The streak continues. 67 L79 Corvette Coupe
I gave a teaser about this car already. I bought this particular 67 from Tim G about 60 days ago. Tim and I had already talked about this car previously, but he had no real intentions to sell. All of a sudden on a Sunday afternoon in August, I got the call from Tim as had bought another 67 (which he has already shared) and this one was for sale. Thankfully, I was on the top of Tim's call list and the deal was made.
California delivered L79 4 speed coupe. Born with drivetrain with an unhit body. Great docs, original leather interior (except carpets),and a beautiful frame. I'll fill in the details and what I have been doing since it came in a bit later when I have some more time. https://i.imgur.com/WMR31dUh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/y5Kuzidh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/APiH1Mih.jpg https://i.imgur.com/VCpy3vvh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/7dAhTIEh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/oM6iHhoh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/thrisoJh.jpg |
Spectacular car Tim S.! Look forward to you doing your thing and learning more about the beautiful 67...

Ouch, like seeing an old girlfriend and you realize how beautiful she was.

As said, another beautiful car, Tim. You keep getting these cars with that gorgeous Blue interior. Gotta be the best color inside those cars I've seen. |
Awesome!!!!
|
Just WOW man. I need to come drink whatever it is you are drinking. You are on a roll!!!!
One of my favorite color combos. Also like silver with blue interior. |
Tim, we both have white/blue interior coupes from Bill Jacobs! Just 46 years apart.LOL:beers:

The first item in order, I felt I could get the car to run better. While it ran good, the engine seemed nervous. I did some testing of the A.I.R. components, and found one of the check valves and the mixture control solenoid were not quite up to snuff. Added to that, these cars always respond well to a fresh set of wires.
Bill Hodel was awesome to deal with not only for parts, but also for technical information. https://i.imgur.com/5mKzJoQh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/WK2WKKzh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/OWv8sWyh.jpg Tim had Phil redo the carb when he bought the car a couple of years ago. Tim bought the car out of a long term slumber, so he had a punch list on the car. In addition to the carb, he had Fred Ballard rebuild the original 40433 fuel pump, and one of his local friends rebuilt the headlight motors, clock, and radio. When I got the car from Tim, I elected to dive into the carb, as it was leaking down. Often times on the 4160 series carbs, my experience has been the metering plates need to be snugged after some heat cycles. This is the original smog specific Holley 3814. $$$$$$$ when you can find one.... https://i.imgur.com/ZWFTIzOh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/emclt44h.jpg Nice and dry overnight now https://i.imgur.com/po2ag1oh.jpg |
While I was waiting for mechanical parts, I took the opportunity to lay a light buff on the car. The car is an older Bloomington Gold as well as an NCRS Chapter, Regional, and National Top Flight car. I suspect years of car covers, dusters, and wipe downs had left their marks. The jambs all look to be original paint. I was very happy with the result nonetheless.
The next step......well you guys know the drill https://i.imgur.com/bl1jbydh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/f8YMTAIh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/zxq9mjAh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/zxVi4evh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/CD8GC7Ah.jpg The key / lock cylinder were a bit fussy. The assembly line 67 lock cylinder is a unique beast. Different from NOS, different from 66, and detectable in an operations check. So I sent the ignition switch, lock cylinder, and keys down to a mutual friend of Tim and I, Steve Walker. Steve's retirement business is strictly GM keys and locks. Steve is a WEALTH of knowledge and just a great guy. If any of you have a need for keys to be cut, locks to be serviced, or anything related, send me a PM for Steve's contact info. He has a good inventory of original key blanks, and his product cuts the mustard in the strictest of judging scenarios. The problem with this car only proved to be a wore out ignition key. https://i.imgur.com/zDGz0Lzh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/54zrcgTh.jpg While the seats were out, a deep cleaning and conditioning were in order. These are lovely original leather seats. https://i.imgur.com/3xiaeyth.jpg |
Tim and Tim,
I’ve been very fond of this Corvette since I first saw photos of it when Mr. Tim G. had it. Great color combination and the blue leather takes it to another level. I have an affection for the California A.I.R. cars of any brand. These Smog cars were considered a horse power robber and also made for a busy engine bay. For this reason many early owners of these cars removed and discarded the pumps, brackets, valves and hoses to the trash. To have a correctly intact factory A.I.R system today is paramount. :beers: |
If I remember correctly, the smog pump was dated St Patrick's day, 1967. The Black Plates are the ones put on the car in 1967. Tim really picked up where I left off. If the car has a smog pump, it will work properly on a car he owns. Me, well, I just pulled the belt and drove the car.

Tim's NEED to completely disassemble and clean/refresh every instrument panel that comes thru his shop makes ALL the difference in appearance of his cars. When he's done, it doesn't look dated or tired. It looks like it just came from the dealer. Absolutely incredible what he does to every Corvette he touches that very few others would even consider tackling. I would bet there are collectors who would be willing to have their cars, or at least an intact instrument panel, if they could figure out how to remove it, shipped to him just for this service...

Me, back in the day (early 80’s) on one of my 1967 GTO’s with A.I.R I removed the internals (vanes, rotor, etc.) of the pump so I could leave the belt on to keep it esthetically correct. I was cheating the atmosphere, sorry  |

My yellow '67 is a beautiful car in all ways aside from the gauge cluster. Someday I'll pull it (or try) to clean it up.

The refurbished radio came in yesterday, so I took the opportunity the change out the speaker as well. And then, I found this when I pulled the speaker down. I don't feel the speaker has been out of this car, so I am going to write this off to an assembly line worker who was either disgruntled, or had a warped sense of humor

It's a comb filter......sorry couldn't resist.

That needs to stay in an envelope with note in the glove box for documentation. |

Hey Bill,
Tim, pardon the interruption, sorry, but it looks like Whites. |

The colors are vivid around the shop. The timing was right with the light to shoot this pic earlier today

A few more. I'm really happy how the interior turned out:smile:

We have come to expect this level of detail from you now, Tim and this one is yet another example of your commitment to excellence. The blue inside white has triggered an interest in possibly painting my '70 Chevelle in the original white but with medium blue interior, which is available from Legendary....:hmmm:
|
It all looks amazing Tim. Your pics rock-as well!
|
That's a really beautiful car, the interior makes it IMO.
Those cars evolved greatly from 63-67, and I will always think 67 is the most refined and sophisticated Corvette ever. |
|
love the car - nice job- - this has always been on my bucket list -
|
Congrats Tim!
|
You did a great job on this one Tim. Enjoyed the latest video and your giggle. Bet you wish you could keep them all!
|
What a great video, Tim. It sounds great through the GM N11 exhaust.
