Saw ZL1 #30 today...
Dropped by GMMG to check on #51. Matt showed me #30 (could have been #31) with roll bar installed. Bright red. Looked good...until the garbage truck backed into it!! J/K

Re: Saw ZL1 #30 today...
Sorry 82, but I think the garbage truck hit both cars. Oh well, better luck next time.

Re: Saw ZL1 #30 today...
Dave. sorry but I didn't notice many of the numbers. I did see a lot of yellow cars. It looks like Matt is trying to get out about 6 per week. I'm sure buyers and dealers alike are driving him crazy but he is doing the best he can. I took him the 18X10" Fikse Profil 5S wheels. I can't wait to see how they look on the car.
I wonder what people are getting on their tags? I'm thinking about C5R427. Or maybe just #51 ZL1. |
Re: Saw ZL1 #30 today...
Were you kiding about the garbage truck hit? I was able to get "ZL ONE" on my Illinois plate.

Re: Saw ZL1 #30 today...
Hey tell us about your Zl1, have you picked yours up yet?
02 ZL1 owners, who is getting the hockey stick stripe on their 427 car? Do you have pics? If do, will you post please. I can't decide if I want them or not. Thanks David |
Re: Saw ZL1 #30 today...
I don't think Matt would let a garbage truck within 100 yards of one of those cars! Dump truck, maybe. J/K
Dave, I'm not a fan of the hockey sticks. Matt did say that many of the 427s are getting them. Mine will leave there with the LS6. Lamar Walden is going to install the C5R 427 and other goodies. |
Re: Saw ZL1 #30 today...
Hockey Stick Stripe with 427 emblems, known as the Belk Treatment.

Re: Saw ZL1 #30 today...
I was one of the five who picked up their car in LaHarpe IL
on New Years Eve Day - white one #63 400 hp 3.73 gear - trailered back to the dealership. I believe this is the only ZL1 2002 bought and sold in Illinois from a dealership, there are other Illinois owners but they were bought outside Illinois (I stand realdy to be corrected). I had to wait a few days until it was dry out before driving it home. It is awesome driving as the prototype was described. Very very smooth driving and handling - very fast. I have a 1973 Z-28 RS with a 502-2 fours-3500 stall-competition ladders & frame connectors - it runs very strong. The ZL1 seems to run just as strong - I can't wait to run them together and see what happens. The 427-600 hp, has to be even more awesome and I don't know how you are going to hookup. Matt Murphy and crew, I believe did an exceptional job on the car and I believe because he has put together many great ideas - these ZL1's will have a place in muslecar history. I am new to the "Yenko forum" but have been a gearhead for a long time. Thanks. |

Re: Saw ZL1 #30 today...
That is a great pic, the car aint bad either.
I guess right now that this is the only ZL1 with a 427 that hasn't had a speciality paint job on it. I have seen other pics of this one before. Hey Belk how that Z drive. Any traction problems? ZL1O2IL What color did you go with? I wouldn't be surprised about you the only one to pick one up at the dealer. According to the dealer that I bought mine, none of the painted cars were going to make it to the dealer. Is your going to be a garage queen or ashaplt mean? |
Re: Saw ZL1 #30 today...
I never did get to drive it. Matt brought it to vette-fest along with charleys, and barnharts. Porterfields was there as well. I just got to wipe it down! That was the extent of it! Matt took it back to GA. to finish it for the New Years eve deal at Gibb's. By then I had acquired Holubs #2 car, and the new owner had acquired the silver car to take delivery in LaHarpe. So, I have yet to experience the 600hp! On March 2nd I will!

Re: Saw ZL1 #30 today...
Traction problems? Me and a friend met Matt at GMMG one night, seems like it was last Feb or March. Matt wanted to drive my 02 1LE SS so I ended up test driving a stage II LS6 car. First and second gear in that car were virtually useless! I'm sure the cool night had something to do with it but that car was a monster! In fact my buddy, who drives a modded 02 Z06 turned down the offer of a test drive after riding with me. I can't imagine what the 427 is going to feel like. Re: Saw ZL1 #30 today...
You guys had better pray for traction problems, because if you ever hook even PART of those 600 ponies then BAD THINGS are gonna happen. You'd be darn lucky to only need a clutch, but I'd put money on the rear letting go first!

Re: Saw ZL1 #30 today...
Mine's getting a new rear end and clutch when the 427 is installed.
|
Re: Saw ZL1 #30 today...
What rear you going with? Moser 12 bolt? Which clutch?
|
Re: Saw ZL1 #30 today...
The clutch is a Centerforce (I think) dual disk. I can't remember if the rear end is a Strange or Moser. I'll find my notes and confirm which it is.
