How many of you are here from the Buick GSCA board?

Well, since the Buick bulletin board that I used to frequent daily has been down, I have noticed a slight increase in membership here, and some of the usernames are very familiar!

I know Pete, Mike, Casey, Jim, and Ron have moved over here temporarily to get there "fix" for the day, but what are the others from the GSCA board doing? Does anyone know if/when the GSCA board will be back up and running? Pretty bad timing, as Casey's article in last month's MCR probably led a bunch of users over to the board, but it has been down, so they may never know about the discussion over there!

Re: How many of you are here from the Buick GSCA board?

Come on Rob. You know there all not going to admit to it. I see Casey has finally after months of being registered under a different name has changed it to his real name. We better be good because he has another five articles or so to do for MCR on web sites. We don't want to give him a bad impression. I think he will be impressed. That thread on the 68 Yenko's being COPO's or not is some of the most interesting reading I've read in a long time.

Yep - Pete busted me. I was originally on here as Deuce sYc. I changed the email address on that profile so that I could barrage you all with my intellect and wit as *Casey*.

PS - The reason I was Deuce sYc was because of my absolute fasination with those cars .... I WILL own one someday .............

No need to think I've got a bad impression - - I think that this site has some astounding info, that you can't get from many places ......

Hey Pete - how are you and Jimmy doing on that LT-1 ?? Ready to run an Olds yet ???? Tell Jimmy to take that Liberty junk outta there, and row the gears ..... https://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

Been a Buick fan since high school.Any of you Buick folks from the midwest? I sold a 65 Riviera, shell beige, custom tan interior, tilt, cruise, rear def,p/w,p/vw,NO AIR,teak wheel, dual quad car that I still have POP for.I have always wondered if this car survived.I think it may have since I sold it in 83.It was called an A-8 package car as it was a NON-GS...those were some of the nicest valve covers on that nailhead.I should dig up the VIN and run a check on it. Any Riviera registries out there that anyone knows of ?

Re: How many of you are here from the Buick GSCA board?

I keep getting an all white page on the Buick Pure Stock Drag board so why not start one up here? It seems like there is more people into the pure Stock drags over here and on the Buick site then on the Moparts board. It seems like there is not as many Mopar guys running there cars all stock as they want to go faster and thats great as I like that also but I enjoy talking to many different people with all brands about these races and there cars. So it looks like no one knows when the Buick board will be back up so I say who needs it when we can talk about it here or on the Moparts board or somewhere. As long as we are all gearheads and it seems to me that most of us get along real well no matter what brand we like and we all enjoy these Muscle Cars so maybe we should start one here or somewhere? Just and idea! Ron

Well, it would just take me abut 5 seconds to add a new forum, so if you all are interested, just let me know, and I will give us a new place to hang out.

It's pretty cool to see that some of you were here before the GSCA board went bad! Makes think for sure this site must be doing something right! I have only recently ran across the Moparts.com board, which has some real good info on Mopars, but there after reading some threads over there, I still have 1 question: Mike, do you like headers https://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif?

It was crazy how mad those guys got when I said I didn't like headers. Oh well I guess thosse guys can't understand the "stock" thing. There just mad cuz they can't make their cars run even with headers!

Re: How many of you are here from the Buick GSCA board?

Well here's what I do know......

It's screwed up. Does that help, our is that a given ???

Apparently there was something that went wrong, and then they had to move stuff over to another server .... blah, blah, blah. Even though the Bulletin Board is accessible, there is still no posting that can happen ??? Why - I don't know. Dave Greene says that he is *on* Bennett to get it back up, but I really don't know much more than that.

Nope Pete - no new car ... just my 'ole POS from years past. But this year, I figured out which plug wires go to which cylinder. They make these pesky Oldsmobiles so dang hard to figure out ...........

How's that Salminila Chevy anyhoo ? Kinda has a *ring* to it, doesn't it ..... https://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/laugh.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/laugh.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

Re: How many of you are here from the Buick GSCA board?

