Mark Stielow May Have Just Built the Most Refined and Capable First-Gen Camaro to Date
The father of the Pro Touring movement continues to build cutting-edge resto-modded Camaros. This is his 19th build and most refined yet understated. Charley Lillard has owned several of Mark's creations. Link to article: https://www.hotrod.com/features/1969...w-matt-gurjack |

Here's what it looked like when I found it almost twenty years ago...

Of course!!
When I first found it, I joined and posted on Camaros.net, but I don't remember my login there and can't find the article with a simple search; but it's a great story! It was a fun find and digging through it's history was exciting... it was fully documented. I was the second owner and the first to title it for the street. It's certainly come full circle, that's for sure. Anthony |
|
Anthony, did you ever chat with Mark directly? He’s a good guy.
|
Hey Tony. He never called or texted me after you asked.
|
That was going to be my loaner car on the Good-Guys tour if we didn't get my 67 done in time.
|
Not a bad Courtesy car!
Pun very much intended. |
I like that car, nice loaner car.
|
Anthony do you have any pics of all the paperwork ?
|
Wow, time warp, I remember reading about that find and being as jealous as the rest. I even offered to come take the "old" engine out of your way, but you never replied... LOL.
So did clill end up with it then, or who ? |
No. It is still Stielow's.
|
Hah Mitch! I didn't know you then... Sorry!
|
It's changed hands at least five times that I know of since I sold it. Mark is now at least owner number 8 that I know of.
Hey Charley, I'm sure I do, but it's been about six computers since then... I must say, I'm disappointed that none (that I'm aware of) of those historical items that were saved with the car for so long by the original owner have been kept with the car... but not surprised. I should've let Chip turn it into the speedster that he told me he envisioned for it way back when... But, I wouldn't. Gah. |
Stielow has all the docs.
|
^ awesome!
|
Pretty cool.
I know I'm not 25 again, and it might be my eyes, but is the grill SS emblem upside down? |
very nice. I see the 'patina' thing hasn't run it's course though...
|
^ maybe, but the patina it wore when I owned it was very much earned and genuine as leather.
It seems to have just been preserved; unlike some cars, this is not created patina, but real... I can attest to that. But, yes, I get it; there was a time when it felt played out, for sure... |
Hey Charley, Mark does indeed have most of the paperwork for the car. Yay!
It was ordered as an L34 car - SS hood - car was ordered too early for the cowl hood, Vic told me he bought one of the first available OTC super scoop hoods when he heard about them. 4.10 rear of course. Lemans Blue originally. Here's Mark's full build thread for anyone interested: https://stielowengineering.com/mark-...ing-track-car/ And here's when Mike Kaiser flipped it: https://www.1969camaro.com/vehicles/...evrolet-camaro It was still nearly intact then from when I sold it; with Vic's helmet and the selling dealer plate frame and the license plates that DMV sent me that I had painted black and yellow - not quite A69C0P0 but close! Oh, and if you look closely; it never had it's born with engine, even when delivered as a new car! Fun to look at all of these photos again. |
