Hey Motown....

Whatever was the end result with te guy who has the Yenko rotting away in his yard? Did you ever get in contact with him? What is his rationale for keeping the car? Is it just the ole 'I got it.. you want it.. so you can't have it' ?
Curious....

Bill,
Short of Grand Theft I dont believe it possible for anyone to purchase the car. The reasoning behind it not being for sale at any price by any method is anybodys guess. As for rational as to why, possibly this car is the only method of attention the owner gets, could also be a sentimental reason, or maybe a title problem through a lein or divorce. Whatever the reason, a piece of american muscle car history is wasting away to nothing through stupidity. A true tragedy without a solution. The owner has been offered far more then the car is worth in it's present condition, only in an effort to save it from total deteriation. Good luck to anyone else that takes a stab at it.

Wow! Motown, you were so positive about a year ago that 'others just hadn't taken the right approach'. We were all counting on you. Now, you say it can't be done, it's a sad day indeed.

I think this is "the approach" the guy with that yenko takes to anyone looking to buy it. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif

Its the same 'ole story I've personaly seen for years. Although not Yankos as in Matts' case, I've seen very original, desirable cars rot away. The red-neck owner thought he had a 'Gold Mine', only to see it turn into dust in a old tobacco warehouse.

Such a waste!!!

Maybe we can all pitch in a buck and send the guy a car cover...What is his reason for not selling the car? what possible line of Bullshit could he actually have for not selling or restoring the car...Its like having a stack of gold bars sitting in your yard but your either too lazy or too stupid to pick them up..

Maybe we can stop by and offer to take the car to get washed and an oil change. Some of those oil changes are pretty tricky and it could take 15 or 20 years to make sure its done correctly.. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif

Norm,
I had suggested using the Tony Soprano tactic awhile back, that I didnt try, many board members here frowned upon the idea, which I have to agree with in most cases since American Freedom would mean this nut can do whatever he wants with "his" car, although I still find it ludicrous.

Gotta Agree. No matter how much it sucks, this is america and if the guy wants to let big money sit and rot.........
What about the museum approach, or one of you guys surely knows someone at a "super chevy" type mag that might be able to make him a offer. Evryone wants to be a star sorta thing. Give him his 15min of fame. Who knows what his buttons are, but if you find the right one, this car can get back into circulation.......

Re: Hey Motown....

Motown,

Did you ever get to talk to the owner directly via phone or face to face? I am curious what kind of a guy he is... who knows maybe this car has some great sentimental value to him...

Do we have a VIN on this car? What is the history on it? I think someone with a restored Yenko should drive over to his house in the spring to show him what his car used to look like and to say hi to him. (and maybe bring along a six pack!!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif) And do it in a friendly manner not trying to push the guy around about selling his car. Just to talk cars, hell the guy has a Yenko! He has to like cars!!!

Would love to know the story behind this one..... Motown... were you able to get any history on it?

I have to agree with previous statements... this is America and if someone wants to let a rare historic car rot in his yard it is his right... but maybe it would be possible to get the guy excited about cars/his car again and then maybe then he would want to save it or just keep it from rotting away...

This story needs a happy ending!!!!!! (if I lived by there I would have to take a drive by and say hi.... what the hell..)

Re: Hey Motown....

This guy will talk to you all day about anything until the car is mentioned....then he refuses to discuss it and walks away. Possibly this belonged to one of his kids who did not return home from a war or other unfortunate circumstance. It has to be a meaningful to him reason, it's not like he is putting up with $1500 offers on this car, he has been offered 60K that I am aware of, and I believe at least that much on another occasion. He has his feet dug in on this one guys, I dislike the situation as much as anyone, but what the heck are we supposed to do?

I have one of those situations in my area too. Not quite the same value on the car but a shame none the less. Sitting right along a four lane highway, in a guys yard, is a 69 Biscayne 427-425 4sp two door. Been rotting away since back in the 70's. I know he's been pestered to sell it. He went so far as to toss a canvas cover on it and stick a NOT for sale sign on it. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif

Re: Hey Motown....

You should hear all the legends about the '68 GT500 KR 4-speed convertible in my area. Still in a tiny rundown garage covered in dust. I looked at it about ten years ago. I'll bet Shelby collectors are hiring witch doctors to put a curse on the old guy who owns it. The guy has got to be in his 80’s now. All the collectors are waiting like spiders for the guy to die.

Re: Hey Motown....

This crazyness has been going on forever. Back in the eighties I located the Cranberry Red Deuce that is in the vintage photo section of this site with primer stripes. It was in the hands of the original owner and had been sitting for ten years. I tried off and on for several years trying to buy the car, had the door slammed in my face enough that I gave up, but I told a friend of mine about the car who by coincedence lived several miles away from it's location. He showed up on the guys doorstep at least once a week for several months until the owner got so tired of being bugged he sold my friend the car for.....now get this....$1800. I immediately bought the car from my friend for $2500, had intentions of restoring it and contacted Don Yenko and got the last two sets of NOS black stripes he had, only after giving Don the VIN to verify it was a real car, which I now find interesting that in the mid eighties Don was already concerned about clones. I sold the car back to my friend six months later, with one set of stripes, he then sold it to someone in Dexter Michigan for I believe 5K, that is when the vintage photo was taken, that person had it for awhile and placed it in Hemmings for 14K, it went to the current owner in Ohio and is currently undergoing a restoration which is in the better part of five years I believe. That owner will not consider selling at this point but I do have first right of refusal. I have an original set of 3M stripes in a box marked Yenko as a reminder to my stupidity at letting it go. Moral of this story, I did not belive the car to be for sale way back when, I guess my friend was more persistent or more of a pest (Vern B., you know who I am talking about), at any rate, maybe this Wisconsen Yenko just needs someone to camp out next door to this guy and not go away. No matter how hard anyone including me has tried, apparently it wasnt hard enough. May the most persistent or pestistent person aquire this car and do the whole hobby a favor.
