nice looking car but whats wrong with these pics
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eb...tem=1872695034
interesting trim tag and like someone else opointed out nice job on the window sticker. Gould have been one that was sold blank on E-bay a few weeks back Would also like to know how a 30+ year old battery kept its charge all these years |
Re: nice looking car but whats wrong with these pics
No zone or dealer number on the window sticker,I believe the VIN should be a ink stamp as well.

Re: nice looking car but whats wrong with these pics
I only looked at a few pics, but noticed that the valve covers are all scratched up, and the exhaust manifolds have been painted / coated. And why would anyone get rid of 300-mile original tires? That paint job is really glassy, for factory paint..

Re: nice looking car but whats wrong with these pics
Cool car,
Certainly looks nice for 33 year old factory Single stage Silver. I can't see the Fisher body number on the reproduction Window sticker is it there? |
Re: nice looking car but whats wrong with these pics
Anybody close enough to Buford,GA to take a look......At this point I have to believe that this is a restored car......Very interested in quality of workmanship and accuracy of parts.....and everyones opinions of relative value in the 69 SS L-48 marketplace....Thanks, Chuck S/Seattle

Re: nice looking car but whats wrong with these pics
I agree the last 6 of the VIN should be INK Stamped not typed. Also didnt see the Fisher Body number on the Window sticker. What really caught my eyes was the 03D X11D80 Trim Tag

Re: nice looking car but whats wrong with these pics
check the seller's ebay feedback before you bid. say, is there one or two o's in crook?

Re: nice looking car but whats wrong with these pics
I hate it when they use weasel language like that. We're not sure if it's original or restored? We see no indication that is's a restored car? If they can't spot the evidence of restoration on the car, they are blind or stupid. As far as I know, GM did not use cast blast spray paint when they built these cars.

Re: nice looking car but whats wrong with these pics
I live about 15 miles away. I'll take a look at it this weekend if I get a chance. Clearly the window sticker is a poor repo and the odometer was reset after restoration.

copolocater, I was fixing to suggest that COPO go there as he is the closest. We are about 2-1/2 hrs away from there...............RatPack.......................

Re: nice looking car but whats wrong with these pics
The window sticker is missing the body number and dealer zone and codes, right? And isn't 03D too early for the D80 on the trim tag? Any bets on where this one will end up?

Re: nice looking car but whats wrong with these pics
Mine is the 3rd nicest and it is available for only 49k. Since these cars are now worth 50k, they must qualify as Supercars.

Re: nice looking car but whats wrong with these pics
Wow, that's a pretty high price for a car with a lot of questions to be answered. I'm not saying it isn't a nice car, but is sure seems questionable. When did the D80 first show up on trim tags? I thought May was the earliest known trim tag with a D80 on it.
|
Re: nice looking car but whats wrong with these pics
The earliest "D80" on a trim tag that I am aware of is 05D. This was confirmed in a discussed on this site in the past. Certainly raises some red flags.

Re: nice looking car but whats wrong with these pics
"Even the battery is new and the one that came with the car in 1969."
Jeff, Given the fact that the ad wording sounds like it was written by a Washington DC political spin doctor, I would guess they really mean it is a new repo battery of the same type that originally came with the car. I've heard of people having new guts put inside an original case, but doubt that's the situation here. |
Re: nice looking car but whats wrong with these pics
Either way it sold for $50,100 i wonder if the dealer bid and won it and now will try to move it in a different arena