Yeah I know some of them guys get pretty upset over at Moparts about headers and like I say I like cars with manifolds or with headers whatever the owner likes works for me! I like manifolds for the Pure Stock drags (Course I have to thats all they allow) and I like the sound of headers on a closed exh system with a little cam rump rump in there but I wish Mopar had put a better manifold on the big block A-Bodys! So what do you guys think should we wait for the Buick site to get back up or start a Pure stock site over here as Rob says its real easy! Ron

Re: How many of you are here from the Buick GSCA board?

I know alot of Chevy guys also like headers, What are your thoughts on cars with headers and trick intakes and all the go fast goodies that only run 13's and 14's?? We won't even mention the 15 second cars with speed equiptment and big blocks? I say why bother with headers if your not running at least real low 13's!!In reality you should be able to run a 12sec. ET with a big block and headers even with a Ford!

Ron Nies 05-06-2001 09:25 PM

Re: How many of you are here from the Buick GSCA board?

Mike I totally agree with that! I figure that my 383 Dart bone stock should run in the 13,s or I am missing on the tune-up. I see to many cars way over cammed and so on that run worse then a well setup car that is all stock! So I figured that my car should run at least high 12,s with headers and a little convertor and the 484 cam and when it went 12.49 on the second run and I drove it 40 miles to the track and never touched a thing I figured I had the jetting and tune pretty close and I left well enough alone. But any bigblock muscle car should most likely be able to get in the 13,s with someone taking the time to work with what they got. I see alot of guys have a car restored and just take it to the track and just run it and have no idea where anything is set and I think to myself man that car could be a 1/2 to a second quicker with the proper setup! You can tell at the Pure stock drags who has just come to play and who really works there car over and I am sure some guys go a little farther then the rules let you but thats a whole new subjet! Ron

Re: How many of you are here from the Buick GSCA board?

I do believe that SS/AA Cuda driven by Harry Holton that ran 8.68 is a little more then stock and I think it has headers?Just kidding but them cars were flying as that was the first 8.60,s run by a SS/AA car and Bobby D,s Camaro was the first official 9 second run by a Stocker as he went 9.997 today an Joe Aluise went 10.01 in his 63 Ply yesterday! Man thats fast even for NHRA stockers and superstockers! So thats one for the Chevy guys as I say hats off to Bobby D and his 9 second Camaro stocker and Harry Holton for the first 8.60,s in a SS/AA superstocker! Ron

Belair62,
Was that Riv a doctor's car out of Chicago?
If so, I looked at it several years ago in the Detroit area (Taylor or Dbn Hghts, I think). Needed some body work and paint, but had been cared for most of its life and was still complete, including the dual quads. The guy was into Buicks and had several. Think he wanted $2500 for the Riv, probably 8-10 years ago.

Well, if you "Pure Stock Drag" guys are interested in a forum here, then let me know, or you can just use the regular forum. Either way, we are happy to have you guys here. Maybe you guys can help keep us honest, and help us to see that their other brands besides GM...right? Anyway, makes no difference to me. In fact, I mentioned to Dan about 1 1/2 years ago that the PSMCDR site needed a forum... https://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

Kurt S.It may have been. I got it from the owner of an old Arco gas station. 65 Rivs had a tag on the console.I remember the name like it was yesterday. It Read"Custom Built For Don McDermott" It also had a real old set of 3 Airguide gauges mounted on the console....Tach, Vacuum and oil/amps/water.They were about 3" gages. These were installed at the dealer ! I am sure if the car exists they will still be on it.

Rob; I think you better talk to Dan before you set up a Pure Stock forum, after all, it is his party. Also in all fairness to Dave Greene and his bunch, they worked hard to have a great BB. Just because there having some technical difficulties, I don't think all the members should or would be totally jumping ship. I personally watched both and even sneak into the Moparts section every now and then (only when I'm feeling reckless.) https://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif I think a wait and see attitude is not a bad idea right now.

