69 motion hood.....
Can someone tell me who made the hood used on the 69 motion camaro, L88 hood. How do you tell from original or repop? I am going to look at one, and your help would be appreciated. Thanks,Roger

Not even a motion owner here can help?

Re: 69 motion hood.....
Roger, On my '68 MOTION the underside of the hood is very rough and sloppy. I have looked at some restored Motion's and they look too nice so I think maybe they might be reproduction's. My Motion has 10,000 miles and had all the Motion parts when I bought it. Maybe Joe C. might know who made the hoods for Rosen. Mark

Re: 69 motion hood.....
I think Motion owners are willing to help, but there was no real definitive "standard" one style or single manufacturer of Motion hood. I've seen 3 different kinds of Motion hoods. There was the 67 Vette stinger style hood with real rough underside like Mark describes, then another 67 Vette Stinger style hood with more refined underneath framework which is shown in Motion's 69 era Catalog. And then is the 68-69 L88 Vette style hood such as the one that is on the Green ex-Chandler Phase III Camaro.

Re: 69 motion hood.....
In the '69 Motion catalog I just sold the stinger hoods have a "refined" underneath and are made by A&A. I know many of the later hoods were made by Legendary which used to be known as "Fast Glass". Brad Fanshaws Motion Vega has a very rough underside somewhat like the back of a fiberglass tub enclosure. These hoods were made by a chopper gun. Probably close to what Mark Hassetts car is.

Re: 69 motion hood.....
Are the motion L-88 hoods 4 pin, or bolt on with two front hood pins? Thanks,Roger

Re: 69 motion hood.....
How was the hood attached at the hinges? Studs and nuts or bolts as a regular stock hood from factory? This hood is very rough underneath, not very appealing for show quality. Jeff, the hood is off of a car that was wrecked. This is what i was told. I am doing some investigating to see what i can find. The hood came from a car collector in the chicago area, he now lives in kentucky. He had a yenko camaro and other camaro's and sold them off to buy vettes. From what i have learned, it appears to be real. I just got it and have to look it over closer. Roger

Re: 69 motion hood.....
are any of these companies still in business? I have an article of a 69 motion chevelle that has what looks like a 69 SS hood with a stinger scoop molded into it. I would like to purchase 1 if they are still available. thanx

Re: 69 motion hood.....
Legendary is still in business. They are located in PA. I recently bought a stinger hood from them for my 69 Motion Camaro.

Re: 69 motion hood.....
I looked at my hood some more. The bottom was painted black, paint chips off in places. The fiberglass is a pea green color. Is that accurate with an original hood? Roger

Re: 69 motion hood.....
Roger, The color of the fiberglass is actually a combination of the color of gelcoat and the color of the resin used. Most of these hoods were done with black, lt grey, or dk grey gelcoat and then clear or amber colored resin was used to bond the fiberglass mat together. Also most of the time a colored MEKP (hardner) was used so that you could tell if the batch of resin you were using was "kicked" or not. That will also change the color of the resin. I would not go by the color of any of these things as a guide. Check your email as I have given a better description for you there.................RatPack................

Re: 69 motion hood.....
There were many companies making fiberglass parts in the 60s and 70s and most of them didn't put any ID on them but a few did. I have a 67-69 Camaro deck lid made by A&I and there is a card molded in with their name on it and dated 1969. It is very rough looking on the bottom. The old hoods didn't stand up very well. I talked to a guy who was the second owner of a 68 Motion Camaro and he told me that one day while running at high speed on the highway the hood split in half and flew off the car and it had hood pins on it. I have seen a few old glass hoods at swap meets and they were stress cracking and look like they got brittle with age. I don't think many of the original hoods survived.
