69 Camaro's Canonsburg yard pic?
Wasn't there a pic posted on here not too long ago showing the Canonsburg yard full of 69 Camaro's? If anyone has it, please post it on here or forward to me. Thanks

Re: 69 Camaro's Canonsburg yard pic?
I seen these cars in person 1969, I asked a salesman about them and he told me some had 427 engines in them, I really did not pay much attention at the time because I could not get insurance on one anyway! I think they set to the left of the dealership behind a chain link fence.

Re: 69 Camaro's Canonsburg yard pic?
That's a beautiful site.

Re: 69 Camaro's Canonsburg yard pic?
I believe that that picture was in the Musclecar Review article about Don Yenko shortly after his death.
|
Re: 69 Camaro's Canonsburg yard pic?
I love that picture. A field full of sleepers. Did all the Yenko's originally come from the factory with the rally wheels or did some have the dog dish caps?
|
Re: 69 Camaro's Canonsburg yard pic?
Neat picture. If you could only turn back the clock, I think we would all own a couple of those.
|
Re: 69 Camaro's Canonsburg yard pic?
I believe all the Yenko Camaros came with the COPO/9737 "Sports Car Conversion" which included the ralley wheels.

Re: 69 Camaro's Canonsburg yard pic?
Hey has anyone here ever noticed that the Hugger Orange car in the center of the picture has fender pinstriping? You can see it a little clearer on the Camaro Untold Secrets site copy of this picture. Bet that car is an X11 style trim car. Wonder if the pinstriping was removed before he added his decals and emblems?...................RatPack................ ..

Re: 69 Camaro's Canonsburg yard pic?
Rat_Pack,
Very interesting observation, part of the X-11 trim package was the double pinstripe painted on the fender and 1/4 pannel wheel well peaks. I have seen other pictures and original X-11 coded Camaro COPOs such as those from Berger and some of the other dealers that have all had the X-11 pin stripes. Since the Yenkos were to be striped could there have been a 'COPO" order pinstripe delete on the order sheets? Could it be that the ones which had the pinstripes were for Yenkos ordered that were not to have Yenko Stripes installed? |
Re: 69 Camaro's Canonsburg yard pic?
Ever since I saw this picture in MCR years ago I've wondered about some of the cars' colors in the picture. That vinyl top car has always appeared Garnet Red and it looks like there is a black car also. I know they may be orange and Fathom green but they look like a different hue from the other green and orange cars in the picture.

Re: 69 Camaro's Canonsburg yard pic?
I would think that the pin stripes were easily removed. I have never seen an X11 Yenko with both style striping. On the Harrell cars, if the stripe was in the way of the custom stripe that was applied, the factory stripe was buffed away. It would take almost nothing to remove the quickly applied factory pin striping...BKH

Re: 69 Camaro's Canonsburg yard pic?
bkhpah,
You may be 100% correct. I think that there may be more to it ,however. It just wouldn't follow that a dealer would create additional work for himself when it wouldn't be required. I have asked Jack Douglass this same question, as all his Direct COPO orders were X-11 coded. He remembers that his COPOs arrived without the X-11 pin stripes, but recalls somehow designating them to be pinstripe delete(per Don Yenko's order format). I would not agree that the pinstripes would be 'easily' removed by buffing them off. While an accomplished professional could wet sand them flat and finish them off with a buffer, your standard dealer 'prep' or 'get ready' personel, as they were commonly called would not be allowed near a new car with a buffer. Since these were all batched special orders (not built one at a time)it would make sense to me to have a pin stripe delete for Yenko Camaros. Is your original paint Yenko X-11 coded? |
Re: 69 Camaro's Canonsburg yard pic?
I am not so sure that car has pin stripeing on it. If you look at the other cars, they appear to have dust or something on the hoods and trunks. The dust may have settled on the fender in a way to make it look like striping but may be just the dust highlighting the edge and shows up in the picture. It also looks to be too wide to be a pin stripe.

Re: 69 Camaro's Canonsburg yard pic?
T Billigen,
I would say that due to the Silver Grill, Chevy Bowtie and Cowl Induction Hood that the Camaro is a COPO. I only have the picture from this site, so I can not determine if they are stripes or not. |
Re: 69 Camaro's Canonsburg yard pic?
Where is the picture originally from, as in what book or what magazine? If I knew, I could rescan the original.
|
Re: 69 Camaro's Canonsburg yard pic?
I think that line is a reflection from the sun and not a pinstripe, it seems the black car (first one in line) has a similar line and you can tell this is a reflection. The sun seems to be directly above the cars and could cause this illusion?
|
Re: 69 Camaro's Canonsburg yard pic?
If I remember correctly, not all the cars in this area were COPO cars, maybe this car with the pinstripes is not a COPO? The salesman I talked to said "some" of the cars were 427s. Since this was almost 33 years ago I may be wrong, but I think this was a general storage area for all Camaros.

Re: 69 Camaro's Canonsburg yard pic?
The picture in question is from Muscle Car Review, April '87. The pin stripes are clearly visible on the orange car and the other orange car (with black vinyl top)is also a style trim car. The Yenko order/stock numbers can be seen in the car windshields. With a clear reprint from the negative the cars could be identified. I think these are the March built cars with perhaps a few of the style trim 2D built cars. Who has the original photos?

Re: 69 Camaro's Canonsburg yard pic?
I think they are february and March cars. This would be the second order with the X-44 and X-11 cars. The one with the vinyl roof, hugger orange, looks similar to my car. Without an original picture it is hard to tell even the colors, the "black" may even be dark green?

Re: 69 Camaro's Canonsburg yard pic?
T Billigen,
While you were walking Yenko's lot 33 years ago, I was customizing my tricycle with high tech Crayola crayons https://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif |
Re: 69 Camaro's Canonsburg yard pic?
at least you were alive, i wasn't even born yet. i got a very late start...hence the username.

Re: 69 Camaro's Canonsburg yard pic?
Scroll back up and have a look at the picture again. I replaced it with a higher resolution and color-corrected scan from the April 87 Muscle Car Review where the picture appeared. There was a color cast in the original magazine reprint which I've compensated for as best as I could. The fender stripe and darker colors should be more distinct now.

Re: 69 Camaro's Canonsburg yard pic?
I just printed a copy of the new pic and you can clearly see the pinstriping on the orange hardtop. nice.
Jesus I feel like I'm standing right there looking at this fantastic picture..... Now if I could just decide on what color to choose.... hmmmm. |
Re: 69 Camaro's Canonsburg yard pic?
I know that it is supposed to be Green , but the first COPO sure looks Black while the fourth one in the same line looks dark Green.
I would pick the one with the Endura Bumper! I think? |
Re: 69 Camaro's Canonsburg yard pic?
While I was walking through Yenko, I was buying a new L-88 short block for my 68 camaro! "450.00", bet you would like to buy one for that price now!
|
Re: 69 Camaro's Canonsburg yard pic?
I have a performance magazine from '68 and there is an add in there for Motion Performance.
396-375's complete, starting @ $525! Sure I'll take a couple. lol. What happened to the L-88 you purchased?? |
Re: 69 Camaro's Canonsburg yard pic?
The engine is still with the car in Pa. When I bought the short block I failed to realize my 375 HP heads would not work on those 13 to 1 pistons so I called Yenko back up to enquire on the price of the open chambered heads and they told me it would be another 450.00! So I just took the pistons out and exchanged them for stock 425 HP pistons. Worked real well! Car turned mid 11s.
