Reggie's ZL! at Barrett Jackson
Reggie's ZL1 bid upto $280k, but he had it reserved at $330, Holy S....!!!. He stated to the crowd that the engine in it was a CE block, but he had the original blown block to go with it.
|
Re: Reggie's ZL! at Barrett Jackson
When Reggie told the reserve price of $330k the crowd started booing him.

Re: Reggie's ZL! at Barrett Jackson
The ZL1 has the original block, but is blown, looks like an X-11? It did not look that fresh, probably would need another resto to make it show worthy. His Chevelle went to 125K but did not meet reserve, it also leaves alot to be desired, especially with the cowl plenum. Joe C. got his 15 minutes of fame! They answered a question of his during the bidding of the Yenko Chevelle!

Re: Reggie's ZL! at Barrett Jackson
There was also a charley sighting on tonights coverage and had his picture on azcentral website. I also heard that question read on tv, very cool.... Roger

Re: Reggie's ZL! at Barrett Jackson
Maybe it aint so cool to own a Reggie car anymore....
Are they really that much better ??? I don't think so. You are paying for the opportunity to own one of his old cars. What a great way for a celeb to make quick cash, buy a car, own it for awhile, then it becomes a famous guy's car, maybe increases by 30% in 6 months, not a bad scam at all. As long as people keep licking it up, the celeb wins - but maybe not this time. Re: Reggie's ZL! at Barrett Jackson
He did have one of the coolest pieces there......the 49 Ford coupe with a 427 Cammer motor !!! Didn't meet reserve...very expensive motor !

Re: Reggie's ZL! at Barrett Jackson
WAs looking over the auction results at BJ on 69,70 Chev's seems like prices have stabilized and/or came down a little. Seems like every LS6 chevelle in the country was for sale there, with most selling between $25k-40K. there was a ZL1 that bid upto $61k, no sale, does Reggie's name mean another $200k,?? they should call him Mr. January. Nice racket

Re: Reggie's ZL! at Barrett Jackson
So what is a realistic price for a ZL1 Camaro with a non numbers matching engine?
|
Re: Reggie's ZL1 at Barrett Jackson
Anyone know the body # / date for #51?
Is the blown block the one that came from Lamar's shop a year or two ago? |

Re: Reggie's ZL1 at Barrett Jackson
The market for a good 4 speed ZL1 seems to be a little under 300K right now. Having the orig. engine does not seem to make much difference. Reggies car is neat in that it has options. We all think we have one of the better one as I'm sure Reggie does also. His has a ZL1 block in it and comes with the orig block that he spent a bunch of money on repairing. At 275K bid on the car, if he lets it go he also has to pay 10% to the Auction House. That leaves him less than 250K for his car. These days, I'm not sure I would sell either.
|
Re: Reggie's ZL1 at Barrett Jackson
Ok. Someone spends 330k for his car. They then take it to someone to get the original block put back into it. How much money do they have into it now ? / Versus how much more is it worth with the original block back into it ? With it worth the same with whatever engine in it, I guess this is why Reggie is smart in not bringing it to auction with the right engine installed. OL Reg was name droppin Ed on TV. LOL
|
Re: Reggie's ZL1 at Barrett Jackson
He also said he paid someone 20k just for the information on where the car was way back when he bought it!
|
Re: Reggie's ZL1 at Barrett Jackson
It was kind of tough for Reggie with his ZL1 following up behind that $950K Jaguar that didn't sell. The announcers are such idiots, they sat there saying "it's just a 69 Camaro and they made several hundred thousands of them." Then when the price kept climbing they added "does one of these engines really add that much value to these cars?" And I thought they also implied that a car with a name like Don Yenko on it would be worth more. I thought the buyers were paying 8% on top of the purchase price. Do the sellers pay 10% as well as the buyers paying 8%?
|
Re: Reggie's ZL1 at Barrett Jackson
I also believe it is a buyers premium. The buyer pays the 8%-10% to the auction company. The seller pays $500-$1200 to run the car across the block depending on when it is sold. Roger
|
Re: Reggie's ZL1 at Barrett Jackson
Yea they said Reggie "had a Yenko at home the he would NEVER sell" Those announcers were the Jaguar type for sure.
|
Re: Reggie's ZL1 at Barrett Jackson
I bet he would have gotten closer to what he was looking for if the car was a different color.
|
Re: Reggie's ZL1 at Barrett Jackson
Yes, Yes... the announcers really needed to have a look under the "bonnet" of that Camaro! What is a bonnet???? Is that the hood or a convertible top???? Learned something new this week... i never knew that a 67 GTO was a uni body!!!!!
Peter |
Re: Reggie's ZL1 at Barrett Jackson
Yeah Pete, the '67 unibody GTOs were the only ones that came with 389 tripowers too.
|
Re: Reggie's ZL1 at Barrett Jackson
My poor wife not only had to sit through the auction coverage, but had to listen to me rant about the stupidity of the announcers - Alan Decadenet?? I think he should only speak when there is a European car on the block.

So did anyone here go to the Auction??
|
Re: Reggie's ZL1 at Barrett Jackson
I'm thinking there needs to be a second audio source televised, kind of like they do with different languages, where you switch your tv over to the second audio source.
You could have the standard audio channel with the patsy's from Speedvision, then the alternate audio channel could be guys from this site in attendance, giving the REAL info on the cars. Kind of like open mike night! |
Re: Reggie's ZL1 at Barrett Jackson
I can see Reggie wanting a little more since he has to pay such a large commission, but the successful bidder would have had to pay 8% over his bid. At $330K, you'd pay an extra $26,400 and that isn't right either. I'm obviously not the expert here on ZL-1 prices, but a non-original motored ZL-1 for $356,400 seems insane. JMHO.

