Hugger1,
I lived about 2 miles from the fairgrounds 10 years ago. Skips was a great swap meet, in my opinion ,back then. I never had a problem finding what I needed at a reasonable price.

It has become very diluted and every year most venders are shut down by 2:00 pm.

I did pick up an LS-6 intake in great condition very cheap and a SW guage for a Shelby at a fair price. Plus ,I purchased a few old muscle car magazines that I needed.
So it still paid off.

I always enjoy the cars, Just get there early!

I will be at the show on Saturday, leaving Austin on Thursday. I hope that it is a good event, we drove to Houston, TX on Saturday for the Chevy Expo and had enough after about 20 minutes.

I've been notified that, as usual in the spring version, Gold Spinner(original) classes will be noticeably smaller than they were in fall. Custom classes will make up a larger percentage of the cars brought in.

Re: Chicago Chevy-Vette Fest

I went today I was supposed to bring my Chevelle but because I do not have a enclosed trailer the Chevelle did not make it there. There was mostly custom cars, The only car that stood out was Lopez's Nickey Camaro. It was brought up on this board that the car was not the real thing, but after talking to him and seeing all his original documents including original title and Nickey option agreements it has to be real. Other than that there was a nice 396 70 Chevelle. I was disapointed on what they had there. There was some real nice Vettes but I'm really not into them. The other thing was they didn't have a showcase this time. They said 25 cars did not show up. I hope this isn't the direction of the show in the future.

Re: Chicago Chevy-Vette Fest

Thousands of cars were sold at Nickey. That doesn't make them 427/435 horse transplants. There are things on the cars that Nickey did that this car has no signs of ever having done to it. Never say never, but, usually, the cars will speak for themselves. They don't need the owner to do all the talking for them.

Re: Chicago Chevy-Vette Fest

ssl78,
I am not saying that the car is not real, and would agree that it was sold from Nickey Chevrolet but the Documents you are referring to, are very easy to duplicate.
Just my opinion however.

No sign of any bowling trophies this year either.

Re: Chicago Chevy-Vette Fest

I am not saying that I am documenting it because I am no expert. The fact is it statrted off as a l-78 car he bought new at Nickey and for I think 400.00 had a phse 2 option added 427 tri power. He wanted to keep the SS hood and has owned the car all theese years, and has stated it was a Nickey conversion for as long as I could remember. Is it possible it isnt real? yes, but a little unlikely since he claimed it was a Nickey conv. when it was worth probably less than a Z/28 was. I really dont know I just think its cool he is the original owner of any muscle car for 35 years.

bkhpah 03-04-2002 01:02 AM

Re: Chicago Chevy-Vette Fest

Why do you think the car started life as an L/78. The trim tag does not show that it was. Also the "early years" pictures clearly show small V8 flags on the fenders. This is what I have seen...BKH

Re: Chicago Chevy-Vette Fest

I believe he stated he had the pro-tecto-plate and that is what it stated. I personally did not see it he didnt have it there.

Any comments on the two barrel carb. Motion SS 350 camaro present at the show? Car had Motion stickers and emblems all over-including "Mr. Motion" stickers placed on the top of the factory orange painted valve covers.

Re: Chicago Chevy-Vette Fest

I was at the show today and the car was sold. I was told the car was a 327 brought to motion to get reworked.

sixtiesmuscle 03-04-2002 02:20 AM

Re: Chicago Chevy-Vette Fest

What color was the car, and, who told you it was "reworked" by Motion?

ssl78 03-04-2002 02:39 AM

Re: Chicago Chevy-Vette Fest

Re: Chicago Chevy-Vette Fest

Rat Pack... Did not take the car seriously enough to even ask the owner about the price.

Color is consistant with your discription.

Re: Chicago Chevy-Vette Fest

It sold on Saturday for $20,000.00. The old owner sat with the car all day Sunday with a cover on it. I spoke with him, and he did take the cover off so I could look at the car. It was a VERY clean, straight car, from top to bottom!!! He sounded like he was sorry he sold it too cheap!

Was the car real?

Re: Chicago Chevy-Vette Fest

In regards to the blue 69 camaro....its not a motion car, its an 307 orginal camaro with 18,000 miles ..fiber obtics, speed warning, original drive train, black vinyl roof, standard 715 interior, console, very clean, very straight the original rally wheels will be replacing the cragers

Re: Chicago Chevy-Vette Fest

More additional info to share. I now understand that the car was for sale as a stock low mile 69 at the Canfield Ohio swap meet in the spring. The car was later spotted at the summer Columbus Ohio WWCA event with the Motion stickers on it.

Sounds like Tim Lappatta car. Maybe?..BKH

Re: Chicago Chevy-Vette Fest

I just got back to Austin from the artic cold of Chicago. The blue 69 had a sign that stated the Motion decals were added by the owner. It was a clean, low mile Camaro priced at $22,000. I looked at it on Saturday for a while. I figured it and the 70 Z28 in front of it would probably sell. They were the only two respectable cars for sale at the show.
The 66 maroon coupe with C4 suspension was very impressive. This was a very well done combination of the vintage look of a mid-year with the driveline, brakes and suspension of a C4 Corvette. That was my favorite car of the show.

Re: Chicago Chevy-Vette Fest

BKH, that was him. He removed the rally wheels back in July and had the Goodyears mounted on a new set of Cragar SS wheels and it really helped the car. The cowl hood was added within the past couple of months or so and I have not seen it with it. Someone now owns a really nice low mileage Camaro....................RatPack............

We reworked the car last summer. It was no Motion car for sure...BKH

Re: Chicago Chevy-Vette Fest

I also talked with the guy who had the blue 70 Z28, in front of the blue 69 for sale. It sounded cheap, he wanted $15,500.00 and it looked good. I later found out it has a NON-MATCHING ENGINE AND POSSIBLY INCORRECT TRANS. Otherwise it was a nice car with potential. For those who attended, what did you think of that IMMACULATE 1970 orange Z28 with black stripes, with the crate motor? The owner said the car was originally a red RS, but he built the car according to what he wanted. It was sure done correctly, although not original by any means. Great looking car though!!!
