Very nice car, the paperwork is amazing with all the overseas correspondence.

Yes. The ad says, "sidepipes can be removed for originality" but I don't see any reference to where the stock exhaust is. I assume its been stored and kept with the car but I don't see that in the ad.

Added pipes to a car like that?

The front fenders need to be cut and it appears as though there is glass work in the rear of the car to accommodate the correct side pipe filler panel. It's not irreversible, but an absolute sin for such an original and important car. Odds are it will always be detectable.

Will it hit 7 figures??
Impressive to say the least

I would like to ask Steve [RIP] about this one.
He chased these IIRC
67's for sure. Remember him showing me a 68 and?

It was so much better without the pipes.

I remember seeing this car at the first Bloomington Gold show that I attended back in 1985. It was in the special collection and at the time it had the added factory side exhaust so the damage was probably done back then. That said, it's a very nice car.

----I had Tom's L-88 in my shop for a couple of days till he could get it picked up. I don't remember sidepipes. That would have been around 2006ish. I'm also sure Tom would have never added them....Bill S

with 4:56 gears... This thing must have been like a cat shot off an aircraft carrier

Bill, it had them when Paul Noble had it at BG back in 1985. He removed them no later than 1991. I have an old Vette magazine article showcasing his collection in 1991 and it had the stock exhaust back in place.

Did they keep changing the rear panel depending on the pipes were on or off ?

----It's not that easy. Not like a C2! Rear lower bodywork was always needed.......Bill S

luzl78 12-03-2025 12:07 AM

I know. That’s why I asked how many times the rear valence was bodyworked?

I saw this car in person at Bloomington Gold meet in Indy the year of an L88 celebration 2018. Did not have side pipes at that time.

I agree on the thoughts concerning adding the side exhaust, but still what a rare and great example of a 69 Corvette.
