'68 Nova L78 on Ebay
1 Attachment(s)
This car popped up on Ebay after a no sale bid of 45k at Mecum Indy Fall Special 2024 but sold as a "bid goes on" sale of 68.2k.
Looks clean and real numbers matching '68 L78 Novas don't come up often (read: next to never) although I'm more than certain some of them still exist. What do people think? https://www.ebay.com/itm/27672425300...3Avlp_homepage |
Nice car. I am not a Nova expert although I've had a few big block Camaros and Impalas. Other than the usual factory big block identifiers like correct radiators, rear ends (12 bolts ) block, heads, manifolds, carb etc. , I imagine documentation is required, especially the build sheet and warranty book. There are just so many phony cars out there these days it's getting tough to tell.

Unless I missed them not a single picture of the important drivetrain bits.....

A little more sleuthing and more pictures are on the dealer's website:

First off, what a beautiful car…..and definitely rare assuming it’s real.
Just a quick glance, I notice it doesn’t have the “Nova” emblem on the rear quarter panel….exclusive to the 1968 Nova as the 1969 on up emblem is located on the front fender. I purchased a ‘68 Nova back in 1999. When it arrived at the house that was one of the first things I noticed……thinking to myself, who the hell drills holes in the rear quarter for emblems….? Not knowing that that’s correct from the factory…..lol Also, this site says it sold for $62,000 with a date of October 5th, 2024…..not sure if that’s correct or not…..? Kurt |
At mecum it was sold as a L34 396 and now it’s a L78

Mecum site itself doesnt state L34 or L78 - it just leaves it at 396 for all of us to infer - but car is presented the same as it is today as far as I can tell. And yes it sold there in the "bid goes on" at 68,200 as actual bidding on the block stalled at 45k.

In all fairness - Kurt's post isnt from Mecum - its classic.com which is a website that is a scraper of data and links to sites like Mecum, Sotheby's etc. for content. - titles/descriptions classic.com are not provided by Mecum (or even the seller themselves) . Most descriptions on that site are "original & highly original" which is just a field that is filled in by (unknown to me how its done tbh).

What do you think about the f41 susp. leaf spring plates, would those be original to the car.

F41 Plates...

Nice catch...those are a late 1970 and up item for the Nova with the funky sway bar. They do not belong on a 1968 model... wilma |

Not for nothing, but that trim tag looks incredibly crisp.

The trans appears to be stamped over, not a double stamp. I have lots of 70 BB stamps but no 68's to compare the engine stamp to.
