Correct Shock Color - What's the Deal?
I noticed that in Jerry MacNeish's book he says that the correct color for the shocks is gray. If you go to his website and look at the photo of the restored front suspension, it looks like the shocks are blue. http://www.z28camaro.com/restosvcs.html I must say that out of all the "factory" shocks that I have seen, all were blue and not gray. If you are going to claim to be an "expert" you should get it right! I'm not so sure I agree with him on everything in his book. |
Re: Correct Shock Color - What's the Deal?
All GM factory Delco shocks were gray from 1965 on, before that they were black, I have seen some 1964 chevelle shocks that were also gray. "NOT BLUE"

Re: Correct Shock Color - What's the Deal?
Everyone I have seen has been gray.

Re: Correct Shock Color - What's the Deal?
I have 4 NOS shocks dated between 355 of 66 to 185 of 68..All Delco are very very close gray. I find Jerry to be very consistent and open minded, he states when things are different..i.e. 67 front calipers could be black or natural etc.

Re: Correct Shock Color - What's the Deal?
I'm not sure what "factory" shocks you have seen but Delco spiral shocks are grey. The picture tint is off and that is why it looks blue. Before you bash someone you should send him an e-mail with your question. Jerry does not know everything and he will tell you that's why there are a group of Concours judges. Jerry is a person who takes this hobby very serious. His early Z-28 book is in its third edition. He spends long hours doing research to update the books. I haven't seen anybody more dedicated or honest than him. It is hard to find people like that in this business. He will take the time to answer your questions and not charge you a dime. You should come to the Camaro Nationals at Carlisle and introduce yourself. Maybe he can clear up your other problems with his books.

Re: Correct Shock Color - What's the Deal?
Welcome aboard TealZ. Very good first post. Jerry does not know it all nor does anyone else, but he is more talented than most. I for one have never seen anything but a grey shock on factory 67-69 Camaros. If there are other colors, I for one have not seen it...BKH

Re: Correct Shock Color - What's the Deal?
The original shocks on my '69 Z/28 still have some of their gray paint on them.

Re: Correct Shock Color - What's the Deal?
I have talked to Jerry a few times and he seems very knowledgeable and very helpful, I have read his book on the COPOs a couple of times! I sure am not an expert, but I cannot find any discrepencies in the material he has written.

Re: Correct Shock Color - What's the Deal?
69L89396- I am color deficient (along with some other areas) and have a difficult time differentiating blue, green and grey (you may be too). Another possibility is your monitor color tint is out of alignment. Lastly there is no need to bash other enthusiasts.

Re: Correct Shock Color - What's the Deal?
Maybe I don't see color as some other people but if you look at the photo on the website, it looks "blue" to me. Maybe it's a blueish gray?
I'm not meaning to bash anyone here, just stating my option. I think alot of Jerry's information is good. |
Re: Correct Shock Color - What's the Deal?
Well, that's one way to become popular!

Re: Correct Shock Color - What's the Deal?
I refer to both of Jerry's books on a regular basis and I feel that they are some of the best in the business.

That is the right color and it looks blue to me. Maybe it's a blueish gray but it still is blue. https://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

Re: Correct Shock Color - What's the Deal?
Mystery solved, MacNeish is exonerated. If you use the flash on your digital camera, the shock looks blue. Otherwise, it's gray.
