Is the 71 Hemi Convert the $1mil ex Dennis Tuttle car?

Re: Supercars' additions

That's the "other" blue 71 hemi ragtop Cuda, the "drug dealer auction" one.

Re: Supercars' additions

The ex-Milton Blue 71 Hemi 4 speed Conv is owned by a fellow in Peoria Ill. Dennis was representing him at the purchase from Milton and now during re-sale. Not re-sold yet as far as I've heard. A couple guys trying very hard to get it though.

Mine is the other Blue 71 Hemi Cuda 4 speed Conv. It was seized from a drug dealer in the NorthWest here, and then auctioned by a local Police Department nearby. Anyway, these two Blue 71's had been referred to as being the only two 71 4 speed Hemi Cuda convs built. That was until another 71 Hemi Cuda 4 speed Conv surfaced overseas, referred to as the export 71 Hemi Cuda 4 speed Conv. The noteworthy part about my 71 Hemi Cuda Conv, is that it retains it's full original motor and drivetrain, whereas the other blue one doesn't.

Kevin;
Wasn't one of the Hemi conv. Cudas a silver/gunmetal gray color?

Your '69 Motion Nova didn't receive stripes like the other motion cars? It appears that the Novas may not have, the export car didn't, Rich's car didn't, and yours may not have as well? Cool car, any vintage pics of it?

Re: Supercars' additions

Marlin, yep, the export 71 4 speed Hemi Cuda Conv was grey.

Have vintage pictures of the B/M Nova, but later in it's life. I've talked to the original owner who bought it new from Baldwin, but didn't ask him about stripes. It is still titled in his name with title showing car purchased from Baldwin Chevrolet. Also have the Baldwin POP, Motion invoice, along with letter from Joel. I'm not sure, but I don't think paint/stripes were always put on the Motion paperwork. It is supposed to have a Black Vinyl top which I hope to get installed later.

I have seen another Landy Dart at the Mopar Nats that is already restored. Did he campaign two cars that year?

Kevin, how did you find the Motion Chevelle? Your collection gets more amazing by the day! When does the museum open????

SuperCars 02-12-2003 12:10 AM

Re: Supercars' additions

Dave, Yes he campaigned two cars. The other one is an automatic belonging to sixtiesmuscle Mike and mine is a 4 speed.

The Baldwin Motion Chevelle was found by someone other than me, and I obtained the photo with the purchase of the car. When I bought it, it was already in process of restoration.

Kevin, would you mind sharing some of those other pics of your Motion cars that aren't on your website with us here?

Kevin,
Do you know the production number of the Dart you just aquired? Was it an early or late car of the 55 built? I know of another one owner all original from a former Hurst employee that might be bought.

Re: Supercars' additions

Kevin did you buy the Hemi Convert thru Fred E out of Minnesota? I think he was the guy that was also involved in trying to sell the Sox & Martin Cuda that was on E-bay in January. I believe that a couple of board members bid on that car.

BTW I love the "as found" pics of your Chevelle! Was the car repainted in it's life? I did not see a Motion paint scheme in the photo.

Re: Supercars' additions

Frank
Many of the real life Motion cars never had a special paint scheme. AMT/ERTL diecast is the one guilty of spreading the misconception that all the cars had special paint. ERTL put the Motion paint scheme on everything to sell product knowing that many people will buy one of each. I'm waiting to see when ERTL will bring out a John Deere Tractor in Motion stripes.

Ugh Ertl! So authentic that they released the 70 Camaro from the "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" movie. I think my 2 year old could tell the difference between a 70 Camaro and a 79 Camaro. Sorry, off topic.

Re: Supercars' additions

55chevy, I have several more new acquistions to post at a later date. Of these, a couple that are in restoration, of which I don't have good photos of them to post yet. I hesitated to post on my web site these recent ones that aren't complete.

Motown-Matt, I emailed off-line the VIN# of my Landy Hemi Dart to you.

hvychev, no didn't buy mine through Fred E. I bought my 71 Blue Hemi Cuda 4 speed Conv a month before the Milton-Tuttle transaction took place. But there was another white 71 Hemi Cuda Conv auto/column shift plain jane el-strippo project car involved. This is a long story too. In December, the owner of that white 71 Hemi Cuda conv had agreed to sell it to me, and we had a verbal commitment agreement by phone. This was on a Friday evening. Monday morning when I called to get his bank's wire transfer info to send the deposit, but he informs me he had a higher offer. He had spent the weekend shopping it around to other guys during the weekend. To make a long story short, he started a bidding war, and got a lot of guys angry, as they would agree on a price and then he would call the next buyer, me included saying what the previous guy would pay. Eventually everyone got so upset with the guy the they all pulled off the car. After all these antics took place, Fred E came afterwards for a different unknown customer. Fred called me asking to buy it for his customer to make a few dollars myself. I was so frustrated with the owner of this white Cuda conv, I did not wish to participate. But as a favor to Fred, I told the owner of the White Cuda that if he didn't sell it at the number Fred was proposing he'd be stupid not to accept it.

Whitetop, you're right about a lot of cars not having stripes. On my Black Motion Chevelle, the front end had been repainted, and fenders/hood replaced from collision damage. The car itself looked to have been repainted a couple times, so I'm not clear as to what stripes it may have had.

Kevin
This is not meant to discredit in anyway..
Has your 1969 Baldwin/Motion Chevelle been documented through Joel Rosen?
If not how do you know it to be authentic?
I am just curious if there is another way Today.
Thank You for your reply.
Rick

Re: Supercars' additions

I have a book that has info on the Motion Chevelles and it shows a 68 427 Phase III with a 427 Corvette style hood scoop on a SS hood. Should a 69 be the same? Price for the standard Phase III was $4998.88. Phase III striping was a $100.00 option. It also list a 3barrel Holley carb.

Re: Supercars' additions

MR70, yes, my Baldwin Motion Chevelle is documented by Joel Rosen. It also has the build sheet showing Baldwin Chevrolet, L78 motor etc, etc. Had SS427 emblem on back, plus Motion decals in back quarter glass windows when found.

Re: Supercars' additions

I don't know if this is relavent or not, but those pictures got me to thinking...

A few years ago we owned a '69 Chevelle, Cortez silver, dark blue vinyl top, blue interior, L-78/400TH, 4.10, console, buildsheet(s)...anyway, this car had right at 30,000 original miles, and was all original except for 2 things: a CE coded L-72, dated somewhere around '69-'70, and a faded, original, Baldwin-Motion decal on the driver's side rear quarter window, just like in the picture. The car originally came from Hossay (spelling?) Chevrolet in New Jersey. We couldn't track down any of the previous owners, so we always just assumed it got the sticker somewhere along the way. Kind of makes me wonder...

Those pictures are from when the car was on ebay a few years ago. I looked at it when it was sitting in that yard in CT.
