Antenna mounting?

What was the logic of what cars had the antenna mounted on the front or the rear?

Re: Antenna mounting?

This is just a guess, but...does it have to do with AM or AM/FM? [Like, AM got antennae at rear, AM/FM got it on front?] Is this close guys?

or rear spoiler?

Re: Antenna mounting?

I know this is the case for Firebirds and is probably the same for Camaros but the rear mounting was an option with all radios, but for spoilered cars.

Re: Antenna mounting?

You could not order a spoiler car with rear antenna, for obvious reasons.

Re: Antenna mounting?

Rear mount antenna for 69 Chevelle was AM only. Some Yenko Chevelles came with rear mount antenna for an unexplained reason. I guess Don just liked they way they looked.

Re: Antenna mounting?

On the Camaro, standard AM antenna mount was the front. Rear was an option only with the AM, but not if you got the spoiler.
And AM/FM was only front mounted (and fixed height).

Re: Antenna mounting?

For COPO & Yenko the antenna was installed by the dealers (similar to Shelby)
or the antenna was installed at the factory.??

Re: Antenna mounting?

The factory rear antenna is on most of the Yenko Chevelles. Don tried to keep cost down so I don't know why he added rear antenna but it does look good.

Re: Antenna mounting?

In the '60s rear antennas were cool. In the earlier '60s dual rear antennas were really cool. Our car didn't come with a radio, so when I added one, I also added the rear antenna. Yes, I did keep the radio opening filler plate. It must be worth at least $2000.00 by now.

Re: Antenna mounting?

Keith you often mention about the 69 COPO Chevelle that you bought brand new back in 1969. Do you still have it? (I know that this is probably a stupid question cause I am sure you have probably mentioned it before but I may have not noticed!) If you still have it is it restored or in original condition? I love when you post vintage pics of it!

Just a remark
Stephane COPO Chevelle is a radio delete car too.

Just a tips to spot a Shelby KR ragtop sold new by
Sud Automobiles MontrŠal. This Shelby dealers intalled the rear antenna more on the rear than other dealers.

Re: Antenna mounting?

It is going through a long, slow, on again, off again restoration. Should be done in the next year or so. I'm glad we kept it. Couldn't afford to buy one at today's prices. We have pretty well everything we need to put the car back together. Just need the time.

Keith - are you saying it won't be ready for Niagara Falls in July?
