$330K 69 RS Z28 at Barrett-Jackson
Interested to learn the "Rest of The Story" on the Fathom Green 69 Z28
There was also a Red 69 Z that sold for $220K ??? plus commission ........... |
Same guy had the desert sand LS6, a blue 69 Z (lot 1088.1 165,000) and a red 69 Z (lot 1085.1 203,500) . All had Jerrys authentication. Trunk spatter wrong and reproduction boosters on all of them. Nice paint and the LS6 glowed in the sun.

$300K plus the juice for 69 Z/28? I'd love to hear more as well

If I’m not mistaken, the seller at B-J is the same guy that got something north of $200k for a ‘65 Chevelle convertible (with a color change) a few years ago. |
When you get a car fluffed to that level and put it in front of deep pockets who are itching for another toy while drinking & boasting amongst themselves, it's the perfect storm to pull huge dough. Of course timing over the block plays a big part of this and depends who you are as a seller, and what you bring to BJ stakeholders.
Curious to know if JM produces page 2/3 of his reports to go with the cars and details all the things that are wrong with a resto? Somehow I doubt that there would be additional pages to discredit incorrect items of a car, and that it's just the CERTIFICATE that Barrett is paying him for? Curious to know how that is posted onsite? Full on report...or just the CERT posted publicly? :dunno: |
Maybe the Fathon green one sold for more than the Lemans Blue and Garnet Red ones because it had the 302 emblems on the cowl hood?
I must say the body and paint work on all 3 cars was beautifully done but can't speak on what other parts (other than missing emblems) was right or wrong on the cars. |
Those cars would not even be eligible for Camaro Legends judging in Chicago or Morgantown.
|
Anyone know the reserve price on this green Z/28?
We all know that the big auction houses can & will "shill bid" up to the reserve price (they say so, in writing). I'm just wondering if there really were two (or more) bidders driving this one into the stratosphere |

How does a "Live" bidder present at Scottsdale know if he's bidding against a REAL
Internet bidder, or BJ Shill ??????? I will never comprehend who most of these deep pocket bidders are & where/how they created so much discretionary income !!!!!!!!! |
Car looks great but as many a Canadian might say "Blow at high dough". To coin a Gord Downie tune. $430,000. CDN plus import fees to Canada.
|
I know Bill didn't want to see those prices lol.
For the small things wrong with most cars there it doesn't seem to matter much anymore, most was easy to correct. The cars are following the prices of everything else these days. It was a good time and David and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks Bill! |
I expected there would be some nice documentation, at very least the PoP. How is the axle known to 'matching numbers original' otherwise :confused2:

I’m with you 110% on the money. I’d bet many are sick come Monday morning when they fly home and realize just what happened. |
I have "discarded" assy line 1970 Camaro Mufflers that dont have STENCILED part numbers....Ive never seen this before .....Is that what a "$300K Fluffer" gets ????
|
IMO, BJ now concentrates on attracting the wealthiest people, that love to see themselves on TV, instead of the cars. How many Restomod Corvettes/Broncos/Blazers can you look at.? Yes they sprinkle in a Hemi Cuda or Superbird every now and then, but the real cars seem to have gone to Mecum. I think what those people paid for those 69 Z's was a perfect example. Fuel them up and let Superwealthy guy #1 have a contest with Superwealthy guy #2 in the next seat, seems that is what the enjoy most, not the pursuit of the car

Can someone post a link to the Fathom green car in the OP's post #1 at the B-J auction? I've looked and can't find it. Are the pictures in post 10 the only photos? Thanks.

Lot #1096.1 on BJ'site

There were 5 cars that appeared to be owned by the same seller. They all had the same windshield lettering. I found it interesting all 5 had muffler stencils, the extra stickers for something, lots of paint dabs, and stuff I have never seen before. Also, the X-Ram cars sold for much less. Dunno.

I honestly don't care if mufflers have stenciled part numbers or not. If ya don't like it I can give you a rag and some lacquer thinner and take care of that in about 3 seconds :) Hey Bill, I'll put a stamp on my muffler if ya want. Does that up the price? Lol |
Curiosity got the best of me so I looked up the number on the GMWIKI. Looks like it is for the driveshaft. I do like the car though. Reminds me of a deceased friends car back in the 80's. His was non-RS but with an Endura bumper. Black Deluxe gut. Wish I knew where it went.

Way cool!:headbang: |
Here's some more pics for amusement. I'm not knocking the builds/restorations. The paint and details in general are excellent. Some issues noted was pitting on the subframe and control arms weren't properly repaired, cowl tag and VIN tags were hard to read, but overall all three Zs and the LS6 were nice clean cars in my opinion. They should not be construed as factory correct restorations nor Legends grade cars. Made-up tags, PNs, dabs, graffiti, etc. I'm really not sure what to call them - nice custom restorations?
Only concern is that others will replicate all these dabs, tags, and graffiti and think its correct, which will generate arguments and challenges later. It is interesting that the Fathom Green RS Z went for nearly 2X the Garnet Red and LeMans Blue Zs. The seller definitely knew his customer base and built the cars accordingly. https://hosting.photobucket.com/aa50...370&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/aa50...370&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/aa50...370&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/aa50...370&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/aa50...370&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/aa50...370&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/aa50...370&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/aa50...370&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/aa50...370&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/aa50...370&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/aa50...370&fit=bounds https://hosting.photobucket.com/aa50...370&fit=bounds |
