The current "scoop" on the web site
Well, as many of you know, this web site has had a few techinical difficulties as of late. For the past week, we've been without email, our forum has gone down TWICE and been contaminated once, our counter quit functioning, and worst of all, the tech support at our ISP took their phones off the hook!
Well, I finally got through on the phone, but I got an automated response, that said they are resolving some problems, and won't return to answering the phones until they are finished! But, they provided a web address to some admin pages that could clear up some of the problems. Well, the only problem is, they've changed everyones password, so those admin pages are useless. I honestly thought our site was the only one experiencing problems until I visited my ISP's forum, and found out that their are literally THOUSANDS of other websites going through the same thing, and worse. Just imagine the sites that are trying to run a business but can't access their email or online stores?! Anyway, they are switching servers, and upgrading their site's software, but are having some MAJOR problems...bad enough the CEO has issued several "apologies" online hoping to remedy part of the complaints. So, bear with us, as I'm hoping this thing is straightened out ASAP... |

Re: The current "scoop" on the web site
Upgrades can be very painful nowadays. It appears that most companies don't know what "testing" really involves and they just wing it. Hopefully, they'll get it worked out soon.

Re: The current "scoop" on the web site
Hey Rob, I think we all greatly appreciate your work on this site..thx for the update. As someone who maintains a few computers for local businesses, I understand their frustration and yours. Hang in there man...we'll be here behind you.

Re: The current "scoop" on the web site
I agree, Ed. All was well, until they decided to switch servers and subsequently upgrade to newer software. Now, all of their clients are complaining of loss of service. Sadly, a lot of them are online merchants and their online stores have been down for over a week!
They still have 1 more batch of sites to convert, so it may be a while before they get this all sorted out... |
Re: The current "scoop" on the web site
Well, for now our email is back up and running. I say for now, because they still have some more sites to switch over, so who knows what else will happen. But, it's starting to look up...

Re: The current "scoop" on the web site
I wish that all the others on here were the same width as this one. Some of them go off the screen to the right where I can't read the last word or two. The scroll control on the bottom will not go far enough to the right to allow me to read the entire sentence. Frustating...!!!

Re: The current "scoop" on the web site
Hmmm...I'd better check that out!
Just curious...do you have your display settings set to 800x600? |
Re: The current "scoop" on the web site

Re: The current "scoop" on the web site
They're in Utah. As of this morning, they have 20 pages just on 1 thread on their forum about web site problems, so we're not alone. A handful of the members are even talking lawsuit. Literally thousands of members sites down...
Edit: now their trouble thread is up to 21 pages... |

Re: The current "scoop" on the web site
Don't look now but the hit counter is working.
|
Re: The current "scoop" on the web site
The counter is "sort of" working! It's counting correctly, but my past attempts to reset it to the correct number have failed. I've even added this month's feature car to the home page yet it won't recognize it. It is showing a distorted version of the correct picture, but the text below it is incorrect as well as the picture dimensions (which is why it looks like crap).
I couldn't even get the info up for the car, because the server dropped me when I was uploading info. Just be glad I got uploaded what I did. My patience is wearing thin... |

Re: The current "scoop" on the web site
IS ANYBODY ELSE HERE???????????!!!!!!!!!! HELP!!!!!
I can not see anybody else on line. Over half of my saved private messages are gone and the site is getting slower and slower! If I didn't have a cable modem I would have not even been able to get on. I hope all of this priceless info is not at risk of being lost. Is there some type of back up for all the threads? Rob give us a sign. Let us know that you are still out there and have not went to the Infopop headquarters and............ |

Re: The current "scoop" on the web site
If this site gets any slower, it will be in the "Watching paint dry category". The hosting company is really shaming themselves with this substandard performance. It really takes the joy out of visiting this site.

Re: The current "scoop" on the web site
Frank, If you have a bunch of info in your PM's, get a screenshot(picture)of each one saved to your hard drive and go through them at your leisure. Here's a small, free screenshot program that's easy to use:
Slick little screen capture program. ...just in case. -Mark |
