Just curious.....I would think that it would be a bit scary considering the monetary investment

Re: Do any of you guys ACTUALLY Drive your cars
Nice car. I haven't had a chance to drive mine because it's still being restored. I will be nervous driving it with the money I have put into it. But that's why we have insurance I guess.

Re: Do any of you guys ACTUALLY Drive your cars
Alwyn, I have a vintage Team Shelby Trans Am Mustang worth close to half mil, look for me next season (car #2) on the vintage race circuit racing with no insurance as race vehicles cant be insured. All the guys in that sport take the same risk, so yeah a lot of guys not only drive there cars, but drive with their foot to the floor!

Re: Do any of you guys ACTUALLY Drive your cars
Yes...very carefully though.

Re: Do any of you guys ACTUALLY Drive your cars
WOW you guys are wild...........I would be SCARED to death to drive a car worth that kind of Money....I will look for you on the circuit....I am impressed

Re: Do any of you guys ACTUALLY Drive your cars

Re: Do any of you guys ACTUALLY Drive your cars
Alwyn, Nice Firebird, if you know some one looking for a similar project I have a basket case, badly rusted, complete numbers matching 67 Firebird 350 HO convertible I may let go, its a rare one, did not make many 350 HO ragtops, so it is worth saving.

Re: Do any of you guys ACTUALLY Drive your cars
I lied, I looked at the title, its a 68.

Re: Do any of you guys ACTUALLY Drive your cars
my 7200 mile 69 camaro yenko , compliments, brian henderson, once, 69 yenko chevelle compliments chuck huber, never, 69 yenko nova compliments randy miller, never. the camaro is original , so it doesn't hurt it as much , 2miles, the other (2) never except to dyno and warm on a rare occasion. i am the collector car freak, don't stand a chace to spoil what you have, a virgin!

Re: Do any of you guys ACTUALLY Drive your cars
Yep. But very carefully since I'm on the wrong side of the car relative to everyone else.

Re: Do any of you guys ACTUALLY Drive your cars
I drive the LS6 as often as possible. It is fun to let the car eat the tires, although a pain to clean rubber from the wheelwells. As far as I'm concerned if you can't drive it, it isn't worth owning. I don't want an oversize paper weight in my garage. To each his own though.

Here's a recent pic from going to a local show. Ahhhhh there's nothing like the smell of unburned hydrocarbons in the morning.

Re: Do any of you guys ACTUALLY Drive your cars
You bet I drive my Yenko
After all, these things are still cars, not 'art'. What else are they good for if you don't take them out once in a while and exercise them? Kevin Hand! You should be ashamed of yourself! The Chevelle and the Nova have been restored, and can be restored again if need be - so drive the wheels off of them! Yea I know you paid a lot of money for them, but it's all relative, so why cut yourself short of experiencing all there is to owning such cars? How many people can answer 'YES' when someone asks you 'is it real?' after you've just chirped through all 4 gears? |
Re: Do any of you guys ACTUALLY Drive your cars
Kevin, sell me the chevelle. I'll drive it.

Re: Do any of you guys ACTUALLY Drive your cars
Kevin,
I take the '69 Y-Nov for a little 'drive' if your handing the Chevelle keys to Belky |

Best part about driving them is the stories you here about 'back in the day.'
This Chevelle was a local car and almost every time I drive it people come up to me with old stories about it. This pic is the original owner sitting in the car. He lives in the next town over. I was at a cruz nite there and he came up to me saying "hey that's my car." It was fun to have him there to answer the "is it real" questions. |
Re: Do any of you guys ACTUALLY Drive your cars
Fortunately, our weather has been great this fall. We have taken the L79 out 2 or 3 times a week and blast through town. The Deuce also gets driven regularly. One of the shows last summer was a 200 mile round trip. Made a pass throught town in the Camaro last week. However due to the low miles and originality , I am hesitant to drive it much. Have driven it 2000 miles in the last 5 years. Jim

Re: Do any of you guys ACTUALLY Drive your cars
Now it's not a high dollar car but I drive mine. It's too much fun to just let it sit in the garage. Guess that is why I didn't opt for a frame off resto. If I could eventually afford to get a couple more cars I would like to do a frame off.
I guess asking Kevin for a ride in the Yenko Nova is out. |

My pacecar (not a supercar) but a great car, is a piece of American history. I will drive it only enough to keep it "juiced". I have 3 other Camaros that more than impress 99% of the population that are "expendable"...If one gets smashed or stolen so be it. bottom line is that we are mearly keepers of these cars and will be dead long before they rust to nothingness

Re: Do any of you guys ACTUALLY Drive your cars
Spent years restoring BB Corvettes, gave up when car shows were painful explaining why my car was correct (everyone in OZ is a Corvette expert). Started racing a A Prod Vette after visiting the NCRS at Anaheim, great time with maybe the most real race Vettes ever located, and moved on to a OZ BB drag car, that was always street registered. Best of both worlds. Don't have to put up with the idiots anymore, telling me my cars wrong, only people in the know have a clue what it is, If you don't drive them I think you get tired of them quicker.

I would not own a car I didnt drive. I went a little over board driving them home from Vettefest. I felt pretty bad for the first couple of miles. Once the snow and salt was all over the cars and I knew there was nothing I could do about it,I felt like I was 16 again. It felt kinda cool. Then I spent two days cleaning the cars.

Here's a few of the drivers perspective when I made the ultimate road trip. I moved from central PA to Tulsa, Ok in Feb/2000 and I drove 1200 miles in 14hrs straight through in my built '70 4spd Camaro. Oh, Did I mention how much I regret selling it 3 months after that??!! Here I am entering Ohio.
