10K for the right to Buy?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2418339025
10,000 will give you the "right to buy at MSRP" This guy has got to be kidding! So he orders one then cant afford to follow through, so sells his option to someone else? I have not seen this tactic since people had to wait three years to get a Harley. A year from now these trucks(if thats what they are) will be everywhere. Just when you think you have seen it all, someone outdoes the entire concept of Lunacy. Re: 10K for the right to Buy?
It is a nice looking vehicle, hope they don't drop a 4 cyl. in it. This is getting to be like salt water fishing , throw some chum [ bloody--bait ] in the water and wait for the feeding/bidding to begin.

Re: 10K for the right to Buy?
Steve, That particular one is one of the first 25 available, actually number 2 produced, I saw #1 about a month ago at the GM tech warehouse, so the one auctioned is the lowest VIN ever available to the public. It and the next 24 are whats called signature series, basically a special edition that is autographed by the GM designers involved. While it too may be overpriced, it would still have considerable value over the standard run of the mill production model after that. In comparison, that would be like the difference between a Berger SS Camaro and a new ZL-1. While they are both speciality vehicles, one has an obvious higher value then the other. I am sure this new vehicle is worth 10K more then MSRP at the moment, I just think it is a bit shady the way this seller in this auction is doing this. But, one the other hand, if someone wants the truck bad enough to knowlingly pay the 10K to this guy in order to get a quick delivery, I guess that falls in the catagory of instant gratification, which we have all had from time to time. Much like the Viper, etc, etc, the truck will be worth most likely more than 10K over MSRP in the beginning, but a few months later that xtra 10K will be down the tubes when they become more available. The first 25 signature series should retain a higher value as being known as a limited production model. You gonna get one Steve? These things would look at home in the Nevada desert.

Re: 10K for the right to Buy?
Ok but you think that these trucksor what ever they call them is realy worth almost 100K more than sticker . I can see it having more value than the rest of the run but like you said Matt the Viper the first ones in 92. They where getting 200K for thoughs and I know a Dealer in Chi that still has one New But he wishes he didn't still own it.
Well people will pay what they think it is worth to them right? So who am I to say it was to much to pay. I sure would have like to been the dealer that sold that one or guy that bought it new than sold it. Not a bad days work! |
Re: 10K for the right to Buy?
Rick, Personally I think that when someone pays a great deal over the invoice amount all it does is add to the inflation hype, which causes attention to be paid to the vehicle, which in turn causes sales. Great marketing stategy. I am sure the marketing people take this into account, that would explain why these speciality vehicles always seem to have a good deal of advertising prior to release, then a few are released to each dealer, enough to cause attention, but somehow production always seems to be lagging behind enough to cause a stir and a rush to own one. A lot of the reason for the inflated prices on the speciality vehicles is the difficulty in obtaining one, people always want what they cant have, and everybody always wants to be the first to own something that is unique and hard to get. Economics 101. Supply low, demand high, inflated cost. Supply high, demand low, drop in cost. Harley inadvertantly used that stategy when overnight Hollywood decided Harleys were it and everybody wanted one, prices soared while they were hard to get because Harley could not produce enough to keep up with the demand. Now that they have caught up and the trend has subsided some, the prices are dropping fast and will continue to do so for some time yet. It will be interesting to see this GM sport truck market in a year or two.

Re: 10K for the right to Buy?
The PT Cruisers were another vehicle to be overpriced due to supply and demand. I bought my 2002 Pt for invoice. Tried to get a used 2001, but the dealer wanted 3,000 over sticker with 14,000 miles on it. His reasoning was it will be a collector car. I think they made over 20,000 cars for 2001 over a year and half period.
All about Supply and Demand. Gotta love it. |

Offered for auction I have the RIGHT TO BUY the second Chevrolet SSR pick-up Kirk Chevrolet recieves. [/ QUOTE ] No telling when or if they will recieve a second one. [ QUOTE ] Your bid here is for the right to buy this vehicle for MSRP. Based on the fact that the initial prices on similar vehicles like the Dodge Viper, Plymouth Prowler, PT Cruiser, BMW Z8, and other similarly limited production vehicles were in some cases selling for OVER TWICE the suggested retail price, several enthusiastsí web sites, (www.ssr.com) are estimating that these trucks will be selling in the same range, nearly TWICE the retail price! [/ QUOTE ] Isn't the Right to buy at MSRP the same a Market adjustment fee. HELLO, McFly anybody home? [ QUOTE ] The SSR you are bidding on here is a NORMAL PRODUCTION VEHICLE, NOT a ěSignature Seriesî [/ QUOTE ] Wanting SIgnature Series price for a Normal production vehicle. And already got 1 bidder. You are going to pay to be different. |
