68 4-door Biscayne L72 on eBay

Real?? If so, oh my goodness!

Could you get full gauges in a 4-door full size Chevy in 68 ?

3915084 on the transmission part number tag is a number that I have not seen on any published Muncie lists. Skimpy ad text does not say whether it is an M20 or an M21. Axle stamp indicates 3.73 posi rear, so if both are original then whichever ratio it is it is the version with the internal speedo drive gear for a 3.55-4.88 rear.

I have seen 3915085 which is a 68 M21 (not sure which internal speedo gear it has - for 3.55-4.88, or for 3.07-3.31).

I think that compass on the windshield is worth a few bucks too.

Selling dealer was in Kansas, IL?

scuncio 01-30-2026 01:58 AM

I threw a bid on it…way cool

Nothing different about that equipment from a 2 door Biscayne, so sure any of it was interchangeable. Was it available in '68 ? I wouldn't doubt it, if the dealer knew the correct boxes to check off.
Someone needs to get Chad D to look at it and respond. I'll send the link the Derek to forward to him.

Kansas, IL is about an hour SE of Champaign, IL.

Looks like the dealership decal is "Bough" Chevrolet?

Tach even has the correct red line for an L72. If this is real, this is really cool.

BCreekDave 01-30-2026 03:11 PM

Is that air cleaner correct? Thought it would be a dual snorkle.

Too Many Projects 01-30-2026 03:39 PM

Snorkel air cleaners that came on most anything with a 4 barrel carb in the 60's got tossed early for an open element cleaner.

RALLY 01-30-2026 05:59 PM

This is a rare rare find if its legit. Wow. Will be watching this closely for sure.

jeffschevelle 01-30-2026 08:55 PM

I'm not too knowledgeable about 68's, or big cars in general for that matter. But I believe an open element air cleaner is correct for a big car L72 in 68. I am almost positive it was in 69.

I found a 68 full size options availability list, and it indicates full gauges were available in any V8 car, regardless of trim level or body style.

Wish Chevelles had been that way in 66-67! You could get a tach in any V8, but could only get full instruments in a 2-door hardtop or convertible or Custom ElCamino.

I think it is Gough. Here's a matchbook: https://www.ebay.com/itm/177341452447

Cool car!! Open air cleaner is correct for that engine in '68.

Pro Stock John 01-30-2026 09:32 PM

That's killer and tuxedo black to boot.

Bill Pritchard 01-30-2026 11:52 PM

Hard to imagine someone cloning a L72 Biscayne using a 4 door sedan body.

Charley Lillard 01-31-2026 02:03 AM

He ended the auction..

cheveslakr 01-31-2026 02:14 AM

I was waiting for that.......spoke to the seller at length last night. The car is going back east. It was sold early on outside the auction. I have no room, but would have upped the bid to get this one.
