Re: build sheet

Ron,
As per my PM to you, what plant was your car built in? Where you found yours was a new one on me. Quite likely because most would never last very long in the elements.

Re: build sheet

Chevelle build sheets have been found literally anywhere in the car. Under the seats is most common place but they have been found in the headliner, under the rug, behind dash, inside the door, inside the fender, etc.

Re: build sheet

Hello JoeC: I was curious about this build sheet business thought I had not seen the question here at the time. There was an interesting answer over at the "COPO CANADA" spot.
Your description sort of reminds me of the scene in the "French Connection" when the Mark III is getting the once over and the subject of rocker panels comes up! Regards

Re: build sheet

JoeC,
I found one build sheet under my rear seat and another build sheet between the top of the gas tank and the trunk floor --'69 Chevelle---even found a piece of the build sheet with the trim code on it under the front seat attached to a spring--JoeG

This part of a build sheet was in our car. The car was built 75 before ours.

Hello KEITH,
Just curious---I can see that build/sheet is printed in English--In the some of the Provinces of Canada --does GM provide build/sheet printed in French?
WHERE -in your car did you find that piece of build/sheet?--and did you find yours?---JoeG

Re: build sheet

Ron,
Baltimore cars quite often have the build sheet attached to the inside of the door panel. Remove the screws on the bottom of the panel and pull it away from the door while shining a light up inside. I have found and heard of them being found in this location on Baltimore cars very often.

Re: build sheet

This piece of build sheet was found in the rear seat back in the springs. I've found nothing else in either of our Baltimore built cars. One was a February car and the other was late July. We were at the Grand Island Northern Chevelle gathering on the weekend and some people had copies of their build sheets on display. I enjoy the history almost as much as the cars themselves.

Found mine partly tucked under the sound deadner sheets under the back seat. My car was Arlington, TX built.

Jim,
as the owner of an Arlington car, you are very lucky to have found any sheet in your car. Seldom did that plant put them in the car.

Re: build sheet

I had a '70 Chevelle SS, Arlington Built car which had the build sheet under the sound deadner, on the drivers side floor pan.

Re: build sheet

They can be found in Arlington car, it is just very rare. Of the 150 plus L78 and LS6 build sheets I have, only 5 came from Arlington. Another plant that seldom threw them in were Flint. Leads and Baltimore are the most common followed by Van Nuys.

Atlantas Lakewood Plant was pretty popular too.
Look on the top of the glovebox, once the pad is removed, and on top of the Radio.
Don't rule out the headliner,or rear package tray shelf either.

My Chevelle is an Arlington built car and I have a build sheet. I am not sure what previous owner found it or where.

Re: build sheet

Back 15 years or so Mark Meeks (Chevelle National club) had put in the monthly magizine that they could no verify weather any LS-6's came from Arlington. I was the first one to send Mark a copy. The only reason that I know this is that Dan from Dated Components and I discussed Mark and the research on the LS-6's and the conversation came up on 1 Arlington build sheet. Kind of nice to know that it helped after all these years.

69RSZ,
Really couldn't see , I was blinded by those Special-Order headlights----which only just goes to show you, that looking for build sheets was not only a good way to gather information on your vehicle, but it also gave you a chance to go over your girlfriends buildsheet code by code. Education is power and code breaking is what it's all about--------- --JoeG
