72 motion article
Does anyone have this article? I can't enlarge the photos enough to read it and wasn't the high bidder for this magazine. It is April 1972 Hi-Performance Cars.

Re: 72 motion article
I saw that issue at the Englishtown NJ Swapmeet last weekend and I didn't buy it. What was I thinking? Oh yeah, now I remember....didn't have the $8 cause I spent all my money on a Goodmark 70 Chevelle Conv 1/4 panel. Expensive but real quality panel. Re: 72 motion article
The E-bay write up states it is A road test on the 72 Motion Chevelle and that is the first I have seen for this year and would like to read it myself. It looks to be an interesting article.

Re: 72 motion article
I don't have a scanner but if I can take a good enough quality digital pic of it I'll email you the article when I get home from work. I'll try to remind myself

Thanks, Neat article. I like the high stance the car had. I wonder if that car is still around.

Re: 72 motion article
Does anyone know any history on that Chevelle? Where it's at? What happened to it? Is it still alive?? That is one bad and unique Chevelle.

Re: 72 motion article
Rick do you know if that Chevelle is still around??? I remember someone saying that there was a black Motion Chevelle sitting in some trailer somewhere. Is this it or was that a 70? I LOVE the stance on that bad boy!! I am about half way there! All I need is to up my rear tire size from L60X15 to N60X15 (is that the size of those Motion tires?) and pump my Gabriel Hi Jackers up a few more inches!! Maybe I could get some side pipes...........

Re: 72 motion article
Hychev
The rear tires on the Motion Chevelle above are L-60-15 on 15x8.5 aluminum slots. N50-15's did not come out until late in '73. I have a set of Ansen 15x8.5 sprints in the forsale section. Dave |
Re: 72 motion article
Quote from the 454ZLX Chevelle article:
"The wheels and tires on the car at the time of the test, were not the ones the owner ordered. On order was a set of reversed-chromed Cragar S/S mags, which should really work with the chromed exhaust system." "The only problem was we had to pump up the rear air shocks (70psi) for adequate tire clearance. The tires on the car were borrowed from a Mako Shark Corvette, and were too Big for the Chevelle.Because the car was jacked up the way it was,off the line traction left a lot to be desired." |

[/ QUOTE ] Ed - I agree with you even if I'm sensing some sarcasm...I have black Thrush sidepipes on my '69 Camaro and my girlfriend has Hooker sidepipes on her '65 vette that look like the ones on the '72 Motion Chevelle except they are painted black. I think side pipes look tits (pardon my French)....as soon as I find some pics of my Camaro that are small enough I'll post them for the "large" percentage of those of you who like sidepipes. For now here's the Vette...... |

Here's the Camaro.....don't give me any crap about the Mopar stripe on the side of the car - give me a break, a kid who buys a '69 Camaro the day after he gets his drivers license doesn't care about what kind of stripe is on it, just that it's a cool car (it is my first car ever - the car has lasted a lot longer than any girlfriend and there's a couple good reasons for that!)....a repaint is in the very near future and no I didn't put the curb marks on the tires - I had just bought the rims and wanted to see how they looked.... Re: 72 motion article
Thanks again bbdon, your scans are always superb! (I've always loved that firebird article).
Fashion Police: Frank - Don't mess w/ that ride, it looks perfect. Fred - Your girlfriends vette looks "just sick" w/ those Hooker pipes (current POSITIVE slang for "tits")....I think Bad is still good too. -Yours look too short...I'd can em on the Camaro. my $.02 and a good excuse to use my favorite new 'emoticon' -Mark Holman |
Re: 72 motion article
Fred
The slots, traction bars and hood look great on your car. I like sidepipes but not the ones on your car. The Hooker 4 into one type like on your corvette would look great however in chrome. Hooker is still making them. |
Re: 72 motion article
Is this the one of one Galen Govier certified Cudamaro? (I couldn't resist)
Cool Pics |
Re: 72 motion article
Its just me but they belong on Vette's, have yet to see a set on a Steel car that looked nice, Not slamming anyone just my 2cents.

Re: 72 motion article
Fred I actually do like side pipes. There is an old tire shop that is in Cicero IL right where I grew up and the owners have 4 old cars in the showroom that have been there since I can remember. The guy has like a 68 Mustang that is "day 2" actually from back then complete with the chrome side pipes, fat rear slots with the M/T Indy profile tires that are originals not repops, 4 speed with hurst t-handle shifter, and he has the car painted like a Competition Orange color. The license plates that are on the car were last registered I think in 1980. I will have to go back and take some pics. The place is really cool and is like you are back in time.
That was my influence for the side pipes and if my car wasn't so original I would really put them on! BTW I like the pic of your Camaro! |
Re: 72 motion article
no sarcasm intended. Just like sidepipes
  |
Re: 72 motion article
I agree about the pipes - I'm not easily offended...the pipes on my Camaro do need to be replaced with the 4 into 1 Hooker style....that was slated to happen this past summer, however a FAR better project has come my way so most of the funds from my car fund, taking the girlfriend out fund (nothing a pair of shoes she wants can't fix!) and even my "none profit organization - Fred's Beer Fund" have been diverted into this project in order to get it done ASAP....It has to be something special if I put a squeeze on "Fred's Beer Fund".... Re: 72 motion article
OK-- Let me see if I have this straight--He thinks the sidepipes are tits and his girlfriends vette is sick with the Hooker Headers and sick is slang for tits.I just hope in the future I can look at a car with sidepipes without getting aroused. --JoeG
Like to see a picture of your car when your done |
Re: 72 motion article
I have a 16yo, a 17yo, and a 18yo. I asked them yesterday about "tits" as a modern expression. They looked at me like I was crazy.

Re: 72 motion article
Hey Frank - If you want a real vintage look for your Chevelle you should use shag carpet for your headliner and on your dash! (I had an uncle that did that to one of his Chevelles back in the day)... ...if I didn't have my Camaro I'd have a Chevelle just like yours....excellent ride!
Hey Stefano...Nope - it's just a hemicudamaro with a chevy small block in it.... |
Re: 72 motion article
Now Fred if I went with the shag I would resemble my Mexicano brothers even more! Right Ed G (55Chevy)
Thanks for the compliment though! |