I must say that MOPARTS is one of the premier Mopar sites out there. If you guys feel *reckless* like Pete, and wanna hear about the Pentastar bunch, I'd recommend that site highly.

I agree with Pete. Any interest in anything to do with the PSMCDR, etc. should be run by Dan.

Mike Wowk 05-08-2001 12:19 PM

Re: How many of you are here from the Buick GSCA board?

Now we know how Pete gets his Shivvys to run so good! I think the PSMCDR site would be the best place for it, but does Dan want to do it? How much is involved in setting up one of these things? Is it just a matter of buying software? Bob Bodens' son is the one who does their site(thats what I was told anyhow). I'm sure the Buick board will be up soon also. But then again I wonder if the Buick club really wants a bunch of strangers cruising their site?? So much for club secrets.

Chevy454 05-08-2001 01:59 PM

Re: How many of you are here from the Buick GSCA board?

I agree 100% guys. Thats why I haven't done anything yet. The only way I would have made a move is if the Buick board had NOT been brought back up (which it will be according to Dave G.), or if Dan/Bob had asked me to do something.

Like Mike said, I feel that Dan/Bob's site is the natural place for a message board where the Pure Stock guys can hang out. For us newbies to the event, the PSMCDR web site is one of the first places we head to learn about the event. But, the Buick guys should be thanked for giving us a place to hang out, as they have taken a lot of heat, yet still provided a place for us to hang out.

I mentioned something to Dan about a year or so ago about a message board, and he told me that Bob's son ran the PSMCDR site, so I left it at that. I didn't want to seem like a pain in the a**, so I had to do some searching until I found where most of brands hang out. Let's see...I found the Buicks, Mopars, and Studes...so, where are the Ford and Chevy guys hanging out? Maybe a simple link from Dan/Bob's site to the PMSCDR forum on the Buick board would work?

Here is where the Studebaker guys generally hang out: http://groups.google.com/groups?oi=djq&as_q=studebaker This is the archive for there newsgroup (I am a member of the newsgroup also). Do a search on "yenko", and enjoy the reading https://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif. I have a bunch of the threads regarding our car (known as the "loser Yenko" to some on that newsgroup) printed off on a piece of paper that I am using for "inspiration".

I would LOVE a rematch, but of a "certified" Stude versus our "certified" Yenko. I haven't really said anything to the Stude guys about any of there comments, but the letter kind of "got my attention". Oh well...we'll see if our rebuild will lower our ET any... https://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/wink.gif

Re: How many of you are here from the Buick GSCA board?

So, Pete...Stude does not equal Stud?! I bet you found some "interesting" stuff when you searched for Stud! There isn't a whole lot that doesn't go on over there that isn't Stude related, but it is good for a change of pace.

Mike:

I have a couple of friends with Cummins tow rigs...would mind divulging how much the upgrades set you back? Did Jim Haas (Buick528) hook you up with the mods?

Casey:

There are several threads concerning the Pure Stock Drags, mainly telling about what cars the Stude ran against. The archive @ Google is a good place to search for any topics, and you can also search a TON of other news groups for any topics. I ran across a bunch of newsgroups I now read by way of the Stude page (which used to be Deja.com).

As far as the musclecar chat room goes I think it would be nice if it were on neutral ground(PSMCDR). This is not to say the Buick club have not been gracious hosts. Mike its funny you say that as this very weekend I went to a car show and a friend brought out his 70 Torino GT with a 351 Cleveland and Shaker hood and the car looked good! When I said this is a great car for the PSD races my Mopar buddies said there he goes again! There just isnt alot of Mopar people on Moparts into the stock drags and thats ok as I like em all but I know I cant afford to compete with the Pro Street guys but I think I could run a Pure stock car without going broke or my wife leaving me and I like the challenge of seeing how fast I can get one to go as it reminds me of growing up and seeing them driving on the streets when they were new!And I just like stock looking muscle cars that run good!
