Borescope camera recommendations
I am looking to purchase a handheld borescope that does not connect to my cell phone but rather is an all in one with the handheld unit. I need one I can manipulate the end camera (though not manditory) and it also has a side camera. Color is a plus but the most important item is that it can take a photo of what you are viewing and download it onto a removable card. Does anyone have any suggestions based on units they have purchased? I have looked at several, just looking for people that own then and what their thoughts are. TIA

Inquiring minds would like to know.

I bought a Telsong last year and really like it.

Chris White had one similar to this at MCACN this year and really liked it. Rick, I think you are friends with Chris on FB ? Ask him which one he got. It looked similar to the linked tool, but it was a better known manufacturer. |

I can't tell you which one to get, but I can tell you to avoid the Innova ones at Harbor Freight. I tried two of the damn things and neither one worked, right out of the box with brand new batteries.

I have a snapon with a 5.5mm tip that works very well, it's even able to take and transfer pics. Unfortunately they are 700+ now

I think I have a SnapOn one somewhere I never use.

Because technology is developing so quickly, my guess is that a $100 to $150 "Amazon" (or whatever) system today will out perform a five or six year old high end brand name, or tool truck brand.

I use a Dewalt DCT410S1 inspection camera that is color as well is photo and video capability that saves on an SD card but has since been discontinued. I might add that it is not a borescope and has limited capabilities due to the limited flexibility of the camera cable.

Eagerly awaiting Rick's and Tim's reviews.
I was looking at the unit Rick just bought. Just didn't want to pull the trigger til I heard from real users I know I can trust. |
Totally understand Lynn. The one I have been using for years gets the job done but the clarity is not what I want and the fact that I cannot take photos is a major issue such as distributor stampings. Once I have used it on a few cars I will report back. I just hope it comes in time for my Canada inspection as I could use it on all three there.

I, too, am interested to hear the review. I bought one ~15 years ago, which is now totally obsolete (and MIA, like half my tools since I moved). At the time, though, it was immensely useful for inspecting C2 birdcages in a gentlemanly way.
A couple years ago Milwaukee sent us their latest offering for us to build a display, and I was surprised it wasn't much better that the dinosaur I had. |
Seems you should be able to get it in less than 2 weeks, Rick. I put one in my cart to see when I would get it and it doesn't state a date, just 3-5 days AFTER it ships. Don't know if buying the $2 prime for a week would reduce the wait or not. If it's coming directly from China, yeah, it could take a while.

Said it was in stock but in stock where? I got an estimated delivery date of 1/7 thru 1/17. I need it by the 8th. Oh well as again it was my procrastination.

Couldn't stand to wait any longer. We already received one favorable review on the one Tim and Rick bought (from Carnut4life).
Checked on Amazon, and they guarantee delivery tomorrow. Must be at least one in the OKC "fulfillment center" (what we used to call a warehouse). Sherri and I are going to check out a special car next weekend, and I didn't want to take a chance of not having one. Even if I don't like it, I am in great company with Rick and Tim. Just like having my name mentioned in the same sentences with guys like that. And there are a LOT of guys like that on this site. I am humbled by the company I keep on this site. |

Been there; done that.

Not a problem. Amazon has free returns, so i will wait to unbox it. Worst case scenario, you hate it and I send it back.

Well I gotta say.......I'm impressed.
Here is a pic of the trans stamp on the 67 Corvette I bought last week, and then a pic through the camera at standard resolution as well as 1.5x magnification. Keep in mind, the pics of the camera are pictures of a screen. In person, the resolution is much better. In short, I like it. https://i.imgur.com/Vt5hKFjh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/a4NbGFJh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/yvnW5YLh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/6voue6Uh.jpg Here is the engine pad on my injected 65 Corvette........ https://i.imgur.com/0mMkiaUh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/tThKwakh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Xr67fK2h.jpg Well worth the $110 I spent on it!!! |
Good to know. I can open the package now!!!!
A new toy. Perfect timing for me. Thanks for all who gave input. |
Glad you like it Tim. Yours looks a bit different than mine but the results are very similar. Once you get use to having one of these they're indispensable, I've used mine for dozens of things in the garage and around the house.

Mine arrived today. Used it twenty minutes after opening the box. :beers:

Rick, I took advantage of a Prime 30 day free trial to order several items, then canceled after everything was shipped... Still didn't ship for several days. Once it shipped was a couple days. |
