Re: Hooker Headers
Im with Al on this one Sixties. Most everything from the manufacter's are always a bit more expensive. Try Summitt Racing. They have always been one the cheapest IMO.

Re: Hooker Headers
Can I have opinions on what header options I have to use on my 69 Camaro Big Block..I want the Ceramic coating and will have them hooked up to Chambered exhaust....Want them to be good fit without using "hammer".....Thanks, Chuck S/Seattle

Re: Hooker Headers
I havent used headers on a bigblock in a 69 Camaro, but i just recently installed Hooker Super Comp headers on a 69 Z, they fit very well, and if you go for Hooker iŪve heard that they will very well for the Big BlockŪs also.

Re: Hooker Headers
I bought a set of Doug's for my COPO Doug's Headers for GM . You should also check Thorley as well Thorley Headers for GM. Both have been in the business since the 60s. Thorley is the original Yenko supplier, but I had better customer service from Doug's. Both offer ceramic.
At Rob Clary's suggestion, I had them Jet Hot coated instead of ceramic. The sterling finish is pretty to look at (kind of like a bright pewter) and apparently is more durable and has better conductivity than ceramic. They also sell headers (Headman or Hooker, I think). Jet-Hot Coatings |
Re: Hooker Headers
I called Jet Hot and spoke with Todd....They have in stock the Hooker Competetion Header (not the Super Comp) with a 2" primary and 3 1/2" collector. With oval port heads on a 427 engine I was thinking 1 3/4 primarys with 3" collectors would be enough.....Jet Hot wants $467.00 delivered which was more than I anticipated spending....But it seems that the other misc companies add on at least $180.00 for the ceramic coating to their price.......thanks for your additional comments.....Chuck S

Re: Hooker Headers
You won't regret the Jet coating. We've had the ceramic, but the Jet stuff beats it in looks and durability HANDS DOWN. Yeah, they're pricy, but they'll outlast the car.

Re: Hooker Headers
If I remember correctly, my Doug's Headers were over $650 - with the Ceramic coating, for a small block! (going for the old school look!).

Re: Hooker Headers
Chuck, you might consider buying uncoated Hookers from Summit or Jegs, etc. install them on the car, break in the engine and then remove and send to Jet Hot for coating. This would ensure the best durability albeit at considerably more hassle.

Re: Hooker Headers
Marlin, you're right about the price. My Doug's 1 3/4" x 3" were about $950 by the time I got them back from Jet Hot, with both the headers and reducers coated. I think they will be worth it in the end...
Chuck, if you do send Jet Hot new headers, make sure to pull the gaskets and bolts from the box first. Their shop in Arizona misplaced mine for a while, but found them and sent them to me. Very good customer service actually. Also, make sure you tell the header manufacturer you're going to get them Jet Hot coated and they should be able to build them without chrome or ceramic finish. Should save you $30-$50 as Jet-Hot won't have to strip the finish before applying their own. |
