What a sad thing. He was a great man. He spent a lot of time with me when I brought the 507. He approached me while I was talking with someone and Kelly said he “humbly waited his turn” and didn’t barge in.
His first words with me were, “Wow. You actually built it like you said you were going to!” I told him I was building this when they first sent the red one through auction a few years ago. Attachment 275446 Attachment 275447 We discussed my build, and he said , “You know I sell cars, so is it for sale?” And I quickly replied, “Since you sell cars, what should it sell for?” He laughed and said when done, easily $500k if not more considering you’ll never find another. Flattering. I told him IF I were to ever sell, it would probably only go to a museum or something like that and the offer would have to be significantly life enhancing. He was intrigued by the entire build and loved the research I had done. A pilot as well, we had some great conversation. Man, that’s so sad and that was amazingly quick after disagnosed. I hope he didn’t suffer. RIP! Cheers Dave |

John had a car at Bloomington Gold last year. I had much respect for him and his car knowledge.
|
I met him once at the Harrisburg, Pa Mecum forever ago. He chatted up me and my buddy and was genuinely interested in what cars we had, because he asked. When I told him what I had, he was genuinely surprised and quizzed me for details. For a car who’s seen em all, it was a a very cool 15 minutes of his valuable time, a handshake, and a great experience. Gonna miss that voice of knowledge.

John was a genuinely nice man, I will miss seeing him at Bloomington Gold and MCACN.

Prayers Sent.
I will miss his voice on the Broadcasts. God Speed Kind Sir. |
He didn't know he was sick until last month. Very sad.

Good dude. And, as Jim Wangers would say "That guy knows cars"! Would sometimes have lunch with John and Christine on occasions he was in town - had Smoke House across from the WB lot most recently - a studio Musso, of sorts - which John also likes. Will miss those chats. Here’s to “brief illness” meaning painless as possible.
John had nice things to say about Jim as well, btw ...! |
Very Weird listening to the Mecum Broadcast yesterday with out him !
