RS/Z Survivor on ebay

A couple of interesting facts about the car listed on ebay as a survivor. The car was built 10B of 68. The description mentions original 302 DZ, what is omitted is the date code of 7/29 of 69, 9 Months after the cars build date. The trans is built 3 months after and the cowl hood must be a prototype. Survivor??? Just a heads up!

I hate this when it happens. I have been salivating over this car since it hit eBay. As usual, what the pictures are able to show look great, then, when checking it out in person, the facts are all too easily revealed. Did you check it out yourself, Pace? Do you know the history of it?

Re: RS/Z Survivor on ebay

I only checked it out because of the link so I now have a few questions.

1)Did VanNuys Z28s use X codes?
2)Didn't the early Z's have the 6x7 tacs?
3)Weren't early Rally wheels DF Coded?

I am not putting this Z down and I am not interested in e-mailing the owner just for info.
I am certain that there are enough Camaro/Z28 experts on this site to help me with my questioins.

Thanks in advance Guys.

The VIN as shown isn't correct. I believe that it should be 124379L507143.

We drove 1,000 miles with money and a trailer from Austin to Lubbock to purchase this car. When the three of us walked up we knew within 30 seconds we had been mislead.
By phone from Austin, the price was firm. He was still calling us on our cell phone when we were 30 miles out of town after leaving. The price had dropped over $5,000 at that point. We were not interested at any price. It drove like crud, also.

Re: RS/Z Survivor on ebay

So then either the vin or trim tag has been replaced or altered?

TimG 04-11-2002 08:07 PM

Re: RS/Z Survivor on ebay

Trim tag had only one rivet holding it to firewall. This may have been corrected. No X code on trim tag. He states it is trimed out as an X77

Re: RS/Z Survivor on ebay

Wouldn't an RS be an X-33 anyway? All RS cars are style trim cars...Where did he come up with X-77?

Re: RS/Z Survivor on ebay

Thanks TimG, I sped through the adv. and didn't notice the X77 used to describe the trim level on the Z28.
I am curious, as to why the trim tag would be tampered with in the first place on a "Survivor" car?
Were there any other solid docs. or ownership history to Document this Camaro?

Re: RS/Z Survivor on ebay

He says "X77 trim", not that it's an X77 or X33 car. It's an LA car so there are no X codes. To some people X33 means the extra chrome trim and X77 means the base model Z28. But if you know enough to refer to it as X77 or X33 trim then why is he playing dumb about knowing whether it's an original survivor or not.

Re: RS/Z Survivor on ebay

He had a portion of a build sheet that was about one inch by one inch. Nothing could be read. There was a picture of the car from the mid 70's, car in picture was a silver rally sport Z. This would make a good driver car. Chrome, body, paint and interior were average. That is not what we were led to believe. It was described as a 9 in all areas. Phoned us on the way out of town and said he would take $28,000, it was just not what what we wanted. The car had been repainted and had body work, interior was weathered, big crack console, switch added in dash. Front of doors were uneven and did not line up. Rear Camaro plate on trunk removed and filled in, headlights would not retract, door panels warped, big tear in headliner, replaced windshield, ect. We did not even bother to put the car on his lift.
He had another black 69 Z28 that was on ebay about four weeks ago, it was coded silver.
