Re: Heater Delete Plate

Is there a proper position in our hobby on repoping these? I had the die's( 2 plates-no dash ) made years ago and have them down at my machinist's shop...I have never offered them to be made for sale but we use these in our NHRA cars out here.... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Re: Heater Delete Plate

I dont know if its proper but I am installing my set on a race car. I can see your concern for the cloners out there using repoped parts and passing them off as real ones. I guess buyer beware and do your homework before you purchase a car with a heater delete. I think Charley had mentioned that heater delete plates only came on cars that were exported from the lower 48 States and if you wanted to delete your heater you had to purchase the parts at the dealer. Re: Heater Delete Plate

67 all build dates could have received the Heater delete plates and it was on the cowl tag as well. On the trim tag it would be Option group 2H.

68's up until Jan of 68 could have received them. Anything from Jan 68 for the Model Years 68/69 to get them it would have had to been an export car. Keep in mind though the dealers could still sell them over the counter and they could install them. Export meaning anywhere outside the lower 48 states.

Re: Heater Delete Plate

I don't think there are too many "Real" cars that don't have some reproduction parts on them. That's not a "clone only" phenomenon. I doubt that repop heater delete plates will have much of an impact on the proliferation of clones.

Re: Heater Delete Plate

Only impact I see them having is the costs of the GM plates will drop and the days of the $1000 heater delete plates will stop

Re: Heater Delete Plate

But do they repro the dash plastic heater delete piece? That's what runs up the price of a full set. I have a full set I bought a few years ago to put on my JL8 along with a crossram setup, Minilite wheels, Stahl headers, TI setup to replicate a TransAm car.

Re: Heater Delete Plate

As far as I know no dash plates have be repod as of yet. I have a 3 complete sets 2 for 67/68 and one for a 69 Dash plates included. 67/68 go with cars and the 69's will also.

Re: Heater Delete Plate

Actually they do repop the interior plate as well. Its made out of molded plastic and the only way to tell is off the car. The back side of the piece looks like s--t but the front side is perfect.

I know of somebody else who is in the middle of reproducing the '67-'68 dash plate. Looks nice and smooth on the back. It will look correct in the car but is not meant to be passed off as an original. Off the car you will be able to see the differences between it and an original. Speaking of originals, here's a photo of the interior of my '67 Z with radio and heater delete. I bought it from the original owner and have the docs to prove it came that way.

hey Jon is that a shoulder belt dangling in the pic?? very cool not many of them in '67.

Bud.

Re: Heater Delete Plate

Bud,

Yeah, the car has the shoulder belts. Also, is supposed to be a headrest car. The cowl tag and window sticker shows it but the factory screwed up. The headrests got delivered with the car but no slot in the seats to put them in. On the dealership paperwork, there is a credit for lack of headrests. All this confirmed by original owner. There are a few other goof ups such as chrome windshield pillar posts but no chrome on pedal pads. Interior chrome package was not ordered either. I attribute the goof ups to the car being only 50 some-odd cars from the end of production and just using up the last bits and pieces.

Hey rpoz11! We need more class racers around this board! What/where you run?

Re: Heater Delete Plate

As for the delete plate dies we have, they are 100% exact with plasma cutting on the ends to match the factory finish. You can't tell these from original GM! I dont sell these though and are only used on local west coast circuit cars in SS/A on through. Best interest in these were to reduce weight by removing the heater core assembly-etc. I bought a complete set back in the late 80's and tooled the dies from original equipment. We considered an Aluminum copy of the dash plate(69) and then anodize it Black but there wasnt enough call to do that. I do not intend on misleading these at all and are not on any street cars or resto's. (these are not for sale by the way...). I was just wondering what the Board here would respond on this; I had tossed it around in my head for a while whether I should communicate this at all. I hope no one is angered over any of this... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Re: Heater Delete Plate

Im my opinon you did good. Not trying to fake something is admriable and I wish more guys were like that. There are just too many con artists and fast buck counterfeters out there for my taste.

I see nothing wrong with making them and selling some just as long as you add a very distintive marking or a reinforcing circle to the part that can't be filed off so that it could never be converted to look like a original. I am sure that there is a market for some of those for guys that are racing and you might recover some of your cost to make the dies in the first place.

396L35 02-22-2004 06:57 PM

Re: Heater Delete Plate

I have to agree with you Larry on that, there is always someone out there that is a con artist. I would have liked to have an original set for my race car, but I cant see spending that money on covers that nobody is going to see. I can use that money somewhere else like horsepower. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif
