Anson wheels/ Motion hood
This is my first post. I am in the process of restoring a 68 big block vette that has a Motion Phase III kit installed by the original owner. Could anyone tell me the size & backspacing of the Anson wheels that were put on these cars. Also I am in search of a Motion hood. If your wondering this is the rough old car that was at the reunion. I had an wonderful time this is a great bunch of guys.

Re: Anson wheels/ Motion hood
Welcome, I was wondering who's Corvette that was in the parking lot.

Re: Anson wheels/ Motion hood
www.up22.com This site has loads of hoods and fiberglass for all kinds of cars, and should have a phase 3 hood for your corvette.

Re: Anson wheels/ Motion hood

I BOUGHT A NEW 70 CAMARO HOOD FROM THAT COMPANY AND WAS TERRIBLE!!!!! I DON'T RECOMEND THEM AT ALL. KIM

Re: Anson wheels/ Motion hood
Apparently Hot Rod Magazine thinks that their hoods are good enough to go on their project cars. I've likewise seen other people with hoods from the same company (70-81 Camaro), and they look fine to me. For an L-88 style camaro hood, would you rather buy one from Motion for $600, or one from www.up22.com for $220. To me, the choice is obvious. The less expensive one duh!

Re: Anson wheels/ Motion hood
You can still buy directly from Legendary Fiberglass in PA who was one of the original suppliers to Motion.

Re: Anson wheels/ Motion hood
The problem with the UP22 hood is the L-88 hood scoop is too short lengthwise. The front of the scoop starts almost a 1/3 way back from the front of of the hood and just plain does not look right. The L-88 scoop part on the original Motion hood from Legendary starts almost at the leading edge of the hood or at least within an inch or two-and gently curves back. Just like it was back in the day.
I bought an L-88 Nova hood from legendary for $335 at Carlisle and the quality was just about the best I've seen. The reason Hot Rod uses their hoods is UP is a BIG ADVERTISER. It's called scratching the back of the people that pay your bills. Hot Rod would write an article about the stuff that ends up in your toilet and portray it smelling like rose petals if you took out an ad in their mag each month. Have you not noticed the mags anymore are not just one big infomercial for the advertisers??? When was the last time an article said this part fits/works like crap? |
Re: Anson wheels/ Motion hood
do you have a web address or phone # to this place.i have a unlimited hood and it doesn't look like the older L88 hoods

I am not knocking the company Just showing what they offer Kim

Re: Anson wheels/ Motion hood
Wow, that's really good to know. I really didn't think their quality was that bad, and that different from what was offered from other companies. Maybe when I decide to order my hood, it won't be from Unlimited Products. Thanks for the helpful info.

Re: Anson wheels/ Motion hood
I don't think the quality of the Legendary hoods is the highest on the market. I got two hoods with the 87 Motion Monte Carlo and the used one is cracked around the hood latch area. The bottom of the hood has a thin plastic panel that is bonded to the top panel. It does not look strong enough to hold down the hood unless hood pins are used. The second hood is new and made the same way.

I did not mean the L-88 hood from Legendary is the best quality available, just that out of all the hoods I've seen from them the one I received is the best one I've seen them make. I think Hardwood makes the best quality hood of all the manufactures. The L-88 Nova hood I rec. from legendary fits great, is not wavy and the underside's fit and finish is some of the best work I've seen on any hood. The cosmic tumblers at legendary must have all been aligned that day. I do have to say the L-88 Vega hood I bought from them was crap. Wavy, cut to short and the hood hinge bolt holes were crooked. I have yet to hear any good comments about th stuff from Unlimited. |
Re: Anson wheels/ Motion hood
I think that most all fiberglass parts need some "masaging" to get them to fit right. I ordered an IROC valence from www.usbody.com , and it wasn't quite as straight as the original, and seemed like it was formed crooked. It looks really good though, as it seemed to straighten out when i bolted it down tight. Just goes to show you that aftermarket parts aren't always the way to go. What I'd really like to do is to get a steel L-88 hood, but i don't know anyone who makes them. I'd definitely prefer steel over fiberglass. Does anyone know if they make steel L-88 hoods?

