Sad part is someone will grab the Camaro stuff and we all know what will happen from there, I think I recall the Camaro stuff on e-bay awhile back, but i thought it sold?
If I was closer I would like to to put her to rest and tear up the paperwork, Kinda like the Boss thread.

Bud, you were watching the Boss thread? I came up with the idea to take a collection and the rest is history.

Matt, Actually I am Very new here {1 week?} and found it while wondering around the site, very noble move on all involved, I really had thought of low balling the guy cash money and see if he bites, and follow through with puting the old Girl down,Anyone care to go for it? we need someone down there to pick it up is the only Hurdle I see, I will contact him and try to swing a deal, if we have any players post up! Like I said I think it was posted on e-bay not to long ago and by the looks of the background photos he probably would go for a few bucks about now?? OK Budnate, I'm confused. Why are you picking on me? BTW I had a 68 LeMans Sprint, in college. It was a real screamer, for a 6 banger!

They referred to the Le Mans Sprint as the "Poor Man's GTO" so you see, the roots of my cloning go back 35 years.

Picking on You? NOOO Waaayy, I also had a buddy that had one of the little critters, believe me more than one guy was left in his dust, with the manual 3pd they really were pretty quick, I wouldnt mind looking over the a/c stuff for dates but a road trip from here to there just wont work about now,

Ok, semi-on topic post here...you guys tell me more about those 6-banger sprints! How would one do in a Firebird? Did they have 4-barrels and dual exhaust?

Unreal 03-08-2003 07:47 PM

Re: e-bay, UNREAL, 67 RS/SS,Title.

Rob, They had high compression heads (I'm guessing 11:1, but don't know for sure--had to run High test gas), Rochester 4 bbl. Mine had single exhaust. However, I remember I had a hard time finding a replacement exhaust pipe. I can't remember the details, but I found one that was listed for my car, but when the guy brought it out, it had a wye on it that was crimped and welded shut. I'll bet at least some of them were dual exhaust.
They also had heavy duty "GTO" suspension , and came standard with a 3 speed and Hurst shifter. mine had an open rear, but I don't know the ratio.
Stock Lemans badging with a 3 stripe (two 1/4" with a 2" in the middle) located about halfway up the sides between the wheelwells. The word "SPRINT" replaced the center of the stripe on part of the fender.

I think it was a 250 ci with 230 hp. Drum brakes all around.

When I first started looking for a car, there was a 69 Firebird Sprint 4 speed convt. that had some Lingenfelter work done to it. It was around Blacksburg Va, but I never went to look at it.

Theres a for sale sign posted here at the Auto hobby Shop selling a 67 Lemans Convt/6 cylinder for $2500. From the pics it looks like a nice car but one would still have to get up close and look even if its as cheap as it is.

I have a 67 Bird with a Sprint Engine. They'll suprise alot of people. There pretty quick 0-60. They have a 6500 rpm redline from the factory. They have some decent torque. Mine is a 4 speed (most where 3speeds manual or 2 speed auto), the 4 speed had 3.11 first gear. Fun drive because you have the extra rpm with some torque to play with (front end is a little lighter too).

All Sprints where single exhaust, but they came with a split manifold so it's easy to make true dual. Compression was around 10.5 from the factory.

There are some sleeper out there, people put superchargers on them, or triple Webers. Something different to play with if nothing else.

Wasn't the sprint engine one of the first to use a timing belt to drive the cam?

Re: e-bay, UNREAL, 67 RS/SS,Title.

Were the block/heads iron or aluminum? Any idea what the weight of a Firebird with the Sprint-6 and a 4 speed would weigh?

Rick 03-14-2003 02:28 AM

Re: e-bay, UNREAL, 67 RS/SS,Title.

Jaguar I think around the same time had a belt driven OHC engine, I'm not sure though.

The block and heads are cast iron, the cam cover is alum.

One of my Firebird books quotes a 400ci Bird weighing 3250 lbs. It also said the OHC engine saved about 180 lbs in weight up front versus the 400ci. Doesn't mention what tranny.
