it might really be one of the 50, I would do my homework first then ask ALL the money!!!!

Re: Dick Harrell Nova???

Is there a list of vins for those 50 cars spoken of in the ad? Who is this forum's go-to person in regard to these cars?

Re: Dick Harrell Nova???

WHAT KIND OF PLATE DO YOU SUPPOSE WAS UNDER THE TRIM TAG?? LOOKS LIKE SOMETHING WAS THERE FOR YEARS.

skierkaj 03-16-2004 07:38 AM

Re: Dick Harrell Nova???

More than years . . . probably decades. I wouldn't doubt that it's some sort of modified car; the spot under the trim tag sure makes it seem like it has some sort of special history. I guess what I'm saying is, keep an open mind until it's proven false.

03-16-2004 08:02 AM

Re: Dick Harrell Nova???

I don't want to automatically discredit an add. In fact, I hope evey day for a new listing or add like this, to check in to. It helps me keep my hopes and dreams alive. When a car prooves to be something other than it is advertised, I move on and keep looking. I know we need education in supercar history from time to time, but since this thread is so fresh, let's try to keep this history lesson positive.

Re: Dick Harrell Nova???

The ad and pictures for this Nova are lousy. They don't help with anything. There are no pics of the rest of the interior or parts, or the firewall, or the radiator core support, or anything like that.

One can't even look for the clues of a big block, much less the clues for a COPO. The most I can get out of it is that it looks like it had bucket seats and a console.

With only 50 of the COPO's being built, and a handfull of BB cars total, there sure were a lot more "regular" and small-block SS Novas being built in that same time frame. So, yes it could be, but it also might not be. Not enough information.

YENKO DEUCE REGISTRY 03-16-2004 07:26 PM

Re: Dick Harrell Nova???

There really isn't much to go on here, the are no pic's of any BB items, no pic of the radio delete dash, no paperwork, not even a vin to check out. The only clues are the build date and body color like the ad states, how many turquoise Novas were made in '68 with a 735 trim code?

Everybody just hold your comments, I have sent an email to the owner to see what I can do to help confirm or deny this car.

YENKO DEUCE REGISTRY 03-16-2004 08:38 PM

Re: Dick Harrell Nova???

The word is that it's been confirmed, Ed and Porterfield have the numbers. If it's true, expect to see the ad change to reflect that.

Re: Dick Harrell Nova???

The owner emailed me and said it was confirmed as COPO Nova # 4. Sounds like an interesting find . . . https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif

Interesting? I would say awesome! Cars like this make me wish I had money to buy them. I can only hope that one day I'll have the money to pursue awesome cars like this.

And don't give me the 'ol line about working hard, and someday you'll have the money; It doesn't work that way . . . I've discussed this with my Sociology teacher numerous times. The rich are forever rich, and the poor keep getting poorer. That's the way our economic system is designed. That's not to say that I'm poor, but I definitely couldn't afford a car of that caliber.

Maybe if it was through someone's good graces . . .

What's with all the Dick Harrell cars popping up lately? Possibly a 1969 Camaro, and now the Nova . . .

Hmmm, Sociology Prof's - surely have their finger on the pulse of national economics https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif Shouldn't they be studying the negative effects of clothing on pigmys or something?

Jeff H 03-16-2004 08:57 PM

Re: Dick Harrell Nova???

Now I'm a little confused. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif What is it that makes this Nova a COPO? Was it originally a 4 speed car that was converted to a TH400? Or was this one of the 50 TH400 396/375 cars built for racing purposes?

skierkaj 03-16-2004 08:59 PM

Re: Dick Harrell Nova???

Indeed, studying the negative effects of clothing on pigmys would be interesting, but then you would have to take in to account numerous variables, such as what each of the pigmys' thoughts would be about each of the other pigmy's clothes. Confusing! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif Our world is based on peoples perceptions of others. See, I am learning something in college!

Re: Dick Harrell Nova???

All console Novas have a floor hump, regardless of whether they are 4sp or a/t. Per the seller, the car is confirmed as one of the 50 COPO cars, but not sure if it has a connection to Harrell.

We drink good Rolling Rock beer from a Green bottle, does that count https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Jeff H 03-16-2004 09:04 PM

Re: Dick Harrell Nova???

Ok, I read his description again and it says the 4 speed stuff was probably added later in time. So this is 1 of the 50 cars. Pretty cool and the body looks to be in decent shape. Better bid quick before he increases the reserve!

I also heard the auction will be ended in order to obtain more info on the car.

matt murphy 03-17-2004 01:12 AM

Re: Dick Harrell Nova???

Here is some cool info . . . the body build number on this Nova (car #4) is 96366 and the build number on Nova #3 is 96364.

It is also wierd that a plate of any kind was put under the cowl tag as it is very hard to get to it since the power brake booster is in the way. Nova #3 was a Dick Harrell converted 427 car and it didn't have the plate there, in fact it had a black sticker similar in size stuck above the trim tag.

Great to have another one in circulation again . . .

Skierkaj,

First, you will never get anywhere in life waiting for someone's good graces . . . that someone is you, but you will figure that out later in life.

Secondly, an owner who bought one of our 427 ZL1 Camaros, told me that he is just a poor old cattle farmer who didn't have enough money 5 years ago to even buy the magazine that our Camaros have been written in, and today he bought a $92,000.00 ZL1 Supercar and has 10 other showcars. He told me that he found a way to make money from the rich . . . that is what life is all about if you want more money.

Third, I'll bet half of the collectors here did not have money when they grew up. I know a lot of them and they made their money, and did not inherit it. If you wait for something to happen, then it probably wont. If you want to win the lottery, you have to play it. If you want to be rich, you have to play at it. And the harder you play, the better you will be rewarded. Some find an easy way to make money, others dig a little harder. It is out there, but DO NOT have that attitude, or you will probably never get richer or have the cars you are dreaming of . . . and for your Sociology teacher, he or she sounds like one of those that is still waiting for the system to change so they can have more money given to them. That person may be content with being a college teacher, but I see that you have bigger ambitions in life. Dont let people like that bring you down. My parents preached to me the same thing about the harger you work the higher the rewards . . . it worked for me and it will for you . . . but it will not fall into your lap . . . Now take that Motion clone car and change it to a Dick Harrell clone car and make more money . . . https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif

skierkaj 03-17-2004 01:59 AM

Re: Dick Harrell Nova???

I'm always open to everyone's opinion.

As for a Dick Harrell clone, Harrell and Gibb modified Camaros in 67 right? The reason I ask is that I'm looking at a first gen. as we speak. It's in Milwaukee, close to home, and I'm trying to work a deal with the owner (even trade), and I'll probably get a firebird in the process. Check out the thread in this section-- I found the first gen. camaro I wanted!

Maybe a Harrell Clone for that thing? It appears to be in pretty good shape, but there's no pics of the rear quarters, or the panel underneath the rear window. It's a deal either way. . . a 1967 Camaro and a 1968 Firebird for $6000! Hopefully the guy will trade for my Camaro . . . he says the reason he's selling is that he has no room. I don't know, we'll see how it goes.

Spoken like a true entrepreneur, Matt!!!

Skierkaj, you should try to get the SCR 7. Most of the guys you'll talk to are self made men that are their own bosses. They've come up with ways to be successful (and not just money) in a whole variety of ways. The thing that is common to them all is that they take the kind of risks Matt describes. I find it very refreshing to hang out with all these entrepreneurs -- it's a great change from all the very conservative, over-educated corporate hacks like me, my colleagues and most of my clients.

Now if I could just afford my own Gibb Nova (Fathom Blue of course...)
