TCS Solenoid (434) Original or Repop
In August on EBAY I bought a NOS 434 TCS solenoid switch from a certain Ed S. who deals quite a few parts from his Floria home. Shortly thereafter the auction a bystander Emailed me his thoughts about my purchase NOT being N.O.S.
I have been trying to gather info on what part I actually have, but very few people seem to actually KNOW. Did any of the 1969 Big Block applications use the 434 TCS solenoid??? Chris White who I believe is a TOP LS-6 Chevelle "expert" says that the one I bought is a REPOP.....I can send anyone pics BUT obviously am still not up to speed on posting them HERE. Chris While says my style (font) of numbering is incorrect and also there should be BROWN insulating "goop" showing where white insulator shows in opening of case......Please advise if you have knowledge.....My seller Ed Sl... in Florida refutes my claim and wont offer any help in this matter....Thanks, Chuck Sharin/Seattle |

Re: TCS Solenoid (434) Original or Repop
Chuck,
Hard to see the script on one picture due to focus but it looks like the one on my 1970 Nova big block. The numbering on mine is DR1114434. Mine is the original unit. Ron |
Re: TCS Solenoid (434) Original or Repop
Chuck,
As far as 1969 part, the 62-70 parts book lists: Group 2.408 Years 70 Usage All (396,400 w/4BC, 454) ................. Description SOLENOID ASSY., spark control I do not see a single listing it the parts book for any year except 70. for this group. I will look at home to see if I have any pictures of a NOS unit that may help. Greg |
Re: TCS Solenoid (434) Original or Repop
Ron, Could you look at your original piece and see if there is a trace of a brown sealant around the edge? I bought a repop from Paragon to use on my car until I UNCOVER the original somewhere in the garage. I too have heard that the originals have the brown residue at the seal.
Thanks, Dennis |

Dennis,
I sent you an e-mail which hopefully helps answer your question. Ron |

Picture of Brown sealant. I have a NOS 432 with a broken plastic hose valve that has a carmel colored transparent resin at the same spot. I have seen a few on which you could not see the sealant on the picture. Greg

I want the one in the picture. The 4434 is the correct piece for my car.

CamarosRus:
I hope you got my e-mail. For those of you who don't know the question was asked if the "ones" on mine original look like an "l" or if they have a "flag" at the top. Also, if the "three" was round at the top or straight. On my original unit, the "ones" look like an "l" and my "three" is straight across the top, not round. In your first picture you posted, the 3 is round on top instead of flat. I can't tell on the "ones". Needs to be focused better. Ron |
Re: TCS Solenoid (434) Original or Repop
Chuck, you should have bought the NOS solenoid from Dave Soltow/Yesteryear auto parts(941)-743-7784 or T.J. Sarlo (708)-343- 0408.......They DONT play games with people

Re: TCS Solenoid (434) Original or Repop
How about my 14 year old thread !!!!!!!
I'll have to post NEW pictures, but dont have them yet Anybody know if the repro 434 and 432 TCS switch has a ROUND top 3 (like this) vs the FLAT Top 3 on OEM Originals. Who is opening these up so as to replate the ZINC How much $$$$ Who will share knowledge about replating, reriveting, TCS relay on blak plastic firewall wire gutter ??? |
Re: TCS Solenoid (434) Original or Repop
Chuck,
I do not know of any new tooling repop 434 TCS solenoids As far as I know, only GM solenoids have the flat top 3 in the part number. I also believe the original electrical contacts used an amber colored sealer. Some of the NOS ones I've had didn't seem to have anything and some have a gray colored sealer. Riveting the real to the wiring gutter is no big deal with the correct tubular rivets and correct set tool. I would be happy to help you with that. It's also no big deal to restore the solenoids as long as the field coil is good. Re: TCS Solenoid (434) Original or Repop
Is there another part number stamped on the other side of the bracket? I recall taking one apart and finding 451 stamped on the other side
|
Re: TCS Solenoid (434) Original or Repop
Marlin,
I've never seen any other part numbers on the opposite side of the bracket of a 434 solenoid. 1972 small block tcs solenoids carry part # 1114451. Could that be what you had? Chris |
Re: TCS Solenoid (434) Original or Repop
