Possible Stolen Car
Hey folks check out this E-bay 67 RS/SS for sale. Car has 67 Trim/VIN tags on it but in no way is it a 67. Its a 68. Seller states the VIN in on the door pillar area and that there is a place on the drivers side dash where it should have been for a 68. Anyone know of a stolen 68 RS/SS or just a 68 RS recently.
Keep in mind that the seller might have been screwed over on this and didnt know about the switch either. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2401480371 |
Re: Possible Stolen Car
Could it possibly be a 67 restored with 68 parts? I have seen this done before. Anyone know if it has the single traction bar on the rear?

Re: Possible Stolen Car
I would think way to many 68 parts were used then. Door (no wing windows) Fenders (has side marker lights) Console is 68/69, rear lights are 68's Qtr panels also have the side marker lights, SS hood stacks are 68/69 also

Re: Possible Stolen Car
What's also odd is the 1968 Deluxe door panels / upholstery but the speedo and tach are 1967 parts. Car looks nice but there are too many inconsistencies if I was thinking about it.

Re: Possible Stolen Car
I have seen this car before. It was at the pomona swapmeet last year the end of august. Buyer beware...... Roger

Re: Possible Stolen Car
I would be very cautious on this car. The only item that I see that is for a 67 on this car is the speedo & tachometer. Now it could be a 67 that was built using a 68 donor car but I don't think so.
First the dash has the hole for a 68 vin and why? Because it is a 68 dash in the car. The 67 dash top and front is not the same as a 68 as the 68 front is molded for the dash pad to come down on the sides next to the door hinge post area. Second it has to be a 68 as there is no way that I know of to bolt 68 doors onto a 67 hull without serious metal work in the hinge area. I have two cars here to compare and the hinge posts are not even close in design. Also the bolt patterns for the hinges are not even close between the two years. Third, the astro ventilation vents are in the dash and those are very hard to add to a car that did not have them. The only 67's that would have the vents on the sides would have been a/c cars from the factory. Not only do the holes have to be drilled in the dash but the ones in the cowl have to be drilled also (done from the interior side of the car behind the dash) and is a very hard to get to area. Also if you are building a 67 why add the 68 doors, marker lights, taillights, style trim chrome on the doors and quarters, hood inserts, interior (other than the speedo & tach), and correct 68 RS headlight system? (maybe the owner liked it) It would make more sense to buy 67 parts and do it right. I wonder what the hidden vin's are? Bet they are 68's or they are not even there. Didn't someone post that their 68 RS/SS big block car was stolen out of Canada back in the summer? I remember that it was a Seafrost Green car, black top, deluxe interior and some other options but I am not sure what...................RatPack.................. |
Re: Possible Stolen Car
Rat Rack--> Yes a fellow had a 68 RS/SS 396 stolen last year out of Canada and I sent him the E-bay link from the E-mail he has listed in the Stolen cars section of Team Camaro in hopes that if it is his car he can get it located and mayber get it back.

Re: Possible Stolen Car
There's no way that is a 67 car. It's a 68 and he has a 67 VIN and title on it. Sure looks like a nice solid 68 that somebody is missing. Why would you tag a solid 68 as a 67 unless there was some underlying reason?

Re: Possible Stolen Car
Rat Pack & all:
Since several people may believe this car is stolen, I will check on it tonight at work. I'm a deputy sheriff in Minnesota and I feel there is enough information to legitimately check on this car. I will forward any information to the California Highway patrol or the local police if needed. I know where the hidden VIN are for my 1970 Nova but I'm not certain on camaros. Please post this info or e-mail me so I can forward the hidden VIN to local authorities. You have my email address here and you can leave me a PM. Otherwise my work email is Please feel free contact me off this board if you want to remain anonymous. I'll try my best to forward any lead to catch people who steal our cars. Thanks Ron |
Re: Possible Stolen Car
Ron, you have a private message. Below are the numbers from the trim tag, which is a 67. The seller has not gotten a picture of the tag to anyone as of yet...........RatPack............
10C E ST 67-12637 NOR 19121 TR 765-Z C-C PNT 2MGR 3L 4F The info on this trim tag coincides with the vin as far as build date so they are probably a matched set. Also the owner claims there are "no traces of white paint" on the car. Unless it was chemically dipped, then there should be some traces of the original color somewhere. Re: Possible Stolen Car
Roger,
The best information I have is my lead to the California Highway Patrol was followed up on by their Vehicle Theft Unit and before I post anything here I want to have all the facts straight. I'll keep everyone posted when I can verify and/or release some information. Keep your eyes open for more cars guys. Thanks, Ron |
