Charley:
Did you get the opportunity to hear it run? I met Matt at the Super Chevy Show this year in Atlanta and talked with him about the car. He fired it up for a minute or so, and lets just say that it drew some attention. It had no mufflers, only headers, so it sounded awesome! Re: Carlisle pics
Yep... Matt started it a few times...Pretty nasty sounding.
|
Re: Carlisle pics
That was good, especially the one about Jerry M.
Thanks |
Re: Carlisle pics
Matt took Dennis Barker for a ride in the Nova at the Year One grand opening. Nice to see those cars on the road.
|
Re: Carlisle pics
WTF....must have been a very cool show....I'm jealous.
|
Re: Carlisle pics
I believe Matt's Nova is #50, the last one built. 15K miles, original everything. I've got a pic of it hear somewhere from the 1st Gibb show, just after it had been recovered from sitting for 25+ years, untouched. Matt can you give more details.
|
Re: Carlisle pics
Turns out Don Stowers (I think his alias here is L72COPO) won the Bowtie category with a stunning score of 994 (out of 1000) for his 67Z. When they announced his award, they mistakenly announced 944. Attaboy, Don!

Re: Carlisle pics
Wow, I missed some nice cars once again. I need to trade my back in for one with lower miles on it. It has been bothering me all year, but it got real bad Thursday night into Friday so I couldn't have made the 2-1/2 hour drive. I don't know if my JL8 will be done in time for next years show, but we'll see how close it is.

Re: Carlisle pics
don stowers Z28 was awesome, cowl plenum and all.

Re: Carlisle pics
Wow I would love to hear more about Matt M's Nova. Has the window sticker actually been stuck on it from day one? Could Matt or somebody please elaborate a little more about this car? I would love to hear how it was found.

The window sticker is still mostly there. It also had on display a letter from Vince Piggins to NHRA which I think was telling NHRA Chevy is making enough TH400 L78 Novas for Super Stock (50) but will not make enough for stock class (500). Also a letter from Fred Gibb. Cool car see att

Re: Carlisle pics
The right person definetly has this car, Matt will take it to a show, fire it up and people almost run to see what's making all the noise. I was at the Year One open house, inside the office, and Matt came idling by in the Nova and the windows in YO shook similar to an earthquake. The car has the orig. M/T slicks, had a tow bar, and ± 17000 miles, most likely all 1/4 mile at a time! Awesome car.
|
Re: Carlisle pics
Thanks for the kind words about my Nova. It really is a cool car. The window sticker is original, however over the years, the sun has fadded it a bit, but you can still read Fred Gibb Chevrolet and the COPO 9738 option and all the prices and options. The story on the car that I heard is that it was towed to and from tracks around the Missouri area, and that is how the 16,000 miles got on it. The previous owner also told me that there has never been a plate taged to the car. It does still have some very fragile Mickey Thompson Slicks on it and the headers and traction bars are also original. The original electric fuel pump went out on it at Super Chevy, must have been the way Don Garlits was revving the motor , just kidding. We had to give it a repaint and some new interior pieces due to it's second owner parking it outside for some 25 years or so. All the metal is original and the complete drivetrain is original as well. I wish we could figure out if it spent any time at Dick Harrell's shop, because someone did a great job tuning this motor and carb setup. The reason for firing it up is simply because it has to be one of the best sounding cars I have ever heard, at idle and loping around in low gear. I asked Dennis Barker if he wants to go cruzin around at the Year One show, and he said, "Sure, I just wish we had a golf cart." I told him, "What for when you have a COPO, lets ride . . ." Re: Carlisle pics
i've seen the before and after of this car. matt has one cool piece of history. as you can see he enjoys his cars. don't forget fascination(funny car). its nice to see someone that builds the gen IV have such an appreciation for their heritage. ie. motion performance 2002 on the drawing board. Re: Carlisle pics
Matt, I have a vcr tape of your car taken when Tom Simms had just bought the car. I think you will like it. Send me a e-mail with your address, and I will send it to you. Kim

 |
Re: Carlisle pics
Thanks again for the comments about this cool ride. Yes, it will be at the La Harpe Show and the Supercar Reunion, and other shows this summer. These cars stirred some [censored] in the 60's and 70's and it deserves the right to stir it again today
Kim, I got a copy of that tape from Dennis Hartweg and have looked at it many times, and it is amazing that it is the same car, but time and hard work by Bill Garren and others have certainly paid off, and here for a new generation to see and the old generation to remember. I don't think the new GMMG cars would have made the impact they have if it were not for my background in these great Muscle Cars. I have preached for a long time that these new cars have much of the old cars attraction in power and style, it just took someone crazy enough to dream up these ideas and we at GMMG have a lot of people to thank. The Gold RS/Z28 has been showing up at shows around here for the past couple of years. It's an awesome car.

Re: Carlisle pics
Well I have not heard much chit chat about Frank's COPO Camaro. Did we not see it on the lift. Have we seen a FINER restored camaro with that much detail. I can't decide what I like more the top of the car or the underside. I can say with out any doubt that Brian and Joe @ Supercar Workshop with the efforts of Frank Arone @ Arone's Autobody put together the FINEST restorations. Nobody and I mean nobody has matched their QUALITY and TECHNIQUES on any restoration yet. Anybody can make a COOKIE RESTORATION. Now onto the AWESOME SURVIVOR 69 Z-28 that Ken Pascoe had on display for all of us to admire. Words can't express the FINE preservation of this AWESOME Z. It is a rare opportunity to find a TRUE survivor at any level. Well leave it up to Kenny to find one of the BADDEST Z's this year. I expect nobody to hold back and tell me what they think of these FINE examples. The "MOF"

Re: Carlisle pics
Cmon Mayor..Don't hold back.Tell us what you really think of the car?

Re: Carlisle pics
Frank's COPO and Ken's Z/28 are both great cars and I learned a lot by seeing them in the air. It was funny when they went up on the lift, the camara flashes and VCR lights were going like there where supermodels on a runway.
both cars |