Re: Reggie's ZL1 at Barrett Jackson
Brock is right that the ZL1 Camaros were kind of plain looking as far as no special stripes or emblems but that is one of the most interesting sides to the hi po COPO story. Chevy built them to race not to make a flashy street car.
Out of three Speed Commentators none of them know that Chevy built them for NHRA drag racing? They just make comment like "I don't get it...all it has is an aluminum engine....why is the bidding up to 275K?" |
Re: Reggie's ZL! at Barrett Jackson
Realistic price if you are lucky you might get one for 300K!Folks need to quit procrasttinating! The prices are only going to go up!!!!!!!

Re: Reggie's ZL! at Barrett Jackson
Since Reggies ZL1 was bid to $275K, and Rich P. is asking $300k for the one he's selling, why didn't the ZL1 at World Wide Muscle Cars sell for $160k. It's not listed on their site now, but it seems like it was there for about a year. I heard they paid $120k for it.

Re: Reggie's ZL! at Barrett Jackson
I spoke to Reggie about the car on Thursday. He asked me what I felt the car would top out at?-I replied 265.
Reggie said his projected range was between 250 and 330. Phil |
Re: Reggie's ZL! at Barrett Jackson
The Worldwide car is sold. Being a column shift Auto Green car might be making the difference. Also being at a Dealership seems to scare People away.
|
Re: Reggie's ZL! at Barrett Jackson
I don't think Dealers scare people away. I have several customers who will not buy unless they buy from a dealer. I think sometimes a certain car being at a dealership gives people a false sense of security that a car is for sale there and it will always be there if they can't find another one. We all too often get so caught up in the hunt that we overlook the obvious deals. I have looked back many times and scratched my head wondering "why didn't I buy that Black LS6?" or "I guess they didn't ruin the market for that ultra rare one of a kind 67 Shelby!" Bottom line is my Green ZL1 did sell so it was a good deal for myself and the guy who bought it. I could have asked $275,000 for it like every other one out there but I would probably still own it. I've heard the story "well you know it is Green and an auto", to that I say "well you know it is one of only 69 ever built and I can't think of any situation that the color green and an auto trans equate to a $100k deduction." I still believe that the guy who owns that car today is probably a little smarter than alot of us for not passing up such an obvious deal.
|
Re: Reggie's ZL! at Barrett Jackson
Mike,
First let me say welcome, good to see you here. I would have to agree that a ZL1 is a ZL1 and of the 69 plus two prototypes only approx. 50 are found and in existence today,so yes any one of them would be a very rare and desirable Super Car. Congrats on the sale of the Lamar Walden White/Blue COPO as well. |
Re: Reggie's ZL! at Barrett Jackson
Mike and Stefano, the three of us visited on this car recently, and yes we all will agree it was a sleeping money maker. And yes, I kick myself for not buying it. Mike I have done business with you and we both know I will again as a real friendship has developed and Stefano, we have done some super business also, and I am here to say that both of you know your cars very well. Wish I knew as much as either of you.The ZL1 was a steal. And Mike ,You are a true Mustang and Shelby GURU and man I have learned alot from you.You have had and still have some of the finest muscle cars in the country in your possession. And Stefano, You also have one of the most documented Cannonsburg Yenko Camaros in existence along with one of three 81 Turbo Yenkos Stage 2.

Re: Reggie's ZL! at Barrett Jackson
Maurice,
I was a pleasure doing business with you, got any thing else for sale |
Re: Reggie's ZL! at Barrett Jackson
I think Reggie is out of his mind. So you have a car that is worth somewhere in the $100,000's to $200,000's range, and you paid someone $20,000 dollars for the info on the car. What did he pay for the car originally? Do you think it adds up to the $280,000 that someone offered for the car? Hell no it doesn't!! I can think of a lot of cars that I could buy with that money. If that was me, it would have been SOLD!!!!!!!! Mark
|
Re: Reggie's ZL! at Barrett Jackson
the green ZL1 was a steal. the market on these cars IMO is light at $300k. obviously reggie didn't need the $ , he knows the market on these cars still has a lot of upside, think now, 69 Zl1's, how many hemi's, could you imagine if it had a drop top. ask the authority where he thinks the price of the ZL1's are going,(ed cuneen) he thinks they are still a bargain! Re: Reggie's ZL! at Barrett Jackson
Many thanks to Mike & Tony at WWMC, great guys & nice facility! They worked hard to make the deal happen with me on the ZL1. It's a nice car that was very fairly priced, who cares about the auto. & the green color, it's a ZL1! It's great to see Mike on the site. As far as RJ's ZL1 & not selling, what can you say, the ZL1's are hard if not impossible to replace. The bid (if real) was fair but remember his car is/was a rare piece of racing history as well.
|
Re: Reggie's ZL! at Barrett Jackson
I wish that I would of had the money at the time to buy the one from WWMC. The green looks great and I personally like automatic cars. With my limited knowledge just could not figure out why it was discounted $100K. Seems to me that Patrick got a heck of a deal. Congrats on a great car!

Re: Reggie's ZL! at Barrett Jackson
I know from family experience that Reggie is not the friendliest guy to deal with. My uncle and his associate sold Reggie '63 or '64 (sorry I can't remember the year) Impala SS with a 409. It was delievered by carrier and part of the agreement was some signed baseballs and a couple of bats. Reggie took delivery of the car and refused to hold up on his end of the bargin. My uncle however replied to Reggie that he "still possessed the title to the car." My uncle ended up with the bat and balls!
