Deuce waterpump
The waterpump on my car has a smooth top and has three lines of numbers:GM15,3853892,L189. The new GM pumps appear to have ribs across the top. Is my pump correct for the car?Is there a rebuild kit or service available? Or should I just get a rebuilt pump for $50 and forget it? Thanks!

Re: Deuce waterpump
Check your casting # again. I show 3853692 69-71 small block V-8. Get a rebuilt. They weigh less, have the correct look, are readily available from "real" parts stores and should cost about 25.00 including core.

Re: Deuce waterpump
Hi Bob;
Recheck the part number, I think it should end in ...692. The date appears correct, late '69. The later style H2O pumps with the reinforcing ribs are incorrect. It is best to reuse your original pump, just send it out for a rebuild. I sent mine to a place in Ft. Salonga (sp?), NY, it cost a whopping $65 - well worth the money. There are various vendors that advertise in Hemmings that will rebuild your pump, I can check my latest issue tonight if you'd like. |
Re: Deuce waterpump
Thanks. The numbers were very hard to read and I appreciate your responses. Marlin, if you find the rebuilder's name or phone number, I'll give them a call. Thanks again.

Bob;
Sorry for the delay in getting you the Hemmings Ad: Fuel and water pump sales and rebuilding, fastest service, one year guarantee. Arthur Gould, 6 Dolores Lane, Fort Salonga, NY 11768. 631-754-5010. They did a nice job on my pump, quick turnaround as well. |

Re: Deuce waterpump
I got Mr. Gould to rebuild mine and I am happy with the results. It was $70 plus shipping.

Re: Deuce waterpump
Bob;
Good deal, I was very happy with mine as well. There's nothing better than re-using your original parts by getting them rebuilt. Same is true for your master cylinder and brake booster, those items are dated as well. I used Booster Dewey in the Pacific NW for the booster rebuild/replate, they looked very nice when I got them back. I rebuilt my m/c myself, it was surprisingly easy! |
Re: Deuce waterpump
I had sent the orange deuce waterpump to Gould as well for a rebuild. He called and said he located a crack on the backside, and he would repair it, and you would not see the repair as it was on the backside of the pump. I threw it away when I received it (it looked horrible), and he never billed me. Send a good one! He does back his work.
