Has anyone ever seen an engine and trans VIN stamping that looks like this one? http://www.corvettemike.com/ebay/69grn/numbers.jpg
Just curious, at least they both look the same so that says they came from the same stamp.

I used to own that Car. It is a Good car. Those vin stampings are a good benchmark for what probably should be on other Z's built at that time.... The Code for the JL8 Master Cylinder is on the build sheet.

Clill,
Was that a Common stamp/style used on Van Nuys cars.

Thanks for clearing up the vin stamp Charley. I may have to bid on this car. I noticed the ad states M21 but also lists the tranny as P9xxx'A' for M20. Which is correct?

Re: 1969 JL8 Z/28 on EBay

That is a really odd stamping. the big "4" is open on the top and I've never seen a GM stamp like that. But both the engine and trans have the same stamp so that indicates they were done with the same setup.

Re: 1969 JL8 Z/28 on EBay

I would say M20.

Charley's testimonial is probably the strongest bit of info here, but I do know this car has good, solid local history here in the Seattle area since it was sold new in Kent, WA in 1969. It was known as a JL8 car since before that was such a BIG ($$$) deal. Worst thing you can say about it is the '80s repaint is showing its age-what's there is there and you aren't going to buff it into something better.

Dang it . I missed out on this one. Someone beat me to the Buy It Now price. If I had only known about this sooner I would have done the same thing.

Wow, he dropped the Buy It Now price by $10,000!

I have seen the same type of stampings from that build period. There were 2 cars from VanNuys, at first I thought Restamp, but I know they were untouched cars. This would be the third such Camaro. The stampings, believe it or not, are legit.

Hi, Iíve been watching your website and it is great. Tons of good information from some of the most knowledgeable and respected people! I bought the 69 JL8 Z28. I saw this car for sale a few years ago in the Seattle area and have been kicking myself for not buying it ever since. Thatís where your forum comes in. The post from Charley about having owned this car was all I needed to confirm my thoughts about this car. Thanks for running a great resource for us all. I am looking forward to the All Chevy Show in Seattle. Was planning on bringing the Orange 70 Ω Z28.

Wundercluck,
We look forward to seeing your new Z at the Seattle All Chevy show! If you need some help getting the 70 there, just let me know, you could show both!
When are you coming for tech-in at the hotel, Thursday or Friday?

Gee Thanks but wait till somebody buys one of the many Sucky Cars I have owned. Glad you got the Car Wunderluck. I have owned alot of Cars because I am hooked on The Hunt. Finding and getting a Cool Car is almost as fun as driving them. But unless you have the Worlds deepest pocket you usually end up getting rid of something to keep up the Hunt. I'd be a happy Guy if I could own and drive one of everything before I Die. I just bought a LS6 ElCamino without looking at it and it turned out to be a OK Car.
