Re: #'s matching 427 Nova ???????????
The car is obviously not a factory 427 car but could be a 427 transplant from the dealer. Could be something depending on where the car was sold new.

Re: #'s matching 427 Nova ???????????
-----942 block would have to be non-original as they were superceded by 351 blocks very late in 66,and the car is a 69.........Bill S

Re: #'s matching 427 Nova ???????????
942 block is 66 corvette 427

Re: #'s matching 427 Nova ???????????
After that ZL1 Nova Kim owned, I am convinced he would know an original 427 Nova.

Re: #'s matching 427 Nova ???????????
An original 427 Nova? Sounds like a contradiction in terms!
|
Re: #'s matching 427 Nova ???????????
The Nova I did owned was a 427 converted Gibb done at Dick Harrell it is the sister car to Ray Morrison's Both were blue and 3 cars from each other. It was a L72 motor not a ZL-1 Kim

Re: #'s matching 427 Nova ???????????

Re: #'s matching 427 Nova ???????????
wouldn't a square port hi po l72 engine have an aluminum intake from the factory.. says the original comes with the car and if that is it in front of the hood it looks like cast iron to me..
|
Re: #'s matching 427 Nova ???????????
The l-72 would have alum intake. This guy is full of

Re: #'s matching 427 Nova ???????????
Sorry Kim... I meant L-72 not ZL1. I have an L-72 in my Corvette. Yes it has square port heads and yes it has an aluminum intake.

Re: #'s matching 427 Nova ???????????
Apparently the gentleman selling this car didn't appreciate all of the friendly input he was getting from those "In the Know".
He's added some commentary to the ad about what he wants to hear in the phone calls and the cars possible value, etc... Keep up the good work guys. No one wants to buy a piece of ?!@#$. Blair |
Re: #'s matching 427 Nova ???????????
I can only imagine the responses you received Kim!

Re: #'s matching 427 Nova ???????????
That's a new one. It's not a Yanko, it's a COPOC. Or maybe just a POC?

Re: #'s matching 427 Nova ???????????
Marlin,I sent him a E-mail it stated "sorry they never made a 427 Nova from the factory" His answer, I quote " well your wrong this was dealer installed bb car . and weretrying right now to make outthe dealship that did this conversion . the car has a metal tag on the rear of the trunk lid from some performance dealership in oaklahoma so if your done being a di-- f--- you ashhole" his exact words I again sent him a e-mail very nice saying there are no factory 427 nova's and his answer "but i guess its easier for you to sys you stuid comment via email rather that in someone face chickens---!! " Take it from there! Kim

Re: #'s matching 427 Nova ???????????
Hey guys, sorry to bust your bubbles, but this car may be legit. I have been helping them reseach the dealer listed on the metal tag. Seems there was/is such a dealer in OK selling hi-performance cars.
I believe the performance dealer he is speaking of is "Dennis Tuttle Inc." |
Re: #'s matching 427 Nova ???????????
YA YA I remember that dealer TUTTLE'S TOP TERRORS

Re: #'s matching 427 Nova ???????????
Kim, what a profound response from the seller, amazing!

Re: #'s matching 427 Nova ???????????
I have lived in Tulsa all my life and have been very active in the car business and have never heard of Dennis Tuttle INC. Where were they located. I have a lot of contacts if it is in this part of the state. If I can be of any help let me know?
|
Re: #'s matching 427 Nova ???????????
I just had to ask. Emailed him about taking a pic of the metal tag. Here is what he said.
"the only thing left is the 2 cast studs that are still in the trunk lid. this cae can be driveb or inspected at any time with at least on days notice" I guess you "cant make it out" when the tag is missing. |
Re: #'s matching 427 Nova ???????????
The news on the car from stevesnovasite is that the auction was stoped, and according to Todd, the guy selling the car, it was sold to a collector for an undisclosed amount of money.
If this turns out to be something, there may not be enough crow to go around. Schonye |
Re: #'s matching 427 Nova ???????????
Ken I never said it wasn't "something". I stated it wasn't a factory 427. The car probably is 396 car and sounded like a very good body.

Re: #'s matching 427 Nova ???????????
How did this car end up in the "memorabilia and parts for sale" section anyhow? Maybe someone thought it would be a good parts car?

Here is a link from the Nova site of photos of this car. Looks like it had a dealer emblem on the trunk deck as well as the rear tail panel trim. Motown |
Re: #'s matching 427 Nova ???????????
Looks like all that is missing from the tail panel is the SS emblem.
|
Re: #'s matching 427 Nova ???????????
I try to stay open minded when old racecars are offered for sale. If this fellow has owned it for so many years, at least we know its not a clone of something. Who knows, maybe it's just a Dick Harrell modified '69 427 conversion.
|
Re: #'s matching 427 Nova ???????????
Tom,
The SS emblem makes sense, I am not that aware of the emblem placement on the Nova's, car looks like someones home conversion, maybe a big block car to start with, can anyone tell from the photos if it has the big block core support? Motown |
Re: #'s matching 427 Nova ???????????
It does look to have a big block radiator core support, but is hard to tell if that is totally true, or just a HD cooling unit from a 73/74, but does look to have the larger opening. So at least it looks to be a possible BB nova from the factory, maybe more after it left, and before it was sold? I would love to find out who bought it and what he/she knows
|
Re: #'s matching 427 Nova ???????????
The car was a SS. It looks to be a BB car also. Ken if this was a HARRELL conv. or any other 427 Conv why the 1966 block ?? That's my story and sticking with it.