Re: Anson wheels/ Motion hood
does legendary fiberglass have a website ,how about a pic of there L88 hood.my unlimited hood is okay except for the leading edge of it were it contacts the header panel.in that area it's at least 3/8th" or more higher than the header panel.what about motion hoods are they still available ,i heard they're quite pricey but are the real deal.one thing thoug about unlimited is there hood scoops very nice reproductions of classic style scoops like the stinger and the old style mopar pro-stock scoop offered in many sizes but all for $50.00 . i don't know of any other fiberglass co. that makes classic ,old school scoops like unlimited

Re: Anson wheels/ Motion hood
I just got off the phone with Legendary as they agreed to make the special Phase III rear wing for my 69 BM Camaro that I am restoring. I think his name is Larry and is the owner. Anyway, he mentioned they had made a special prototype hood for GMMG for the new Berger/Motion Camaro that has been talked about elsewhere on the board and that they had made the hoods for the SLP Firehawk cars.
|
Re: Anson wheels/ Motion hood
Kind of ironic that you mentioned the special hood they built for the new Motion Camaro. One of the things that upset Joel Rosen about he Motion project being shelved, was this hood, as he "called in a couple of favors" to get this Motion type hood built for 2002 Camaros.
All for naught. |
Re: Anson wheels/ Motion hood
Legendary told me they built the hood in one day and overnighted it to GMMG. Apparently the prototype car was supposed to be at the Reunion.

Re: Anson wheels/ Motion hood
A lot of us spent a lot of money and time on this project. I built a 427 prototype car, ordered a supercharger, painted a car and ordered and paid for two hoods, ground affects, etc, and ordered a lot of stuff that wont be used, so please dont push this issue any further. Re: Anson wheels/ Motion hood
Thank you for this iformation. I spoke with Larry Williams who has owned & operated Legendary Fiberglass for over 30 years. He was very friendly & said that he was the original & only supplier of the Corvette Phase III hood to Motion. He still has the mold & agreed to supply a hood at a very reasonable price.
I will let you know about the quality when I receive it in 4-6 weeks. They do not have a websight. |
Re: Anson wheels/ Motion hood
Do you know anyone who's interested in a 1973 RS Z28 Camaro. It has a newly rebuilt 1969 corvette 350 4 bolt main. I have a newer edelbrock intake to match the cam. I also have a holley 750 cfm carb. This car is straight it needs paint and interior. There is no rust on this car. I need to put the intake and carb on and buy new tansmission lines, the tranny is a newly rebuit two speed power glide with a B&M ratchet shifter and shift kit. The seats and dash are great the seat pads are great but they need to be covered. Also this car has all of it's chrome and it is in new condition. The rear end is a chevy 12 bolt Posi with 373 gears. This cars engine compartment is spotless and the shocks are air adjustable. This car has traction bars and a lot of engine and body chrome, oh yeah it has the original rear spoiler and an L88 Hood. My camaro is a looker! I want $3000 or trade of the same value. Please pass the word along! I also have a 64 Capri, 73 Silvarado Mud truck, 55 Chevy Bel Air Post, 195? Hudson Hornet, 65 chevy fire truck with a new 572 Big block, 51 Willys 2WD pickup with a 383, 77 Nova stock car, and i need a couple of sports quads the year of the quad doesn't matter but they have to be fast!

[/ QUOTE ] Matt, not for sure what me being the owner of the site has to do with what I posted. If I misquoted Joel or, if you feel what Joel told me was in error, all you needed to do was simply make a reply telling "your side". No need to bash. As per how much time and $$$ you, and others, spent on the project, I have no doubt you are telling the truth. In fact, that is what still puzzles me, with that much invested, time and $$$, why the decision by GMMG to pull the plug? |
