Norm,
I noticed your email doesn't say"remove me first".
Maybe that is how they zapped you?

Re: Scam Alert

This report surfaced as well on other boards a couple of months ago. If I remember a board memember of of SLP was contacted about selling an 02 35th to an African client, but someone showed him the link before he took the deal.

i got this email the other day about a car i had for sale.i didnt know about this thread but i luaghed when i read the letter.he asked if i would mind a us bank check?lol
the only way i would do that deal would be if the suitcase of cash was shipped to me first.here is what the email said//
Hello,
I am a car and bike dealer based in South Africa. I
saw your advert placement at carsearch.com and am
interested in buying your car. Please forward me your
final asking price only as my client who is based in
the US. would handle the shipping and pick-up. Also
indicate if you would accept a cashiers check drawn
from a US. bank for payment. I look forward to reading
from you. Thanks, Osas

Re: Scam Alert

Just got an email about buying a jet ski we had listed on another site for sale, saying he was "overseas" and would take it sight unseen. But, said someone in the states owes the buyer some money, and that person would forward the entire amount owed to me, and I was to send the "balance"...yeah right!

So, where do I go from here? Do I need to contact someone, or suck this guy in, or...?

Re: Scam Alert

FYI: Never respond to any of these bogus scams, especially if they have a "click here to remove me from the mailing list" link. That link does a variety of things, the least of which is confirms that your email address is a "ripe" one. Gotta love those Nigerian scam artists. They are the best in the business at forging bank documents and sucking money out of bank accounts with only the basic information provided by the victim. They are also experts with identity fraud. Never give them a real mailing address. The first thing they do is then submit a change of address request to the post office and then your mail starts getting forwarded directly to them. All they need is one major credit card statement and then they make a request for "replacement" credit cards and BINGO! there goes your credit rating. Remember the kids book: "If You Give A Mouse A Cookie"? Well in this case its "If You Give A Nigerian Scam Artist An Email....he'll then ask you for a bank account number....

Re: Scam Alert

I had sort of the same thing happen a few months back involving someone in the Netherlands that wanted to buy some Johnny Lightnings I had for sale, but he wanted me to send him my banking info because he said thats how they do it there. I said um, no, so he had some guy in CA send me a MO for the cars. Nothing ever came back, so I am guessing it was a legit transaction.

Re: Scam Alert

I had that exact e-mail around about November time. When I had a car for sale on Ebay. I knew there was somthing up, Because I had read about this scam, Or one simular on camaros.net.

I think its sad realy, Because now its going to make it harder for *lagit* buyers overseas to buy a car, With out people assuming it could be a scam. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif

Re: Scam Alert

Just got an e-mail from a fellow named Sreenivasan and he is overseas. He is inquiring about a vehicle that I have for sale. I just hesitate when I hear from someone overseas, I have received similar e-mails with other names and they always sound the same. The main question they ask is "what is the lowest price on your car".
