1970 Ranchero GT 429CJ 4 speed
I just picked up this 98K original mile car. Its a very nice survivor. Full numbers car with 429CJ/370HP 4 speed and 31 spline nodular 9 inch. Any input on the demand for these cars? I never really liked this style but this is a very cool truck!
Thanks, Jason |

It has a shaker hood?
I know Ford sold a few limited number of those cars, but I am not sure of the collectability of them, but they are rare for sure. In any case nice find, they look pretty cool. |
Re: 1970 Ranchero GT 429CJ 4 speed
No shaker hood, but it does have hide away lights, AM-FM, sport mirrors, and many other options. Strangly enough it has a bench seat.

Jason is it by chance a "SUPER"-CJ???? if so they did not make many.

Wsh it was. No oil cooler though. Waiting for the Marti report to find out all original equipment.

Re: 1970 Ranchero GT 429CJ 4 speed
I assume it is a "C" code car? They are rarer than cars with the shaker. I bet they made less than 100 of 'em with both trannys. I'd love to see your Marti Report when you receive it. For now, how 'bout some vital stats like color, lasers, etc?
There was a CJ Ranchero 500 at the B-J auction. They made 6 with the CJ-R and 4-speed. |
Re: 1970 Ranchero GT 429CJ 4 speed
Ha...My Friend bought the SCJ Ranchero that was at Barrett-Jackson. I've been teasing him about the thing and then this thread starts up.

Re: 1970 Ranchero GT 429CJ 4 speed
The car was originally a gold color. It was repainted black long ago and will be going back to the original gold. All original panels, you can even still see the part numbers on the backs. The suspension still has all the tags etc on it. Black bench interior, original and excellent. Power steering, AM-FM, sport mirrors, hubcaps. It has slots on it now but the original rims with polyglass are in the bed. It is a very original car.

Charlie, how much did your friend spend? And I assume he's aware there's some issues with the car in order for it to be correct, right?

Re: 1970 Ranchero GT 429CJ 4 speed
He bought it at the Kruse Auction after it didn't sell. Yes he knows about all the wrong stuff... I think it is the Crown of his collection........... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Re: 1970 Ranchero GT 429CJ 4 speed
The Marti Report finally came in. The guy I got the car from had ordered it so I haven't seen it yet. It looks like everything on the car is original to it and it is one of 24 with that engine/trans combo. Not too shabby I'd say. Time to start on it now! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/laugh.gif

Re: 1970 Ranchero GT 429CJ 4 speed
Jason,
-------Did you happen to buy the car from a divorce lawyer named Dick P? He had a Ranchero that sounds exactly like the one you have described. Even the black repaint. My memory says he was from Manhattan Beach when I knew him back in the early 90s. Nice guy. Would like to get in touch with him again. Could the world be that small?........Bill S |
Re: 1970 Ranchero GT 429CJ 4 speed
I didn't but the guy I got it from may have. He was just "flipping the car". The guys brother had a 65 Vette roadster if that helps. I have the old registrations and will check them out when I am near them.

Re: 1970 Ranchero GT 429CJ 4 speed
So it is a 4-speed C-code? And does it have the Drag Pack?
|
Re: 1970 Ranchero GT 429CJ 4 speed
I'm finally holding the Marti report in my hands. It is a C- code 429 Cobra Jet car with the following options:
Bright Gold Metallic Paint Black Bench seat 3.25 Standard Axle ratio 4 speed close ratio transmission two tone hood paint emissions Visibility light group F70X14 raised white letter tires Power discs Power steering AM/FM stereo radio Hideaway headlights Tinted glass-complete One of 24 with this engine/trans. Sorry no drag pack as you probably already figured out. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif Jason |

Here is a picture of the Marti Report. I don't have a scanner here, this is the best I could do. Why did you want a pic anyway?

Re: 1970 Ranchero GT 429CJ 4 speed
I am interested in the statistics it has to say.

Re: 1970 Ranchero GT 429CJ 4 speed
Great, I was just curious. Any idea of the value of one of these cars restored? I'm a little in the dark since there are so few comps out there.

Re: 1970 Ranchero GT 429CJ 4 speed
I will send pics once its a done car. It is a black repaint right now. Give me a month or so and I'd love to. Besides, it will be a good way to sell it.
