Yenko Aluminum 427?
Saw alum block, alum head big block motor with Yenko Emblem on front of block, above timing case cover. Is this a ZL1 motor or what is it?? Was it a later Yenko offering?
|
Re: Yenko Aluminum 427?
Yenko "aquired" the molds for the ZL1 and started having motors cast with the Yenko crest on them. Most ended up in racing boats.

Re: Yenko Aluminum 427?
Believe Pickett who won the Trans Am in 1978 beating the Chevy Dekons and Porsche 934 & 935s was a Greenwood car powered by a Yenko.
This was the Big Block Corvettes last significant win. (Along with the L-88s A/Prod title same year ) History pretty well unknown in the Corvette hobby |
Re: Yenko Aluminum 427?
I went to Yenko Chevrolet with my Chevelle, now owned by Chris Short, and saw the aluminum blocks lined up in the back room of the facility. I do have a picture of the blocks and Bill Smith, Yenko Horsepower developer, standing in front of them.

Re: Yenko Aluminum 427?
My second most favorite picture of that car. My favorite is the one where Nick is leaving the line with air under the front tires. Simply awesome. Of course, this one will be replaced with one showing Shor pulling the front tires off of the pavement at SCR7. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Remember seeing your car at Arlington Racetrack...what the heck was the name of those shows ? [/ QUOTE ] Are you talking about Chevy/VetteFest back when it was held there in 1983-84 & then the Fire forced it outside in 1985? Re: Yenko Aluminum 427?
How about "Chicago on Wheels" 1981 and "Speed and Custom" 1984. That is what the trophy plaques say.

Re: Yenko Aluminum 427?

More ZL-1 info from Schonye:

Re: Yenko Aluminum 427?
So can anyone shed any light on that Yenko ZL1 paperwork ? Is this a made up car or what ? Cool if it is real...

Re: Yenko Aluminum 427?
"Don Yenko Chevrolet on 573 West Price Street in Cannonsburg PA?" Nah, thats not a homemade window sticker. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bs.gif
btw, the dealership was on West PIKE street, and the correct speelling is Canonsburg, not Cannonsburg...oh and the dealership was called Yenko Chevrolet, not Don Yenko Chevrolet. |
Re: Yenko Aluminum 427?
LOL...I was looking at the other sticker..
|
Re: Yenko Aluminum 427?
Lost in translation?...BKH
|
Re: Yenko Aluminum 427?
I was thinking that the "Yenko ZL-1" window sticker looked too good. It reads as if the person who typed it was trying hard to be specific, as if he (she) were trying to talk directly to (to influence) a show judge or a prospective buyer.
I guess I'm being too cynical. People really don't pump-up their car's value with false/faked information do they? BUT--if it's real then that's pretty cool. |

This one shows a gentleman named Bill Smith who gave me a tour of the new Yenko facility in July 1981. He seemed to be the person responsible for the high performance piece of Yenko.

Re: Yenko Aluminum 427?
Breaking news ? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif
My dear high performance friend, Hans (ZL-1) Olsson, found an interesting article in one of my old magazines tonight. It was in the -86 Winter-issue of Chevrolet High Performance (Hot Rod Magazine). The author Jerry Heasley talks about Vince Emme and Bill Smith (YenkoŽs high-performanceparts manager)and states that "Yenko acquired this tooling in -76". The ZL-1 tooling, that is. IŽll try to scan this properly, in a few days. Anders |
Re: Yenko Aluminum 427?
I was under the thought that Reynolds and Winters produced these? Winter's is the obvious one! but, where did Reynolds get into this?? On the Can-Am Chaparral & McLaren cars, and maybe GM team cars, where were those blocks produced?https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif
