1969 Yenko Camaro at Leake/Kruse Auction in Dallas
 

Next weekend in Dallas there is a 1969 Yenko Camaro at the Kruse/Leake Auction in Dallas. (Nov.23rd). It is as nice as any in the country.Still has original glass, including the 1973 Pennsylvania safety sticker on the front windshield.It has the original file from Yenko Cheverolet in Cannonsburg,Pa. including the Yenko Invoice dated 7/11/69. The order form for Chevrolet dealers. Dealer copy of the Car shipper from Chevrolet showing it leaving Norwood.A letter from the man who restored it from when he found it and wrote to Ed Cunneen, a copy of the Vettefest national judging in November 1992 scoring a 971 out of 1000 points,a letter from Joel Rosen at Motion Performance telling the first buyer that "sounds like you need a M-22 and possibly a different cluth and shifter assembly" after the first owner kept dumping the transmission while drag racing the car.The protecto plate still intact in its vehicle warrenty booklet,a letter from Ed Cunneen and his COPO Connection after viewing and verifing the car.The customer copy of the Yenko Chevrolet order form, the salesman was Harold Livesey, a copy of the application for the first title in Pennsylvania.
The car is Daytona Yellow, 4 speed,Black vinal top.
The starter has been replaced with a non matching numbers piece.
The wheels are American Torque Thrust wheels, which are the accepted substitute for the origional optional Atlas wheels.
The transmission has been replaced early in the cars life due to failure.
The engine deck may have been surfaced, as no engine stamp indicating assembly date ot engine type can be seen. The casting date of D 28 9 coincides with the build date of the car.
The distributer appears to have been hand stamped with the correct "499" code, it does not appear to be a factory stamping.
Even Ed, himself, could not find any other items incorrect or not in priistine condition.This car would be the centerpiece of anyone's performance car collection.
Brian, you have guessed it, this is the former Dan Bodner Yenko which used to be next to your beautifull former Yenko Camaro at Car shows in and around the northeast.
Gentlemen, it takes alot to buy this car, it has a reserve over $125,000
But the chance of finding a origional car in this shape and with this much paperwork in very hard to do.
Richard Sevenoaks and Jim Leake III are personal friends and I am puttimg this car in their auction, it is not a need to sale, so there won't be any low price selling.This auction also has the ZL-1 #38 in it along with some beautiful LS-6's.
I have listed all the things that keep this car from being the exact car from the dealer so no one can travel and see it and be upset.
The car has 14,200 miles on it. Most were at a quarter of a mile at a time!!!

I seen this car in 1988 at it's first car show! (Colussey Chevy in Bridgeville, Pa.) Very nice car with a very interesting story behind it.

I think this story is correct but Brian or some other member may have some imput. Bodner originaly had a COPO that was a basket case, so he advertised in the Pittsburgh paper for a 1969 camaro body. He got a call from a fellow that said he had one that he wanted to get out of his garage. When he looked at the car he seen it as a yellow car with no stripes, the car had been raced (I remember seeing it at PID in 69) and the original engine was still sitting in the corner of the garage along with all original parts. I don't think the seller realized what he had, he just wanted it gone. I think Bodner got everything for $5000.00, I'm not sure on that figure but I think that was it? I don't think you will ever find a deal like that now!!!!!!!!!!!!!

True story,First owner pulled of the stripes because he was upset with Don Yenko because he kept dumping the transmission.Raced it and then parked it. Dan told me he first noticed the 140 speedo and then ask more about the motor, Mr. Mandela then showed Dan a motor setting in the corner covered up.Dan was smart and new his stuff and bought the car and restored it and showed it in many shows and was in many magazines. When Dan sold the car it was for $125,000 to a gentleman I won't name but I have a list of all owners for the new buyer if sold. Dan has some video tapes of the car racing in Pennsylvania and I was visiting with him and he was going to make me copies of everything he had just before Christmas last year, when right after Christmas his son was killed in a auto accident. I visited with his wife and daughter and later Dan and put everything on hold. Dan lost a big part of his life that day.He is a great person and still wants to keep up with the whereabouts of the car.Brian Henderson knows Dan very well and they both speak very highly of each other.I am sure Brian would share his knowledge with anyone, since he is a true Supercar enthusiast.

Kevin, yes it is my car. I know that it is worth alot more and will probably bring it.And yes the ZL-1 is the automatic. They bought it last January at the Russo-Steele Auction in Scottsdale.

Stefano, congradulations on the purchase of one of the nicest 69 Yenko Camaro's in existance today, and probably one of the most documented also. Not to mention the 81 Yenko Turbo Z, Stage II, that is coming along with it to help keep it warm up there in the cold.I will put new anti freeze in both before the hauler picks them up. Sorry, it was 75 here this weekend. BUT it is now freezing here also. Hope Chris worked out the deal on the ZL-1 I was helping put together.I am sure you will have this car at next years' reunion. And guess what? It is not a Douglas, but a real Cannonsburg car-both of them!!!!

The Bodner car has great info, especially the tapes. Were you able to get them converted to VHS? When that car was owned by a guy here in my area, Brian and I met at his house and got to see the doc's (especially that cool large orange brochure 'Meet the Mean Ones'), but not the film footage.

I can't wait. I have been looking at pictures of that Yenko in the books and magazines for years. When I think of a Yenko Camaro, that is the one which first pops into my mind.

I met Dan Bodner at Super Chevy in Maple Grove in 1988 and that is the same thing he told me. I had my Hugger Orange (automatic) Yenko Camaro there also. I may have some photos of that event...if the new owner wants some copies...let me know.

Thanks for the info. Since I often refer to Hooper's Book, I always see those cool 4 camaros ,the two on the front and the two on the back. There are quite a few members Camaros in that book.

I was looking over all the documentation Maurice provided with the Yenko and found it interesting that the original owner traded in a 1968 Dodge Corronet 500 2dr Hardtop 383 Hipo 4 bbl on the Yenko. What a step up??

Also, it has the most worn out Warranty/Booklet with protecto plate that I have ever seen on an original low miles car. The Yenko Service department must have run it through the imprint machine quite a few times. [img]/ubbthreads/images/icons/grin.gif[/img]

Well Stefano, the cars left Broken Arrow, Oklahoma tonight around 7:00. They are in an enclosed trailer and yes, I checked the anti freeze and both go below zero. They have both been living in a heated and air conditioned building along with their cousins.Gee, I already miss them!!!! Enjoy them and have fun!!!
