You couldn't have a better person (Charley Lillard) trying to help you. Also the ethical thing would not be selling the car on ebay until the real facts are discovered, unless you disclose the uncertainty to the bidders so they are honestly informed. My .02.

What info are you referring to? If you sent good pictures of the documentation to people on this site, some of them can definitely help determine if the documentation is legit or not. But see what Charley can do to help you out.

I just had a conversation with Tim, the owner of the Car. He seems like a decent guy and really does want to figure out exactly what he has. He is in Wisconsin and the car and paperwork are in Florida. He had gone back there and took the protecto plate pic but didn't realize it was too small to read. Until he can get back there he can't provide any paperwork. It might be a Month from now. He doesn't know much about COPO's so the things that ring wrong to us don't mean a thing to him. It might be a Dana car or it might be something made up but if somebody was making a fake car I don't think they would build it like they did. He will let me know when he gets to the paperwork so in the mean time can we cut him some slack please. He does want to sell the car but I told him the only way to get any Supercar type money out of it is to provide the paperwork. I am not trying to beat anybody to the car. If someone wants to offer him Money for the car they might consider it contingent on the paperwork. It would be neat if it was real. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/Charley.gif

Re: WANTED ( CAR DETECTIVE)ON 68 CAMARO

So is the car still for sale on Ebay or are you going to wait until you can check the documentation again? I would think that you would stop the auction until you can have someone knowledgable check the documentation. If you let the auction go, somebody will have the legal right to the car at the price it ends at.

didnt Kurt S state here that he checked and the car was not real my bet is he is right

Charley Lillard 01-03-2004 01:39 AM

Re: WANTED ( CAR DETECTIVE)ON 68 CAMARO

I think Kurts statment was in regards to it being a 427 Copo. That doesn't mean it can't be a Dana converted car.

OK folks, its a new year and lets see what WE CAN find out about this car. Total of 4 different threads were going dealing with the same car so I decided to lock the others and keep this one open with dana man requests for help.

Re: WANTED ( CAR DETECTIVE)ON 68 CAMARO

In my opinion this site can only help you, not hurt you. I'm pretty sure you bought the car at FAR below SUPERCAR prices. Assuming that, if the car is not real then you have a neat car that is probably fun and worth what you paid and you gained valueable knowledge about these cars, no money lost. Assuming on the other hand, this site and the many great people here help you document a car that is far more valueable than you anticipated then everybody wins - you have a valueable car, the buyer gets a valueable car, the car community gets another great car, the restorers get business from restoring the car, and it is one more great car that someone will own and share. That is what it's about. Alot of the SUPERCARS change hands from time to time. So multiple people get joy over owning the same car. I honestly hope it turns out to be what you say the car is.

Re: WANTED ( CAR DETECTIVE)ON 68 CAMARO

I don't even have a real feel for what it is but from my conversation with Dana-Man I don't think he has made this stuff up to try and scam anybody. That does not mean that the paperwork he was given with the car is real. We just gotta wait and see.....But then again I tend to trust most of you Jerks out there and look where that gets me... wearing a Monkey Face in a POS Belair..

Stuart Adams 01-03-2004 03:38 AM

Belair I think he is talking about that awseome car with the Ronald McDonald twins in the car after eating a gut burger. I'm not sure so maybe you should repost the picture to find out.

I don't think there are any documented 69 427 COPO Camaros built in CA found yet never mind a 68

According to the COPO.com website there is a single 69 COPO Camaro from LA. ====> L531088 Clippenger Chevrolet Covina, CA, Burnished Brown, Chip G

Re: WANTED ( CAR DETECTIVE)ON 68 CAMARO

Not to step on toes here but what about this link that was posted a few days ago about this car? It is the very same car on ebay and seems to have been built up.
The asking price on the website was only $18,555/offer plus the dealer is in Wisconsin. Looks like it was sold there as well.

If I was a bidder on ebay with a $30K plus bid on this car and found this link I would be very, very unhappy.
You make the call.

Re: WANTED ( CAR DETECTIVE)ON 68 CAMARO

What the guy paid for the car is irrelevant. It doesn't matter if he paid a dollar or a hundred thousand, it's worth what someone will pay.
If I were high bidder at $30k, and it turned out to be a Dana converted car, I'd be real happy, regardless of what he paid.

I agree 100%. There is nothing wrong with buying a car and selling it for more than you paid. And as stated, if it does turn out to be a documented Dana car, the only one who should be upset is the dealer who sold it for 18K. If it turns out to be a put-together car, well then thats a different story all together... I for one am anxiously awaiting the outcome of this mystery paperwork saga.

I was just giving my opinion on this car and like I said if I was the high bidder and found a link with the same car for sale at a third of what it is now I would be very cautious.
It would have been a lot less trouble and naming calling if the seller had done his homework before he started this mess!
Why not call the dealer where it originally came from? Has anybody done that? It seems strange that the dealer who deals in muscle cars wouldn't know it was a COPO.

The paperwork will have the cars serial # on it. If the paperwork appears real then you can tie it to the car by the serial # on the car. They are throwing BS at you because they have yet to see any paperwork. Please just let us keep this calm until there is something to see.
